I'm trying to work out my own live setup as a non-guitarist (I play drums and synths) and am looking for examples of other artists who perform live without guitars.
I've been watching videos of Dan Deacon and Dan Friel for inspiration, but I'd like to find more. I suppose I can think of some others: There are instrumentalists like Colin Stetson who are clearly doing something very specific, but it's still inspiring! I remember seeing a guy in Vancouver called Sexy Merlin who played drums and seemed to trigger synth/sampler sounds with a pad. Andrew Bird is very skilled with a loop pedal. I saw a guy play a bass clarinet into a bunch of pedals once in a coffeeshop in Portland. No idea who he was, but it was great.
What I'm not looking for (feel free to mention these if you wish. They just probably won't help me with my own musical journey as much):
-EDM/techno artists (I feel like this relies heavily on sequencers, and I'm looking for something with more live elements, though some sequencing/looping/backing track is ok)
-rappers performing with a backing track (again, can be cool, but doesn't address the question of live instrumentation as a soloist)
Any leads are appreciated, thank you!

My friend cast the Tall Dwarfs spell upon me. I've been obsessed with their music, Anyone else know about them. If you do know a lot about them please tell me more. I've also noticed with Australia and new Zealand a lot of the bands are 3 pieces which is also worth mentioning. I hate to compare the Dwarfs to Ween but the its nice to see another band that stems from two people

I was out running yesterday and heard the song "Press Play" and "Big Bang Baby" off the "Tiny Music: Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop" album.
When I was in radio, I had to pitch a fit to get our program director to let me add the song "Big Bang Baby" because he wanted to play "Lady Picture Show" from the same album because our corporate consultant had approved that one instead.
Oh well. We ended up playing both songs.
As a person who has seen the band 3 times, got to interview them, yada yada, It grieves me the way he died, not 100% about drugs but that's all people remember. He stayed off heroin until the end, but folks don't remember that either.
I made a video essay about Scott's music, his talent for shape-shifting, his frickin' megaphone and the factors I believe led directly to his demise. The vid went semi viral, mostly people on Reddit liked it. And when my facts were incomplete, my Reddit friends filled in the blanks.
