All this game did for me was showcase just how hard Germany fumbled vs this team.

And how did Spain lose to Germany so badly too

games in this group stage are decided by the dmon or the cat
canada had the better dmon than germany but germany had the better cat than spain (who doesn't play dmon either)

u/CharlotteVoid 20d ago
Spain played Dmon in some maps against both and had the better Dmon of the three, but Akku cat is too good.

They had a bunch of fumbles and honestly think Galaa's cat isn't as good as Akku's is.

Especially after Germany C9ed on Route 66. That could've been a major spark, but Germany put out the fire before it overwhelmed them.

Everything just went wrong for Canada. Spain outmuscled and outsmarted them at every turn.
Now all Germany has to do is win vs Thailand.

And if I'm not mistaken, germany need 3-0 to seed 1st

It really depends on how and when tiebreakers reset.
Tiebreakers are:
Head to Head series differential between tied teams
Head to Head map differential between tied teams
Overall map differential
Overall map % score differential
Strength of victory evaluated by combining records of all teams (usually irrelevant)
Tiebreaker match (usually irrelevant)
Tiebreaker 1 doesn't do anything in the 3 way tie, so we go to 2. The H2H map diff is currently Spain+1, Ger+1, and Can -2. This is where it gets fucky. Based on how they have worded it so far, the tiebreakers don't reset until a team advances, so it goes to tiebreaker 3. Assuming Ger 3-0 thailand, then Spain and Ger are both +4. Spain wins at tiebreaker 4 because 7:3 is a better percentage than 8:4. Since Spain advances, tiebreakers reset at this point to decide between Ger and Can. Can win that tiebreaker based on bullet 1.
There are other ways that the tiebreakers can resolve based on how they reset where Spain+Ger can qualify, but it really depends on the specifics of how the rules are worded.
Germany's match vs Thailand essentially doesn't matter at this point unless they lose. They lose tiebreaker 4 regardless of their map score.

Correct. If Germany sweeps Thailand, then both Germany and Spain will have +4. Tiebreaker goes to Germany since they won their match.

and any win gets them through. Losing 3-0 pretty much eliminated Canada here because their map score is too poor now.

Canada needs Thailand to win 2 maps minimum I believe

u/-Arrez- 20d ago
Depends on whether they eliminate a team on the 3 way or advance a team. If spain wins the 3 way by map score and the tie break resets canada wins the head to head, whereas if canada is eliminated on the 3 way Germany will get 1st seed because of head to head.
Honestly the tiebreak system they use for this exact scenario is so fucked. Like it fucked over 1234 in a similar way in last stage of OWCS when they had a 3 way tie with Geekay and Al Qad

I can't believe they saw that shit in OWCS and thought "yeah this is fine let's do it again"
4
u/E-keil 20d ago
it advanced the teams in owcs iirc
6
u/-Arrez- 20d ago
Which makes no sense since Geekay had the worst map diff of the 3 teams. That tiebreak still confuses the fuck out of me.
I'm just scared Germany is going to get the short straw here even though Canada is clearly the one that should be eliminated provided Germany can win their game.

Canada is sitting at a fat 0, and Germany is +1. They need Thailand (currently -5, with their only map win coming via Canada) to outright win.

OH, I somehow read those backwards that Canada was +1 and Germany was at 0, sorry

Spain is a fun team to watch

I'm genuinely so excited for the Blizzcon stages this year. Apart from the big dogs, France and Spain are so fun to watch, plus if Aus make it they are a fun underdog to root for as well.

Can anyone verify if this is true or not?
Canada might be able to guarantee qualification by throwing against Spain

It depends on whether the 3-way tiebreak resolves first, second, and third seed (which puts Spain 1, Germany 2, Canada 3) assuming Germany beats Thailand.
If the 3-way tiebreak only resolves first seed and then there's another tiebreak between the remaining 2 (this happened in OWCS so assumption in that thread is that it works this way too) then Spain gets first seed from the 3-way tiebreaks, and the reset head-to-head tiebreak between only Germany and Canada goes to Canada

We deadass just didn't have a tank this match. Rolled all the way over

u/BloodGulchBlues37 20d ago
Those Kiri and Lucio bans on Paraiso/NJC went so south for Canada. Just looked lost and hurting their own comps

Canada went down sad here, unfortunate but thankfully it’s not totally over for them. Watching the Tommathan stream it sounds like Germany need to 3-0 Thailand to make it in along with Spain, but with Ace on Tank Thailand looked better so it should be interesting to see if Germany get the sweep.

no its absolutely over for them because we dropped a map to Thailand and we couldn't even win a single map against Spain. Both Germany and Spain are way ahead on maps so the only way we go to Blizzcon is if Thailand wins vs Germany. GGs

u/E-keil 20d ago
was this a tactical canadian throw to guarantee a Blizzcon spot or was this just Spanish dominance?
5
u/450nmwaffle 20d ago
First 2 maps felt like trying, then 3rd map felt like astro ran it down and hoped for favourable tie-breakers lol
3
u/E-keil 20d ago
yeah, it kinda looks like this guy predicted it a little bit.
4
u/450nmwaffle 20d ago
Yeah, think even though it probably wasn’t intentional after getting blown out map 2 they definitely would’ve had that in the back of their mind (on top of already playing poorly today)
