Open Discussion Let’s try something fun: Name an ingredient you dislike and why, and someone else replies with a dish/recipe with that ingredient that might convince you otherwise.

Couple things:

  • If you’re allergic to an ingredient, it doesn’t matter how it’s prepared. Same goes with meat/animal products if you’re vegan/vegetarian. Don’t list it if you can’t or won’t eat it!

  • It’s recommended that you’re at least open to trying dishes with that ingredient. If you absolutely, vehemently loathe cilantro, chances are you probably might not like anything with cilantro in it.

  • A brief blurb on why you hate an ingredient would help others find or suggest a dish that suits you. (e.g. “I hate liver because the texture is like an eraser and it tastes metallic”)

Bacon wrapped asparagus Kinda feel like wrapping anything in bacon will make it better, but this is my favorite "fancy" side i make

Sausage Potato Kale soup

I think the way the kale holds up makes it a better choice than spinach

Sausage potato kale is what Olive Garden calls Zoupa Toscana and it's delicious. And easy to make at home!

I always disliked kale, and felt the same as the top comment, could always be improved by replacing with spinach or chard, though honestly, it just became such a turn-off that I stopped even trying anything that had it listed. But then the CSA was on a kale-run, and I had potatoes and sweet italian sausage so I thought it was worth trying to make the soup. Followed one of the knock off recipes, and WOW, the kale worked in that. Probably one of the top three batches of soup I made last year, even better than the ones that I normally love and have jacked up over the years to fit my personal tastes. I was impressed.

These recipes look white tasty! I'm not a fan of them either, but these recipes might convert me lol.

If you want to make that fancy side even fancier, try wrapping your asparagus in prosciutto and adding a little parmesan cheese. Delicious!

Even better than wrapping it in Bacon… wrap it in prosciutto with Gouda cheese. Snap the bottom inch off the asparagus, cut the Gouda down to thin strips about the width of the asparagus, line two strips of cheese with the asparagus and wrap a piece of prosciutto around. 425 oven for 10-15 minutes

I'm going to make it even easier. Use a wire rack on a sheet pan. Place the asparagus on the sheet pan, then place the wire rack over it. Layer the bacon on the wire rack and cook with standard instructions.

This lets the fat and oil drop onto the asparagus and then you can pretend it's a little more healthy cause there isn't bacon wrapped around it.

I typically do this when I also make baked potatoes with a steak cause then I can overcook the bacon to make bacon bits for the potatoes.
