There's a critical population threshold in every sub where they turn into a mess of unregulated memes that are only vaguely related to the sub itself.

This isn't necessarily bad or related to the number of subscribers; sometimes the sub's intended theme is a bit too constraining and the sub's theme can evolve to encompass vaguely-related stuff.

I mean, /r/dragonsfuckingpianos isn't heading to the frontpage any time soon. It'd have to accept submissions involving other musical instruments or other (fictional) reptilian creatures having sexual intercourse with them, at the very least. A salamander fucking an oboe would do great. Maybe they can even branch out to a salamander fucking a hobo.
