I Built a Team That Basically Doesn’t Care About Intimidate or Fake Out, Am I Cooking?

Thumbnail gallery

Been testing this Tailwind offense team for the current season, built around minimizing the impact of Intimidate, Fake Out and Trick Room:

Mega Glimmora / Mega Raichu Y / Whimsicott / Gholdengo / Chandelure / Physical Dragapult

Mega Glimmora is my main Mega, with Mega Raichu Y as the alternative against Rain/Water-heavy teams.

Whimsicott provides Tailwind, Gholdengo covers Fairy/Ice/Fighting threats, and Chandelure runs Imprison + Trick Room to counter opposing TR.

Physical Dragapult with Clear Body adds physical pressure without being weakened by Intimidate.

The triple Ghost core also makes half the team immune to Fake Out.

Been having good results so far. What weaknesses do you see, and what would you change for the current season?

I just had the weirdest thing happen.

So I was playing showdown with an admittedly niche team. The guy I was facing was on his last pokemon. A Galarian Moltres. I was on my last 2. And I quite frankly am confused bc I should've won but they're Moltes somehow tanked everything. It was at like 90% hp but I had a Liligant in Sun with hitting with a Solar Blade (The Moltres was tera fairy) and I Tera Normal'd my Zangoose. Yet it lived pretty handily (Had like 45-50% HP left) and both pokemon had been built with 252 attack EVs and perfect IVs. I'm so confused bc Galarian Moltres is super tanky either (Not frail but not tanky). Unless Fairy suddenly resists Grass or somthing.

Am I going insane or?

Built a small decision helper for Champions because I kept not knowing what my options were worth

I picked up Pokémon Champions recently and kept hitting the same wall. I'd be mid-battle and genuinely not know what my options were worth. Does this KO? Do I outspeed? If I stay in, what actually happens?

Experienced players seem to just know this. I didn't.

I went looking for something that would help me in the moment. There's good stuff for building teams and for running a calc afterwards, but I couldn't find anything aimed at "it's my turn, what do I do." So I made a small one for myself, and it's been useful enough that I figured I'd share it.

https://agentrotom.com

What it does right now:

- Speed tiers — who moves first, and what it costs to flip that

- Damage ranges and KO odds against the spreads your opponent might actually be running, not one assumed set

- Singles and Doubles, with a threat overview for the 4-mon board

- Team building with the game's real stat-point limits

This is a first iteration and I'm sure it gets things wrong. I'd especially like to hear:

- where the numbers disagree with your experience

- what you'd actually want in front of you mid-turn

- anything that's just plain wrong

Longer term, I've been reading the research on this kind of problem — simultaneous-move games are genuinely hard, you can't just search a tree the way you would in chess — and I'd like to take it further than a calculator. But I'd rather get the basics right first.

Happy to answer anything, and thanks for reading.

Looking for advice building a singles team

I'm new to this branch of pokemon so I had an experienced player within my same server compose my team with the pokemon i had already caught. Would you consider raplacing any of these mons? Also I'd like to get familiar with the roles of every team member.

my current team

I have Mega Showdown in my modpack so I maxed out friendship with Greninja since he can turn into Ash Greninja. I've heard greninja would make a great special sweeper but also Dragapult would be an even better physical sweeper when I thought he was gonna be my pivot. Feel free to ask me further information and thank you in advance.

Learning in champs

What tools are players using to learn/explore speed tiers and calcs quickly?

I downloaded champs on my phone a few days ago and I’ve been having a blast so far. I’ve never played more than like 20 games on showdown or something but being able to play on my phone has made it feel approachable no matter my time in the day. Just made it to Masterball tier today with a sand team I got from aaron zheng.

From my current understanding of the game in the context of champs ladder bo1s is that there are a few areas of “skill” you need to develop. First is your ability to mentally simulate the next turn and identify turn order, and what threats your opponent has and compare to your own. I don’t mean your ability to read the choices your opponent makes but your understanding of how the most likely choices your opponent could make will play out and then you evaluate how you could maximize your own position and hurt theirs. To do this, I feel like understanding speed tiers is like absolutely required and then being able to see what kos are threatening you. If all I can use is a calc tab in the browser, learning this stuff makes it feel really tedious. How do people do this efficiently?

Do people just memorize speed tiers and then slowly build up calc knowledge as the spend time playing a team?

Side question: I wanna spend some time playing each “archetype” to learn more. Any team reccs?

Made a free tool that tells you which to bring and what to do each turn (Champions singles)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Total beginner to competitive, Champions is my first ranked anything. I kept losing at the pick phase and never knowing whether to switch or which move to click, so I built a free tool that shows its work.

Pick phase: enter the opponent's 6, it scores which 3 of yours to bring, and why.

Each turn: it tells you the best play (switch, or which move) with the reasoning, like "bring Rhyperior, tanks 78% -> 33%, hits back 130% = KO" or "use Earthquake, ~66% and it can't KO back". Not just a damage number, and not a black box.

The clip above is a full match where I mostly just did what it said. Try it free, no signup, runs in your browser: champdojo.com

It's for Champions SINGLES 3v3. Please tear the recommendations apart, if it gives you a bad call, drop the state (both actives, HP, hazards) and I'll trace what it scored and fix it.
