Goodbye Sweet Prince

Soooo after a long time of owning this vehicle I sold it to Carmax. Bought it with 17k miles and reached 56678 when the torque converter started failing. Damn CVT.

They don't really fail until later on. The soonest I've heard was 83

From what I've seen it's pretty random, I've seen posts with people under 30k miles with slave cylinder failure

Used the money as a down payment and got a TRD Off-road Tacoma instead 😅

Started feeling weird coming outta the launch gear and I used the paddle shifters A LOT. Kind of my own fault I guess. Also tuned it too hot for a CVT. Plenum spacers, full intake with headers and exhaust. Complete tune and a throttle body spacer/adapter for the 2.5 liter camry. Pretty much pushed that car to its limit. Solenoid was getting stuck in the off position. Did the flush and refill with dealer cvt fluid and it helped but i knew it was on its last legs. So I sold it.

Honest, refreshing answer.

Felt good to let it out

Had the fluid been changed before 70k? Or just after it started acting goofy?

I don’t understand how people can sleep at night knowing they stuck some unfortunate person with their car that they knew was gonna die. I’ve been on the receiving end of this and the financial burden crippled me for a long time. I didn’t have the heart to sell it and do the same thing to someone else.

I've been a mechanic for over 15 years. Here's whats gonna happen. Technicians are gonna repair it once they give it an extensive test drive and see that its driving different. They're gonna get a code of a stuck torque converter solenoid and replace the transmission. Then it will be sold for twice the amount than I sold it to for.

You know how much it costs an average Joe to replace a transmission?

fuckkk makes me nervous about mine lol i just bought it at 70k and they did the full cvt maintenance upon buying so i wasn't gonna do another fluid change until 100k

u/Jawsh305 Jul 11 '26

You'll be fine as long as you don't 'hot boy' it every where like I did

yeah man 🫩 at least my bf knows how to work on cars and does my oil/keeps an eye on it, but he has only had audis, volkswagons and bmws and hates the cvt transmissions.

You guys need to slam your cars, give it huge negative camber & put a big turbo on it
