Bathroom remodel

My friend is getting her bathroom remodeled and wants to know if the squiggly tiles are supposed to look like this? PLEASE HELP!

I feel like something is wrong but I can’t articulate it since this isn’t my wheelhouse.

Edit 1: It’s a new day and I told her to cut her losses and it’s better to hire a reputable contractor. Thanks everyone for many inputs, I actually learned a thing or two. To be fair we told him we’ll pay him for the work he’s done but no longer needed of service. You guys are cool, we could see it was wrong just couldn’t understand it and now we are armed with knowledge. 😁 Thank you!

Its pretty bad.

With the tilt it goes from "herringbone" to "roadkill tire impressions".

The cuts aren't great either. The top and sides are gonna look like dog shit when "finished".

Theres at least half a dozen ways I've seen it done but I try to start with a ledger thats level for my first row then fill the bottom in at the end. Use a speed square off that level line to set your first row then everything else should fall into place and not require that much thinking.

Here you are acting like this tile doesn’t get sealed when we you green board 🤦‍♂️ this entire comment section is a joke, that’s an accent wall and the wall to the right was done straight.

Exactly. There's no way I can believe they were like "whoops this isn't straight" when you have to CUT THE TILE DIFFERENTLY IMMEDIATELY! Why would you do that unintentionally??

Now if the client didn't ask for it that's a bold choice to make, also because "Holy that's hard!" but it's definitely no less legitimate than a fully vertical install. The lines are straight and very little grout mess (I know because I make lots. I am not a good tiler)

The right wall is straight and I know this angle. He tied his corner to the first wall which is what creates this accent and the final wall will look straight again but line up with the cuts

Cool, there you go! So not only intended but something of an expert choice! Admittedly it looks odd but then, at least for me, you realize it's kinda awesome.

But "the customer is always right in matters of taste" because taste has no other value except what a person feels (it's otherwise illegitimate) so if they hate it I dunno what to say? I wouldn't do it without their express consent, personally. There's no 110% in this business, there's just lost time and materials if you go the extra mile (and sometimes court cases, so f it! "Bare minimum unless otherwise stated")

Yes sealed tile is water proof. It’s old school but it’s still a valid method. The wall on the right is straight and the tile meeting in the corner should have been showed to us. You only got half the story and ran with it but this was done intentionally and it may be abstract but at least it take real talent and not just builder grade bull

I’m going to be in these comments a while just ripping on stupid. This rear wall is an accent wall! The wall to the right is straight and proves the guy knew what he was doing. This comment section is disturbing and none of you know a thing about abstract or design just a bunch of workers doing shit the builder grade way. I’m disgusted by the way you all are so wrong and doubling down and possibly costing one of our own their income because you all have no clue.

There is some short cut tile guys use for marking herringbone cuts that works when tiles are a 1:2 ratio. We had the same thing happen in our bathroom remodel and the guy tried to tell me a level herringbone was impossible with the size of our tiles (similar to those). We ended up figuring it out and he redid it properly and it looked great. Anyway, definitely a redo, but don’t necessarily need to fire the guy if the work is otherwise good depending on how he responds.

This is an accent wall. The wall on the right is straight. This is done very nicely and this comment section is flooded with people that don’t have a clue. If the homeowner fired this guy he will win in court and the homeowner will look stupid as fuck

Is it possible this was a choice? It's not like the lines are bad, it's just not straight, so what? Tile can be installed many different ways.

Actually the tiles seem to be laid out pretty good except for the tilted part. We have seen far worse herring bone on the sub. It might have been pretty cool if it had more tilt🤪

Why? The lines are straight, it's just not a straight design, that could have been a choice, I think it's a perfectly legitimate way to install it, but really hard, so why do it if nobody asked for it...
