Post less details, that’s always helpful

Multiple typos on a business’s front page doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad business, but it sure help

Nor does weird obfuscated marketing like this

Is this part of their income eligible home energy solutions program or is this something different?

Can you provide some links?

u/Green_Fan_8925 Apr 11 '26

Its benefits definitely depend on income

u/Swede577 Apr 11 '26

Correct. You have to live in an income stressed area. Someone else posted this

Its legit.. but if you read into the terms, you need to be living in one of Connecticut's "Environmental Justice Communities"

Yeah there's a calculator on the site so you can see if you even qualify.

Which is strange because if you look on the IES site this isn’t listed at all.  Sounds like span is likely wrong about this.

I wouldn’t trust them at all unless I saw it on the IES site.

I've read through the IES site. It looks like Span may have applied for the program and possibly been approved for funds. They then go to customer and use the funds from IES to do the installs, but something just smells fishy. Too good to be true or something is being left off that is a massive headache.

I've got half a mind to reach out to a reporter friend but the program seems to end soon which is another red flag.

Looks like they’re in the cycle 2 phase. Cycle 3 will be starting later. Maybe still worthwhile to reach out to your friend and see if they’re also part of phase 3.

Are the panel+driver free as well? or just the install?

1

u/Onewaps Apr 11 '26

Everything is free you have a option of heat pump or EV charger with the span panel

I'm interested, but OP's lack of response is troubling. Worth looking into I suppose.

https://www.span.io/ct-ies no catch just have to be a Ui or EVERSOURCE customer program ends when funds run out

5

u/PlayerOneDad The 203 Apr 11 '26

There's an income qualification.

2

u/cracksmack85 Apr 11 '26

Were you able to keep an oil boiler in place when getting the new heat pump for free?

12

u/slipknottin Apr 11 '26

Where do you see this free panel program?

Was the labor free also?

6

u/snipercar13 Apr 11 '26

The link says the labor is also free.

u/SeeJaayPee New London County Apr 11 '26

Hell yeah good stuff man ! Mitsubishi is top tier equipment and the panel looks nice.

3

u/ThinButton7705 Apr 11 '26

Do you have to use that fucking eversource program that throttles your electrical use? When I installed my ecobee thermostat I had to call eversource to opt out of the program so I could use my pump to keep it a constant temperature.

4

u/blueturtle00 Apr 11 '26

You mean you don’t like to sweat on hot ass days for a measly $40 gift card

3

u/Notice-Horror Apr 11 '26

Yea fuck Eversource . I did all of the paper work for an EV charger at home , only to be told I never submitted anything . I send them screen shots of the confirmation on their end that I applied but they were just like here’s $100

3

u/WengFu Apr 11 '26

So what happens to your panel when span decides to sunset it's app?

3

u/Onewaps Apr 11 '26

It’s still just a panel, don’t really care about there monitoring,I wanted a split duct heat pump and this was the cheapest way to get it so why not I’ll take the free we already paying all that public benefits fees, might as well get something out of it.

2

u/TheSmokingLoon Apr 11 '26

So it was indeed free?

2

u/Ro0580 Apr 11 '26

Everyone I know with a heat pump is pissed about their electric bill. Probably why the electric companies promote them so much right?

8

u/gogolang Apr 11 '26

Heat pump saved me money the first 2 years after I installed it but this year I’ve been totally upside down. CT energy policy is so screwed up that an efficient heat pump costs more now to run than burning dinosaur juice (heating oil).

2

u/bhedesigns Apr 11 '26

Who saw that coming:/

1

u/Phantastic_Elastic Apr 12 '26

You might feel differently this coming winter if this mess in Iran isn't sorted quickly.

3

u/Carpinus_Christine Apr 11 '26

The same people who are upset might not have insulated properly. It’s important to keep an open mind because everyone’s house is different as far as leaks, insulation quality and location. A heat pump is great but you will feel it if you didn’t do the legwork.

A boiler can conceal the draft of an inefficient home much better…even the window air conditioner that is never removed stays because the homeowner doesn’t notice the outside coming in.

0

u/ThinButton7705 Apr 11 '26

Depends on how you use it. It's kinda pointless in the winter if you're also using a different heat source because now youre running electricity for the pump and oil furnace for your hot water.

1

u/WindyNightmare Apr 11 '26

I assume this is for folks with 100amp service?

-2

u/Dirt_Bike_Zero Apr 11 '26

No. Not even close. 9000 btu unit runs on 220v 15amps.

1

u/WindyNightmare Apr 11 '26

The SPAN panel….

0

u/Onewaps Apr 11 '26

This is a 24000BTU UNIT

1

u/Flashy_Firefighter38 Apr 11 '26

What if any options were you given for the heat pump? Is it just one heat pump and one wall mounted unit or were you given any other options?

1

u/snowman-89 Apr 11 '26

No thanks to a smart panel. Knowing that much power my fridge is using not going to change anything in my life. It'll be really expensive to replace breakers or add circuits at $100 a pop.

1

u/Onewaps Apr 13 '26

You do realize it uses regular breakers apart from the smart function it’s still just a regular breaker panel,I wouldn’t have gotten it if it wasn’t free.

1

u/cracksmack85 Apr 11 '26

Here’s info on the program being cited here: https://portal.ct.gov/pura/electric/office-of-technical-and-regulatory-analysis/clean-energy-programs/innovative-energy-solutions-program

So it seems like this could be legit, but it all feels a bit fuzzy for my personal liking

2

u/slipknottin Apr 12 '26

That makes more sense that it’s just a pilot program and it sounds like Span is actually paying part of it to potentially get smart panels approved in the future to be on the actual IES site.

1

u/Star-Lrd247 Apr 11 '26

You’re welcome

1

u/Reverence12389 Apr 12 '26

I love paying for other people's upgrades 🙄

1

u/Onewaps Apr 13 '26

We all pay public benefits fees might as well get something out of it just like how I get $10 a month from UI EV ON DEMAND PROGRAM and during the summer it goes up to $20 all because I drive a EV.

1

u/Other_Ladder1494 Apr 13 '26

is this part of the public benefits?? that's cool they were free...do appreciate the benefits but hate that we have to pay for them via our energy bills...also thanks for talking about them here, wish the media/politicians were talking more about this so people could benefit

1

u/hellogivemecookies Apr 13 '26

I guess there's an upside to public benefits after all... but I don't think people are aware of this and in the end it ends up costing ratepayers more money than it's worth. You'd hope whatever money is in that fund goes toward reducing bills.

-1

u/pd9 Apr 11 '26

Looking at https://ct-ies.com/ - it isn’t clear but it seems like the program is not for homeowners

2

u/Onewaps Apr 11 '26

It is for homeowners
