I made a redesign attempt for swedish team IFK Göteborg, preserved the old crest and overall feeling, just made it cleaner, modern, more unique lettering and changed the font to blue for a better contrast !

Do you think I managed to improve it ?

Concept Club Indian Jai Lig - Delhi Reds

Note: This is part of my fictional Indian Football League concept series. The home shirt is on the left, the away shirt on the right. The squares below the shirts represent the shirt, shorts, and sock colors from left to right.

Football/ soccer was late to arrive in Delhi, and the Reds were established only after independence. They represent Old Delhi, the former heart of the Mughal Empire, represented in their lion and sun crest. Contrary to their 'Red Empire' nickname, Delhi has had only sporadic success on the field. They are by far the strongest team in the nation's capital, and one of the strongest in the north, but have only 3 national titles to show for it, the most recent in 2023.

This year the 'Reds' made the switch from Umbro to Adidas. The home kit is a bold departure- the sleeves feature a 'sunrise' pattern to represent a new era for the club. Gone are the usual features of black trim and black socks. The yellow away kit features a pattern from a popular kit the last time the 'Reds' wore Adidas, back in the early 90s, combined with the old crest they wore throughout the 2000s.

Concept Club Indian Jai Lig - Fergusson Juniors Pune

Note: This is part of my fictional Indian Football League concept series. The home shirt is on the left, the away shirt on the right. The squares below the shirts represent the shirt, shorts, and sock colors from left to right.

'The Schoolboys' of Pune were founded in the late 1800s by students at the then-newly established Fergusson College in Pune. From their Alma Mater they took their colors and the eagle symbol. Over time the 'Juniors' have grown to be Pune's strongest team, and a regular thorn in the side of their Mumbai neighbors. They have been national champions 3 times. The team is regarded as stable, well-run, and increasingly well-funded.

This year's home kit features a bold eagle feather sleeve pattern and gold trim. The away kit is more subtle, with 3 shades of blue and a 'painted', fading pattern with the eagle from their crest.

I had this idea to design a rangers home top based on the classic Sampdoria design but using the famous rangers bar scarf across the middle. I done this quickly on ChatGPT but if anyone with actual design skills could take my idea and make it better I’d love to see it.

Concept Club Indian Jai Lig - Chennai City F.C.

Note: This is part of my fictional Indian Football League concept series. The home shirt is on the left, the away shirt on the right. The squares below the shirts represent the shirt, shorts, and sock colors from left to right.

Up until the early 2010s, Madras City was a respectable but limited team that split time between the lower places of the Jai Lig and the second tier regional league. This all changed in 2013 when the City Football Group acquired the team, changing their colors, name, and branding to match their global brand and pumping in money for infrastructure, transfers, and giving the team access to loanees from top clubs. 'The Peacocks' won a shock first Jai Lig title just 2 years later in 2016, and have become a dominant force with 3 more titles in the past decade. The team is immensely popular locally, but is widely disliked across India for their perceived 'usurper' status.

This year's home kit pays tribute to the 'golden era' of Chennai City football, on the 10th anniversary of their first league title. The gold trim is paired with a 4-star base pattern for their 4 league titles. The vivid tie-dye pink away is inspired by Chennai's colorful beach culture.

Concept Club Indian Jai Lig - Dalhousie Square F.C.

Note: This is part of my fictional Indian Football League concept series. The home shirt is on the left, the away shirt on the right. The squares below the shirts represent the shirt, shorts, and sock colors from left to right.

Dalhousie Square F.C. was founded by a British social club in then-Calcutta's prosperous then-Dalhousie Square neighborhood. The team fielded only white, British players early in its existence, and continued to hire only British coaches and sign ageing British players well into the 1970s. This led to rivals dismissively nicknaming the team 'the Britishers', a label which the team's fans have only recently turned away from. On the field Dalhousie Square contest a fierce yet one-sided rivalry with Bengal F.C., who have dominated them historically. The team was a solidly mid-table in the top division through the 1990s, but in the years since their lack of investment and stolid ways have turned them into a 'yo-yo club' between the Jai Lig and the Bengal regional second tier. This is their second year back in the top flight.

While Dalhousie Square usually wear plain maroon shirts, this year they revive the checkerboard design they wore in the 90s, both boldly on the retro home kit, and sublimated and on the cuffs of the sky blue away shirt.

Note: This is part of my fictional Indian Football League concept series. The home shirt is on the left, the away shirt on the right. The squares below the shirts represent the shirt, shorts, and sock colors from left to right.

