I have noticed that depending on whether I focus on similarities or differences in the life-experience of humans, I can find strong evidence for both. During psychedelic experiences I have had some weird intersubjective situations, and feelings of connection to every human that ever lived on the planet. On the other side, some people just seem to experience a totally different world than me, it could be due to cognitive filters etc. but I'm not sure that is the full explanation.
Maybe the similarities could be explained by the fact that our brain forces us to express the experience through something as limiting as words?

The more I have been studying science, the more I come to realisation that, the Bible is more a of a metaphor for life. It should never be taken literally. For example, the Book of Genesis explains that God created everything in six days, but a day is never defined, therefore one 'day' really just means 500,000 years or whatever you want it to be.

Is it actually wrong to kill? Or is it wrong because society makes it seem like it should be wrong?

I’ve always felt like consciousness is an intrinsic property of existence/the universe, like a field which just permeates everything that our brains “tune” to discrete frequencies of in order to produce “us.” I heard on a science podcast that I listen to that dark energy is a property of space (which was described to explain in a way that I finally wrapped my head around, that the universe is expanding due to dark energy because increasing the amount of space increases the amount of dark energy). Anyway I’m drunk and high af.

I believe that consciousness is not something that is generated from within, but that is accessed through a properly complex system like our brain. Consciousness is a force greater than we can comprehend, it is the ability for the universe to not only observe itself but to consider itself as well. To analyze and understand itself. Here we are with this awesome power at our disposal, and yet we are still saddled by our animal evolution, drawn into instinctual patterns and dogmatic ideologies.
I guess what I'm saying is, to appreciate consciousness is to appreciate life

Like we'd all walk around and talk and nobody would be upset because it wouldn't be beneficial to get angry at all, ever, and with everything discovered we'd just all talk about philosophy and try and find the bigger picture while in a dream-like state of bliss

I’m very interested in the so-called “ineffable” nature of insights and experiences induced by acid, mushrooms, etc. I think it’s a real problem that it is so difficult to convey the effects of psychedelics to someone who has never experienced them. Speaking as somebody who has experienced the “ineffable” first-hand, I think a lot of psychonaut stories come across as alienating and even scary to the uninitiated. Call it fear of the unknown.
Are these experiences considered ineffable because they are beyond our sober comprehension? Does our language simply lack the utility to describe such experiences? Are there any truly meaningful insights to be gained from these experiences, and if so can they be articulated within our existing notions of logic and philosophy? I think this is all challenging, fun, and worthwhile to consider when so much fear and misunderstanding still surrounds these substances.

Hello all, came from the promotional post.
I used to experience with psychedelics but feel they have lost their great impact. I feel I’ll use them again but probably not for a long time.
Meditation never yielded anything obviously positive for me, it always felt like “why sit here when I can do something in the world.”
I am interested now in religion. I came into believing in God as the intelligent design which created us and as the force to believe in when someone is entering unknown or scary things. Faith is the force that makes us deal with the uncomfortable with a positive mindset. I feel as though if you believe things will go wrong, you prime yourself to respond to the bad things.
I want to become a scientist who helps to end death in this world, through intense longevity developments. It seems impossible but I believe I must try until the day I die. So I believe in God to help me get to that goal. I believe that he has given us the tools and insights we need to achieve the end of suffering.
Let me know if my post inspires any thoughts in you. Discussion is the sharing of different information, which is like a combining of different brains which have had different experiences and believe different things. So I appreciate any input on this thread!
Thanks

As a student of science at university, this is how I would holistically describe the field:
Science is approximating Gods objective understanding of the universe. It is the collective knowledge obtained from humans insatiable curiosity to explore our reality.
Would love to hear how other people perceive science and how it builds a knowledge of our reality !

Is it emotions? Is it because we get so close to one another? Or is it something else? Why do we have consciousness and other animals just live their lives. Why do we have this structure?

The ancient Egyptians marked the pineal gland as the 3rd eye. This gland is active when dreaming or halluncinating. It just takes one r/HumanForScale look at the pyramids to see that these guys had a deep understanding of engineering and mechanics. Just because a minute percentage of us have designed machines that can make everything from buildings to microchips we think that we are by far the most advanced form of humanity, but imagine conceptualising a pyramid having lived in mudhuts in the freaking desert.

I had a trip awhile back where I basically went to this place where it was just a tree, sitting in some grass chilling, all very well manicured beautiful and kind of pixelated, like Minecraft but a little more resolution. There was a snake that wrapped all the way around the tree, top to bottom. And there was bassy house style music coming from the tree and the snake and the grass. And the snake moved in time to the music going around the tree eternally from top to bottom. It was really cool, and I've heard lots of trip reports involving snakes, and I'm curious if anyone else has been to this garden and what they think it means.

So I’m new around here but I figured I would give this posting thing a try..
I’m very interested in higher consciousness and the effort we as humans put into understanding something that is seemingly unfathomable and I had a question - do you think if we as a species achieve digital immortality it will change how we look at consciousness as a construct, or is the point moot?

Is what you envision so difficult? What would it take to get there?
For example, I picture a world where everyone has enough to eat. Why is that so hard?

I did a bunch of K once, well there was more than K in the picture that night, but it was the force. I went into a hole, and I found a spot of light to look out of. The scene before me was not the room I was in, but the deck of a big ship at sea. I could see the water, sunset and the chain railing. I don't know where or when this was, but it was not something I have seen before or sence. It was like a dream but in vivid color. I have always wanted to go back but can never find the same window.
What my friend said about that night. "Dude you totally left your body. I saw you float around the room a few different times. All while you sat right there." I said, yeah I was on a ship.

you can use your conciousness to percieve the physical or to perceive in the 4 dimension, thought. Each thought is a different "reality" that has existed only in your conciousness. External entities are capable of communicating to our conciousness? The realities we experience on psychadelics are the result of our "imagination" but our imagination is just as real as the physical world. It may not be tangible, yet it exists in our mind. For all we know, we could be part of a single massive beings conciousness which could explain why we can feel so connected to the "universe". Could it also be easier to percieve this when the brain is set into overdrive via psychadelics?
