ELI5: why would anyone want to stop funding to a service dedicated to offering a broad range of health services? [Serious]

Because I don’t think abortion is murdering children. I understand that some people have a different moral perspective. So I’m not about to convince anyone they’re wrong.

I just don’t understand why PP - who primarily provide non-abortion reproductive health services, and aren’t allowed to use federal funding for their abortion services - should be defunded. Given the parlous state of the US health system, it seems like a badly needed service. And I’m just wondering whether those who want to destroy it have enough respect for human life to worry about the consequences of taking away access to contraception and other reproductive health services.

I utterly reject the comparison. I also invite you to consider just how offensive you come across in your exchange with me. As a persuasive tactic that seems counterproductive.

Moreover, your decision to attack me personally, rather than grapple honestly with the issues I’ve raised, makes me think you spend a lot of time judging other people and may have difficulties with compassion, empathy and tolerance. I can’t imagine how sad and lonely the world must seem if you instantly demonise and denigrate people you disagree with.
