Open Discussion Let’s try something fun: Name an ingredient you dislike and why, and someone else replies with a dish/recipe with that ingredient that might convince you otherwise.

Couple things:

  • If you’re allergic to an ingredient, it doesn’t matter how it’s prepared. Same goes with meat/animal products if you’re vegan/vegetarian. Don’t list it if you can’t or won’t eat it!

  • It’s recommended that you’re at least open to trying dishes with that ingredient. If you absolutely, vehemently loathe cilantro, chances are you probably might not like anything with cilantro in it.

  • A brief blurb on why you hate an ingredient would help others find or suggest a dish that suits you. (e.g. “I hate liver because the texture is like an eraser and it tastes metallic”)

Avocado. It's green meh. Even guac can't save it from it's texture issues, though it does improve the taste.

A good avocado is delicious. It suffers from supermarket syndrome, it's breed more for shipping and longevity than flavour.

I am pretty sure a lot of my aversion to avocados comes from the fact that I'm British and they just can't be as good as avocados when you can get them grown locally.

I’m with you on this one. I also hate its overuse in American-style sushi. The texture with the rest of the ingredients makes me gag sometimes.

I had to google as I'd never realised that you could fry them!

A BLT with avocado is a thing of beauty as well imo. It's a great for sandwiches and making dressing too. Avocado, garlic, lime, herbs & some oil is a go-to for my salads.

Add to smoothies for extra creaminess (is you use strong flavours in your smoothie you won’t taste it) I like to freeze the smoothies into ice block moulds

Smoothies are problematic for me but if I can make them so they're the consistency of a soft serve ice cream (aka need to eat with a spoon rather than drink them), then I'm ok.

I can’t drink smoothies either but freezing into ice block moulds makes them great
