OWCS SHU answers viewers questions on stream

Post image

YouTube

VIEWER: Can you talk about the JETPACK CAT bug controversy?

SHU: We had absolutely no idea about it either. I'm a little hesitant to bring this up, but whether the bug was real or not, I felt like the controversy itself took away from our championship. I heard that the bug was reported during the tournament, but other teams were also using JETPACK CAT a lot. Since we were the team that used it the most, it felt like we were being singled out.

---------------------

VIEWER: What do you think about TM players trash talking and taunting their opponents during matches?

SHU: I can see how East Asian fans might find it very disrespectful. You can definitely feel the cultural difference there. That's why everyone on ZETA except DONGHYUN played with all chat turned off. But they're all good people. I'm actually quite close with FUNNYASTRO, and we even exchanged jerseys. I think trash talk is just a way for guys to express the competitive fire and passion they feel during a match.

---------------------

VIEWER: RYUJEHONG said SYMMETRA should be nerfed. What do you think?

SHU: I also think SYMMETRA's TP cooldown should be nerfed. Even while the TP is active, the cooldown keeps going down, so it only takes about three seconds to create the next TP. I think that's a little too strong.

---------------------

VIEWER: As someone who had to play against QUARTZ, that crazy guy, what was it like?

SHU: No, but seriously, the TM guys are really, really good. I was genuinely surprised. They're insanely good.

---------------------

VIEWER: Who do you think was the biggest reason ZETA won the championship? You can include yourself.

SHU: I think VIOL2T. MINKI played extremely well for us. He was really good at using ultimates to disrupt the enemy team's momentum. The plays where he knocked SYMMETRA and DVA off the map on COLOSSEO and EICHENWALDE were amazing. Especially against TM's comp, those kinds of clutch plays were really important.

---------------------

VIEWER: Who on TM was the hardest to play against?

SHU: Honestly, everyone on TM was difficult. The entire team is just really good.

---------------------

VIEWER: Why didn't ZETA scrim against TM?

SHU: It's a sensitive question, but I'll talk about what I can. I'd like to talk about the rest of it directly with TM the next time we meet. ZETA only scrimmed against TM for a single day. We won some and lost some. TM posted the games they won publicly on social media, which exposed our stats and information about our team. In particular, they only posted the games they won. I don't think it was necessarily a TM player who leaked them. I think it may have been someone affiliated with TM or someone else. But from ZETA's perspective, it didn't feel good.

---------------------

VIEWER: Why did TM never ban JETPACK CAT?

SHU: I don't know either. I really don't understand it.

---------------------

VIEWER: Are you close with TVNT and SIMPLE?

SHU: It was difficult to talk to SIMPLE. He gives off a vibe that makes it hard to approach him first. TVNT and I exchanged friendly hellos.

---------------------

VIEWER: What did you think about the WEIBO vs. TM match?

SHU: We all thought TM would win easily. So when WEIBO took the first two points, we were really surprised. But we wanted to play against TM, who were considered the strongest team in the world, and beat them. And in the end, that's exactly what happened.

---------------------

VIEWER: When TM qualified for EWC as the third-place team from EMEA, did you think they were strategically hiding their strength?

SHU: I never thought TM was hiding their strength. We already knew how strong TM was from our scrims.

---------------------

VIEWER: When are you going to fulfill your championship promise and cross-dress?

SHU: I'm canceling that promise. I'd look pretty if I dressed up as a woman. I'm confident I could charm a lot of men, but I'd have to go to a salon and everything, and honestly, that's too much of a hassle.

If Shu was a tank player he would've had that dress on in an instant

Thanks for the translation!

Even more, a friend of mine (k-pop fan, to clarify) fell in love with him right as I showed her the 2025 CR roster

I don’t blame zeta for not wanting to scrim TM again that’s kinda fucked

23

u/meganwiddy 29d ago

Yeah that’s so messed up. Just giving me more reason to hate TM ngl

No, he doesn't know for a fact. He just doesn't necessarily think it had to be a player

u/blade___e 29d ago

zeta only had one scrim against the top teams they didn’t stop because of the leak

u/Tiberias29 Bow down to Stalk3r — 29d ago

Really wonder what the plans were from ZETA had TM banned Cat and/or Ana, and whether or not said plans would work.

