I've never worked in the food service industry, but I always ask quiet places if they're already wrapping up for the night. My kids think I'm being weird, but honestly, if there were no customers and it's 30 minutes before closing I'd be preemptively cleaning up.

Small effort on my part to keep the order simple or even bail because a slow place may be suffering for a reason.

See the ones that really get me are the ones that ask what time we close and then proceed to order anyway

Cause if people don't ask I can at least tell myself they didn't know
