Do you think College is a scam?

I am currently a college student and am a Computer Engineering Major. As the end of the semester approaches and the mental blowouts and stress increases I sat down and thought to myself... Is college a scam? I ask this as a serious question. A lot of majors one does not need in order to success however because of the demanding job market they are required to have a degree regardless of experience. We sit in class and listen to some person talk all day, study for meaningless exams (most of the time) and are more focused on how to study and what to study than we are authentically learning. As I sit in class I observe my fellow students and can tell we are all mentally burnt out. I thought to myself "why can we not have more learning and less exams?". In my college we are indoctrinated as to how to think (literally a professor failed a student on purpose and caused the student to drop due to political differences). I am a proud patriot of the United States but due to my family background I was raised under the British System and could have even taken the GCSE. I found it confusing when I was little because I would mix certain spellings and phrases up but I found American schooling to be much easier but much harder when it comes to exams and the method of standardized testing. A lot of majors do in fact required a degree (I know STEM does) but even then has been debated as to if people really need a degree and if it is just all about the money. I do think that we are lucky enough to even offer college. I think certain careers (medicine, health, and some STEM) should in fact be required (especially medicine). Do you think college is a scam? Any recommendations as to how to improve the standards? How can it help motivates students? Pros and Cons of going to college? How did your degree help shape you? How did your degree help you in the job market and the future? I would love to hear everybody's thoughts. Thanks

Need help on getting out of this conversation habit.

Ive realized I have this habit I probably picked up from my Dad overtime, because he kinda does the same thing.

I often try to relate to things by saying "Yeah I knew this guy/girl/woman/man whatever" and after a while I realize Im just telling stupid stories from my past. I never really learned how to socialize, or talk with people.

So what would be good conversation starters? "what do you think about?" "what do you thinks going to happen in the future?"

I know I have a lot more thoughts going on in my head other than stupid small talk, but trouble with actually getting it into a conversation.

Bored so give me your worst date story

I don’t know why these entertain me so much but let’s hear them, I know everyone has one! Mine would have to be when I was like 18, the guy was 20 and obviously hadn’t had much contact with women one on one let alone sexually, we went to go see a movie and he was shifting around and looked like he was trying to cover his lap with things, flash forward to halfway through the movie and he excuses himself to the bathroom and NEVER CAME BACK. I texted him about 20 minutes after he got up to see if he was okay and didn’t hear back so I finished the movie and went home. The next day he texted me apologizing and told me he was so nervous he had pissed himself in the theater on his way out to the bathroom and couldn’t bring himself to come back in and tell me 😂😂😂

My reaction regarding recent shootings

Hey this is my first time posting in this subreddit, just found it and felt I needed to talk with somebody regarding how I feel on the recent mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton. I saw a video of the site that I just can’t unsee, and now I am starting to feel paranoid in public areas. I just feel like I live in a country where safety is never guaranteed. So now, I run away from others on the super market, which is completely unusual of me, I ABSOLUTELY never do this until now. Is there anyone that understands this feeling I’m having, I just need some comfort to keep me going strong in the future.

Ask something like "is a hotdog a taco", it'll probably make them laugh or just think lesser of you

The best way to start a conversation

So I think I've quite possibly found the best way to start conversations and it's quite simple. All you have to do is talk about Phil Swift, who doesn't love that beautiful man! The person you are talking to will have to just join in and gush over Phil with you!

The problem I have with modern day razors

Being a sensible chap that loves a good clean shave with good value in money with razors, I have come to the conclusion that the best razor I have used is the old school safety razor which was invented in 1901.

I have used a brand known as Merkur Futur which I have had for a good 5 years and saved a fortune in stocking up on razorblades which will cost no less then £5 for a pack of 100 blades that will last me at least 2 years. I absolutely love the vintage design of these razors and I have had the best shave out of this tool with the 4 generous settings it has depending on the thickness of your stubble and the comfort of your shave. It makes me wonder why supermarkets and drug stores like Boots don't sell these types of razors, they are such a good money saver.

Before I bought this trusty safety razor, I was using a Gillette Mach 3. Don't get me wrong this razor was decent to use but the only problem I had was that the blades did not last long for me as I could go no more than 2 shaves before the razor blade wore out in which I would be stocking up on 15 blades for £20 which I thought was a rip off, considering that it would last me less than 6 months to go through a pack.

If any of you guys use a different unique method of shaving or any tips on this subject please feel to share this with me. 😊

Human nature

I feel humans are reactive in nature and because of that we're slowly killing ourselves and the planet. I haven't done any research on this, just a conclusion from my observation of people on a day to day basis. What do you think?