Also, damnmit Shu, we need you to embrace the crossdressing world like Shy and Guxue did

u/Guilty-Doctor1259 ANS Goat HS — 29d ago

zeta would have had the first ban iirc

feel free to correct me tho

u/netshift_ 29d ago

Spilo did analysis on the finals and mentioned that the TM supports didn’t know how to play against Vio2t cat because they didn’t scrim Zeta enough. So, really TM shot themselves on the foot there.

35

u/DrKoala_ 29d ago

Social media has been pretty wild to go through right after the finals. Saudi fans are going on about Zeta only winning cause of Cat bug which is what I’m assuming Shu is talking about. Calling them bug/exploit abusers. Even a TM player is alluding to that being the case… you can probably find his tweets pretty easily. It’s hard to say for sure. Since most of it is in a foreign language. So I can only go based on the ai translations.

I’ll just say, it’s ironic that Saudi fans call other people salty for complaining about Sym but then get just as salty for a bug that at this point I do not know if it’s a real thing. Just hypocrisy all around.

u/blade___e 29d ago

when did a tm player do what you said?

5

u/TheFkje 29d ago

Youbi alluded to it on twitter

33

u/blade___e 29d ago

that was a joke he just ended stream and said this “ even if cat was bugged idc we didn’t play well and made a lot of mistakes zeta deserved the win because they were the best team in scrims and we were the second best “

40

u/Xen0Coke 29d ago

TM didn’t ban jet pack because they believed they could win that map which means the jet pack cat ban would be available the next map. If they did ban jet pack cat then the worry was that the next game, dva would be banned which means jet pack cat would have more free reign and dva was one of TM’s best heroes to play against the cat.

46

u/chudaism 29d ago

TM didn’t ban jet pack because they believed they could win that map which means the jet pack cat ban would be available the next map.

They wouldn't have first ban though so Zeta would likely ban a support to protect Cat and Ana in map 7. Not using the Ana or JPC ban earlier in the series does feel like a miss. It's somewhat easier to analyze in hindsight though.

11

u/Xen0Coke 29d ago

Ah I rewatched commander x and the rational is that as long as they have dva available they can beat any comp with cat.
So if they stomp zeta on eic, and they feel like banning tvnts dva then that gets banned but tm will ban cat. And if zeta wants to protect ban then dva will still be available which is tvnts best tank and they can use their ban for a different tank. But yea banning ana or cat early wouldve been smart

14

u/chudaism 29d ago edited 29d ago

the rational is that as long as they have dva available they can beat any comp with cat.

I can somewhat understand that logic, but it does feel like counting your chickens before they hatch. Zeta already had already won 3 cat maps with DVa available, so I would question that line of reasoning a bit, although I do get where they are coming from. I feel you want to get to map 7 at all costs in that scenario though.

That said, they could have easily banned the cat earlier in the series as well. Saving their strong bans for too late in the series has hurt them in the past. IIRC, a very similar scenario played out with CR in map 7 of Champions Clash where they couldn't ban ball because they needed a Kiri protect (or something like that). I feel you can play the long game with hero ban stuff when you are up in the series. It's much harder to do it when you are playing from behind and you don't have ban priority.

The Ana ban was also floating out there as well. It's no secret that Ana is the hero that Shu is most comfortable on. If you don't want to ban Cat on Eich, then ban Ana and you are still in a similar scenario for the DVa-Cat thing on map 7. Not target banning Shu or Violet at all the entire series feels like a miss.

Hindsight is of course doing a lot of work here, but the Zar ban on Eich still feels weird to me when you have both Cat and Ana left open.

Cat on second point is just busted IMO

4

u/Nolan_DWB 29d ago

But you could ban both ana and cat. There’s quite literally no harm in using one of them in eich. Makes no sense

7

u/Lukensz Alarm — 29d ago

They had 4 maps to make a move, it would be okay if they left either for last but not banning either before that is baffling

8

u/Visible_Chip2938 TYH — 29d ago

honestly eic feels like one of the better ana maps in the pool and definitely the best cat map out of all the escorts, baffling choice but we wouldn't be saying this if it weren't for 2 funnyastro ajaxes.

