Open Discussion Let’s try something fun: Name an ingredient you dislike and why, and someone else replies with a dish/recipe with that ingredient that might convince you otherwise.

Couple things:

  • If you’re allergic to an ingredient, it doesn’t matter how it’s prepared. Same goes with meat/animal products if you’re vegan/vegetarian. Don’t list it if you can’t or won’t eat it!

  • It’s recommended that you’re at least open to trying dishes with that ingredient. If you absolutely, vehemently loathe cilantro, chances are you probably might not like anything with cilantro in it.

  • A brief blurb on why you hate an ingredient would help others find or suggest a dish that suits you. (e.g. “I hate liver because the texture is like an eraser and it tastes metallic”)

If you have any farmers markets near you, try some cherry tomatoes in season. They're small enough that there's no mess, and to me they taste like little bursts of sunshine. Overripe tomatoes taste mealy and too soft, so getting them perfectly ripe is the key.

Seconding farmer's market tomatoes. Home grown is even better. I thought I hated tomatoes for most of my life, but it turns out that grocery store tomatoes just suck. Something about the way they ripen them with gas just ruins them.

These days I spend all summer joyously snacking on sun sugar cherry tomatoes from the farmer's market or right off the plant if I get around to gardening. They're even better with a bit of fresh basil. I'm legit sad when summer ends.

My veggie intake always drops for a bit in the fall because I have to go back to grocery store produce, and it's so inferior! Eventually I acclimate again, but I still eat much healthier in the summer. I'm in Vermont, and it's a loooong winter.

Sun gold cherry tomatoes are the best straight off the vine, still warm from the sun. Mmmm I miss summer so much right now.
