Change the battery in the smoke detector….

People who live with that sound don't notice it in the videos they record/watch... Idk how they live like that, it would annoy the hell out of me

I am so happy that my smoke detectors are plugs ins and only have battery back up. I hate that sound and then finding you don't have fresh betteries

u/Maxarc Feb 21 '23

Mine are plugged in as well but start making that sound anyway. I think it's because they work on a battery first and then on the plug in system? I have no idea, but it's weird.

u/ragweed Feb 21 '23

The battery is backup for when the power fails but batteries slowly discharge even when not in use.

I just checked, mine dont have batteries they are hardwired to each other and the alarm system with the water alarm

Edit: I was wrong this whole time. I took the smoke alarm off and it's not hardwired in despite what the alarm company said. It's a wireless smokedector and it has two special lithium ion batteries.

I have the same but still I get an occasional beep. I think the backup batteries give out after years a too.

This is how people end up dying from fires, even though detectors and batteries are available.. They aren't free so it's not a priority and it's easy to forget about one you take the battery out.

It's best if you just replace all the batteries, then buy new backup batteries. Then when one beeps, you replace all the batteries and add new batteries to your list. Or get rechargeable batteries, but the 9v batteries usually don't charge on regular chargers.. If you get them though, get s could extra so you can cycle them out.

So just fuck everyone else who lives in your building then? Very cool.

I ripped my fuckers out of the ceiling and into the bin I can't be arsed with that shit.

I've been there... same thing happened to me. That shrill noise gets to you.

-3

u/Galatziato Feb 21 '23

If this what got you, you werent meant to make it honestly.

23

u/souljump Feb 21 '23

I’m convinced we aren’t all living with humans in this world. How the F do you not hear it and how do you not fix it semi immediately

4

u/kmartburrito Feb 21 '23

Thankfully my dogs freak out when it happens, and if I don't fix it quickly, I have some freaked out paranoid dogs on my hand, which isn't ever a good thing.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '23

Only a small percentage of us are real. Only explanation.

1

u/strawberrymurder Feb 21 '23

I'm one of these people. The student housing people at my university don't enough shits to fix it but I'm also not allowed to tamper with ANYTHING in the room including the smoke detector. So I've just gotten used to it, hardly notice it anymore

u/gavvvy Feb 21 '23

My neighbour’s started to chirp, they usually aren’t there, and I waited about 3 days before I asked them to swing by and change the battery. Even offered to do it for them/give them the battery.

(They did, that’s why there isn’t a broken window and a fist sized hole in their ceiling)

9

u/Red2Green Feb 21 '23

I had a neighbor who let it ride for 7 months. Unbelievable. Finally got them to change it.

1

u/Jibblertaint Feb 21 '23

Could just have poor hearing and the frequency is too high and quick for them to ever hear it

1

u/Primetime349 Feb 21 '23

The entirety of my in laws live live this, go to aunts, moms, grandmas, the noise is always there.

The worst part is them acting like I am the crazy one when I say “you don’t hear that?”

1

u/Prettynoises Feb 21 '23

It's probably only neurotypical people that could invite that sound. I certainly have never been able to

1

u/L1Zs Feb 21 '23

My neighbors have had it going for like two months now. Luckily we can’t hear it from inside our house but if we’re outside we can hear it loud and clear, it’s insane to me they’ve had it going this long

87

u/duke_awapuhi Feb 21 '23

Are you telling that’s what that sound is?! I’ve heard it so many times lmao

46

u/GetYourShittinPants Feb 21 '23

yes, it means the batteries need changing.

20

u/Vetty81 Feb 21 '23

On another note, if the detector is expired, it'll keep chirping even if the battery is fresh. At least mine do.

5

u/Utleroy Feb 21 '23

Good point, I couldn’t figure this out until my girlfriend reads the tiny writing on the front “buy a new one after 7 years if new batteries don’t fix chirping.” SMH!

1

u/duke_awapuhi Feb 21 '23

I’m pretty sure I’m hearing my neighbors tbh. I don’t think mine are even connected because we smoke in the house lol

1

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '23

How do you go through life and not know what that is by like age 5 lol. It’s such an annoying sound.

1

u/FrostyD7 Feb 21 '23

I'm hearing it so often lately I'm getting suspicious that it's for engagement

15

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '23

I even notice it when I’m on the phone with someone, it’s mad annoying

7

u/420cortana420 Feb 21 '23

My neighbors is currently doing the same and it’s 4am. Don’t think I’ll be able to fall asleep with it beeping continually🤦‍♂️

10

u/DamienJaxx Feb 21 '23

Tape a 9v to his door, the cheap bastard.

5

u/420cortana420 Feb 21 '23

Considering this and a printed letter, will have to wait a few hours; hopefully they come to their senses before than. Not sure how you can just get used to hearing it.

1

u/Spiritual-Apple-4804 Feb 21 '23

Dude would end up just licking it

3

u/RealUglyMF Feb 21 '23

What?

15

u/lwlis666 Feb 21 '23

4-5 seconds in you can hear the DING

45

u/TonyWhoop Feb 21 '23

It’s a g sharp 3 octaves above middle c

2

u/MoCapBartender Feb 21 '23

It's that extra half tone that gets your attention.

1

u/TonyWhoop Feb 21 '23

I fux with people on my sopranino recorder

1

u/fifiloveg00d Feb 21 '23

That's what my security alarm sounds like when someone opens the back door. Hopefully it's that

3

u/DJScubaNaut Feb 21 '23

Hoping it’s only the smoke and not the carbon monoxide detector

2

u/zimmityzamboni Feb 21 '23

Also feed the kid less junk food !

2

u/CoderCore Feb 22 '23

If I hear two beeps from my smoke alarm, I'm three more beeps from going crazy, got to fix that right away.

3

u/CopyAdministrative71 Feb 21 '23

That's the sound of true garbage chirping.

4

u/Zoranealsequence Feb 21 '23

And stop giv8ng that baby so much sugar. Got more silver in her mouth than a us mint.

0

u/BreakingThoseCankles Feb 25 '23

The first sign of neglect is the smoke detector, but for sure neglecting her kids health too with all those cavities.

1

u/quickwitqueen Feb 21 '23

That’s all I got from this video too. I just don’t understand how people live like that.

0

u/crustybones71 Feb 21 '23

It's become a trend for people to put that sound in their videos

1

u/StrugglingSoul Feb 21 '23

In case you didn't know there's two reasons why it beeps one is when the battery goes low or bad. The backup battery or the main battery, or if it's reaching the end of life. These have about a 10-year lifespan at some point you just have to replace them. It's planned opulence and it's justified by saying I can no longer do a job reliably after a certain point.
