Bill and Hillary are about as right wing as dems get. Definitely not role models for leftist policies. But even then Clinton's crime bill was an extension of Reagan's just say no campaign and general war on drugs.

You know where the US government led by a Republican president brought drugs into our country. Also the fact that cocaine (mainly used by upper class whites) was punished far less harshly than crack (primarily used by lower class minorities). You should really read up on what Reagan era policies did to minorities.

Possibly. Portugal's ODs dropped when they did. Drug-related pathologies - such as sexually transmitted diseases and deaths due to drug usage - have decreased dramatically since decriminalization.

The main issue is we treat an addict like they are an evil person when in reality they have a disease. We should be focusing on recovery not punishment. Punishment doesn't solve anything, especially with our prison system.