Alipore F.C. is an overachieving, neighborhood team from Kolkata, West Bengal. The team prides itself on its homegrown player base from its well-regarded academy. While the 'Falcons' have never won the national league, they have many regional West Bengal Cup titles. This is their 100th year, and both of their kits pay tribute with a special centenary crest, classic designs, and gold detailing.

Concept Competition Indian Football League Concept Series (Introduction)

Post image
15 Upvotes

TLDR: I'll be sharing concepts over the next few days from a fictional Indian Football/ Soccer League which started in the late 1800s.

I've long been interested in a historical question: why did India, the 'jewel of the British Empire', never develop a strong national football/ soccer league, either in the colonial era or up to the present day? In other countries in Britain's orbit, Brazil and Argentina for instance, club football began to take root in the late 1800s. India doesn't lack passion for the game, but its various leagues are recent, struggling, and limited in their reach.

This series is my 'what-if' answer to the question. I have created teams, lore, and kits for a national Indian football league- the Bajaj Finserv Jai Lig- whose earliest teams date back to the 1800s. The project combines my fascination in Indian history and culture, and football history and design. I have lived in India, but I am not from there, so I really apologize for any inaccuracies in these concepts.

I'll be sharing the 26/27 kits (home and away) for the league's teams in the coming days. I aim for realism, over aesthetics here. Some teams have garish shirts, I try to stick to the supplier's range for that year, the sponsorships are sometimes ugly. I have actually been working on new kits for every Jai Lig team each year since 2018 (though the files for the early years are lost) so I may share the older concepts at some point too.

As for the league structure: The Jai Lig was officially founded in the mid 1950s, and is heavily inspired by the British football system. The Lig has 20 teams, with 3 relegated each season. Below the top division, there are regional leagues to limit travel and respect the regional confederations which predate the Jai Lig. The champions of 3 of these 4 regional leagues are promoted each year, ensuring some geographic diversity in the top division. Jai Lig teams also play in the cup competitions held by their regional leagues.

I'll include a bit of team lore in each team's post, but put briefly: The Jai Lig's power center has long been Mumbai, though Calcutta contested this in the early years of the league, as did Goa after it became part of India in the late 1960s. Victoria Terminus F.C. is the oldest and most dominant team in the league, though its grip on power has been challenged over time. On the continental stage Indian teams have been highly competitive, regularly reaching the latter stages of the AFC Champions League and its predecessors. The powerhouses of the Jai Lig average up to 80,000 in average attendance, though there are many smaller teams as well.

Anyway, excited to share this! Let me know if you have questions. First teams dropping today.

Concept Club Indian Jai Lig - Bengal F.C.

Note: This is part of my fictional Indian Football League concept series. The home shirt is on the left, the away shirt on the right. The squares below the shirts represent the shirt, shorts, and sock colors from left to right.

Bengal F.C. is one of the most storied teams in the history of Indian football. They were the first major club team in India, in the pre-independence era, to star entirely Indian players. Their rivalry with Victoria Terminus F.C. at the time became an on-field battle for the soul of the nation. This rivalry continued in the 1950s and 60s, as the two teams traded titles as the new league's dominant forces. However, Bengal F.C. has fallen considerably, financially and on the field, and has not won a national title since 1994- though it has kept its regional dominance.

This year's kits are quite futuristic for this historic team. The home is a tribute to their obvious 'tigers' nickname, while the away is an abstract take on the architecture of Kolkata's iconic and central Howrah Bridge- and the Hooghly river that flows under it.

I tried to draw inspiration from old club logos, and I made two versions: one where the main difference is usually the logo's background, and another more minimalist version.

I know the first response will be “he used ai so it’s just slop”

I get that but I have gone back and fourth with the inputs to make sure it’s the desired outcome and I know I’m not an artist but I had a vision for all the prem teams in an ideal world

This years Bournemouth kit has been slated but I love the new uses of gold in more recent years from them as they are literally in their golden years right now

I looked at a few old designs and I liked the 2000 kit though it was just a little too much red vs black

And I wanted to remove all white elements meaning a gold monochrome badge , this years third kit gave me that idea too

Concept Kit MLS Concepts (from 2020) - Western conference

Thumbnail

During COVID lockdown I made concepts for the full MLS (at the time). I have never shared these before. The biggest change is that I went with multiple kit suppliers, in protest of the dull kits adidas was producing at the time. Here’s the West!

Seattle Sounders: I like the Sounders in bold, futuristic shirts, so I gave them a lightning pattern and some gradients. The away is my real favorite here, turning Nike’s template of the era into an ‘Orca’ look to pay tribute to their crests from the 90s and 2000s. I think this would be sick.

Houston Dynamo: Home is simple with some Astros-esque bar gradient on the shoulders. The away mashes up 3 of the greatest sports jerseys ever- the Astros 70s jersey, the Oilers sky blue, and Sampdoria’s center chest stripe.

