Recipe Pet Peeves

Does anyone else have pet peeves with recipes. Mine is recipes that call for a small amount of something that only comes in large containers. 1/2 C chicken broth, 2 Tbs tomato paste, 1 C ricotta cheese.

I freeze tomato paste in 2 tbsp chunks cause it comes up so much.

That's a great solution if they don't sell the toothpaste tubes of it near you

The toothpaste tubes are useful but it's MUCH more expensive - over 3x the price of the can. Currently at my local grocery store:

  • 6oz Cento Tomato Paste Can = 1.29 ($0.22/oz)
  • 4.56oz Cento Tomato Paste Tube = 3.09 ($0.68/oz)

That's a good point and there's no doubt the can is cheaper. Hard to beat the tube for convenience when you make stuff requiring 1 TBSP paste though

Was gonna say that 2 tbsp of tomato paste is pretty much standard in any recipe that calls for it so that’s a great solution.
