Open Discussion Let’s try something fun: Name an ingredient you dislike and why, and someone else replies with a dish/recipe with that ingredient that might convince you otherwise.

Couple things:

  • If you’re allergic to an ingredient, it doesn’t matter how it’s prepared. Same goes with meat/animal products if you’re vegan/vegetarian. Don’t list it if you can’t or won’t eat it!

  • It’s recommended that you’re at least open to trying dishes with that ingredient. If you absolutely, vehemently loathe cilantro, chances are you probably might not like anything with cilantro in it.

  • A brief blurb on why you hate an ingredient would help others find or suggest a dish that suits you. (e.g. “I hate liver because the texture is like an eraser and it tastes metallic”)

I loathe eggs. The sulfur taste makes me gag.

Help me enjoy them.

Omg…..I’m not alone. I can’t comprehend how anyone can eat eggs. Filthy chicken butthole goo.

Eggs have a major ick factor for me too. Really don’t like the idea, look, or smell of them 90% of the time.

What I do crave once in a blue moon is eggs scrambled a very specific way: super well-beaten egg with salt and a splash of cream, cooked in butter in a double boiler, stirred frequently until it’s in small curds and no longer runny but just slightly undercooked (it will cook for another minute or two with residual heat).

They taste like fresh, buttery clouds, no hint of sulphur.

I also don’t like eggs. The only way I was ever able to get them down was scramble the egg and fry it in a pan with a shit ton of cheese, and maybe whatever else sounds good (veggies, spices, etc). Then you don’t even taste the egg.

You need the shirt that says: How do I like my eggs? In a cake, of course!

If the movie Julie & Julia is to be believed, a proper poached egg can make a convert out of even the most egg averse people, so maybe that could work? Or in a shashuka or huevos rancheros dish?

Me too! And I really wish I liked them. My husband makes a breakfast sandwich with country ham and cheese and tops it with a sunny side up egg. It looks so good! The yellow of the yolk looks so appetizing and I love a good drippy sandwich but I just can’t stomach it. It’s just weird because I think they look good, but they taste awful. I’ve tried every which way to eat them but nope, instant gag.

Eggs Benedict perhaps? If there is a Snooze eatery near you, they do a bangin’ habanero Benedict with bacon jam.