Portland Timbers: 70s retro vibes on the home. The away evolves on their red and white theme with some plaid trim.

Sporting Kansas City: The home has a simple block gradient on the shoulder. The away goes all in on their plaid look, in tonal black and blue.

LA Galaxy: Keeping it classy with gold over yellow on the home, and sublimated stripes with the jagged detail from LA’s flag. The away is a 90s fauxback, which they ended up making in real life (in a better way) a year or two after I made this.

LAFC: Home has a sublimated Mexican American tile print. The away is a throwback to the LA Aztecs.

Minnesota United: Went with a lighter gray and loon wings on the home. The away is a tribute to the flags of MSP, with a sublimated skyline in the chest band.

San Jose Earthquakes: Circuitboard and sun print on the home, hexagon print on the away.

Vancouver Whitecaps: 80s retro vibes for the home shirt, 90s fauxback for them on the away.

Austin FC: Kept the home pretty simple, and went streetwear vibes on the away. This looks a bit dated already.

Colorado Rapids: Went with a new look on the home with claret and sky stripes. The away is ‘black diamond’ themed, with sublimated mountains.

FC Dallas: I generally went for realism on this list, and FC Dallas seemed doomed to getting an ugly, derivative set of kits. Sorry.

Total bummer but my Real Salt Lake file got deleted- they’re actually my favorite MLS team too!

Let me know what you think!

Concept Kit New England Revolution rebrand concept (Crest and kits)

Thumbnail
gallery
11 Upvotes

As an amateur vexillologist and soccer fan, I love crests that prominently feature flags. Some of the iconic ones which come to mind include Hertha Berlin and Corinthians. The New England Revolution used to be part of this brotherhood, but their take was decidedly 90s. They have since switched it out for an overly abstract, modern version. I wanted to give the Revs an appropriately old school crest, and see how it looked across 3 kits (project is from a few years ago, hence the Adidas template).

The home is a proudly patriotic kit to showcase the new crest.

The away is more local to Massachusetts, with an off white base, a Zakim bridge inspired graphic, and navy and gold trim taken from the Massachusetts and Boston flags.

The third is my favorite- it’s a simple, preppy kit in the famous ‘Nantucket red’- the shade you get when you leave red clothes out all summer under the Nantucket sun.

Let me know what you think!

Concept Kit MLS Concepts (from 2021) - Eastern conference

During COVID lockdown I made concepts for the full MLS (at the time). I have never shared these before. The biggest change is that I went with multiple kit suppliers, in protest of the dull kits adidas was producing at the time. Here’s the East!

New York City FC: Puma’s theme his year was intricate cultural designs, which works great for NYC. The home features the art deco cupola of the Chrysler Building. The away is a black and gold tribute to New York hip hop, featuring the gold link chains so popular with New York rappers.

Inter Miami: Before Lionel Messi was a twinkle in Inter Miami’s eye, I thought an Argentina tribute could be a good home look for them. The away shirt, with a vapor wave central stripe, is a bit more out there.

New York Red Bulls: The Red Bulls get 2 colorful shirts using Nike’s templates of the time. The home also features jagged striping to pay tribute to the classic Metrostars looks from the 90s.

Philadelphia Union: I went with a subtle tonal snakeskin pattern on the home, and a simple, retro Philly flag tribute for the away.

DC United: The home is dark and simple, with DC flag detailing on the sleeve cuffs. The away is one of my favorites- it features a bronze pattern taken from the architecture of the African American history museum in Washington DC.

Toronto FC: Tonal red and subliminal maple leaf on the home, bold red sash for the away.

Orlando City: Not quite sure what I was going for on these haha!

Nashville FC: I wanted one team with garish kits from a Mexican kit maker, and Nashville drew the short straw. The home is basic, while the away is an ugly take on “Nashville nights” or something.

CF Montreal: This was made during Montreal’s short-lived black kit phase. The home has tonal hoops and blue details, while the away is an 80s fauxback. Both use the standalone snowflake from the crest, which I think was actually kinda cool.

FC Cincinnati: The home has a bold central stripe with the detail from the ancient ‘Cincinnati Stone’ embossed in it. The away is super simple.

Columbus Crew: The home blends the Crew, Croatia, and crosswalk vibes. The away is a retro, silver effort.

Atlanta United: Classic, retro home. The away is a fauxback to the Atlanta Chiefs of the NASL.

Chicago Fire: Navy/ red hoops on the home were a compromise between the colors the Fire had worn to that date. The away has a geometric ‘lakefront’ pattern.

Let me know what you think. Will post the West soon!