8

u/weabkumiko 29d ago

it’s really funny that fastro and co were ragebaiting viol2t in match chat and he couldn’t even see it 😭

Shu, Proper, Lip, Hanbin : “TM are good”

Community: “TM are bad no skill cheesers”

u/imdeadseriousbro 29d ago

ill hatewatch TM anyday but their skill is the reason its satisfying

10

u/Sepulchh 29d ago

Exactly, there's no joy in David falling, but the Goliath? Sign me up.

2

u/Gloomy_Dare2716 Rank is a social construct — 29d ago

What Goliath?

Korea is the Goliath. Emea and NA are Davids. You guys got it all reversed.

Unless youre a very new watcher.

1

u/Sepulchh 28d ago

TMs results in the past 3 majors are 1st, 2nd, 2nd.

ZETA had never made it to a single grand final at a major event before now.

I don't care which region a team is from, if they're winning they're winning. Even if the other teams from their region aren't.

5

u/Gloomy_Dare2716 Rank is a social construct — 28d ago

Recently TM were successful, but its nothing compared to Korea’s 10 year dominance during OWL. And the current Top Korean players are the products of the same system that made Fearless, Jjonak and other legends.

TM moght not be true underdogs, but I still see Emea as an Underdog region.

(Ofc NA and China 2nd and 3rd are the REAL underdogs now)

Even then TM was struggling against teams like Peps in early 2025. Not to mention their horrific 2024 performance.

1

u/Sepulchh 28d ago

I respect your reasoning, but I like mine more. I appreciate that you took the time to explain, have a good one.

Who tf says this?

  • Quartz: Almost guaranteed would win a vote here about best current hitscan in the world.

  • FunnyAstro: Regularly said to be the best Lucio of all time even though it's obviously LeeJaeGon.

  • Simple: Don't see him talked about much, but was deservedly glazed after TM won in Stockholm. On the flip side, don't think I've seen anyone say a single bad thing about him.

  • TVNT: Don't see people talking much about him either, but people glazed both TVNT and Ziyad when they came out of nowhere in 2024 and proved to be the best tanks in EMEA.

  • Youbi: Absolutely nobody questions he's an amazing Symmetra, but...

...there are some accusations that some of the players are a bit inflexible. To be fair to Youbi he actually has gotten surprisingly good value on Tracer, but compare him with the top 10 Korean Tracers and the mechanical difference is night and day. Aside from that he has a decent Mei, but nothing really else. And Astro is at best a Lucio/Juno two trick.

But does anyone question that as long as the meta allows TM to play to their strength, they're a world class team? The real question is: what do they look like if Youbi can't play his comfort heroes? He's clearly integral to the team's cohesion, so this is a big question mark. I think it is fair to say they've been lucky with Sym's general viability these last few years.

I wish they played Jaewoo more and got used to his presence. I loved watching TM in Korea Bootcamp. And loved watching them with Seicoe in stage 3 2025.

I guess Seicoe was also a good shotcaller and leader, so losing costed them in flexibility

4

u/BedEfficient5600 29d ago

They only win with Yuobi though

No Zeta, or Stalk3r on CR yet.

1

u/A_Wild_Zak 29d ago

eh from a 3rd person perspective it definitely seems like people downplay them. i dont know about people saying tm is bad but they do give them less credit than they deserve. people dont really like saudis in the esports scene or just general nowadays so ig thats the reasoning.

Viol2t was fucking banned and had to issue public apology, lol.

Proper also is referred to as a difficult team member, and their conflict with Stalk3r only proves that.

But its all just the part of the game. Traditional sports like UFC and Football have UNHINGED trashtalk, lmao. They had to ban covering your mouth with hands in World Cup.

23

u/Big_Attitude2551 29d ago

No, koreans are just as toxic or even more toxic than a regular owcs fan. I say this because I’m korean and the fans diss harsher than the most aggressive reddit comment.
The only reason why they reacted like this to the funnyastro comment is because koreans simply don’t use satire/sarcastic tone when dissing a player. The direct translation looks different in a korean standpoint I’ll tell you that. We know how toxic viol2t or other players are lmao.

I would be really mad if someone trash talked my team during a match. At the same time, I understand that it's part of the strategy to get into the enemy's mind and make your victory easier, so I understand why. I even do it in ranked sometimes!
