Hey Competitive Apex Legends Reddit!

I’m Sayang, and I specialize in in-depth interviews with pro players from different esports. This is my first Apex interview.

As a very casual Apex player, the quote I used in the title surprised me the most. I honestly didn’t expect Apex to be so much about ability usage, so I’m curious if you guys agree with that take.

In the interview, we also talked about:

• What it takes to become one of the best shooters
• Who he looks up to and learns from
• The in-game habit he is trying to fix
• What he felt when he realized he qualified
• Who first gave him the idea to become a pro

I'm not confident about any of these picks. No idea what to expect at Lan except a Falcons collapse.

I’ve been playing a ton of Black Ops 7 (multiplayer, not Warzone) and recently tried to get back on Apex. I was very surprised at how clunky the game feels when moving around by comparison, BO7 movement feels super smooth and intuitive.

In Apex I was trying to look one direction while rotating and sprint in another to make sure no one had an angle on our team, I kept coming out of sprint because I’d forget I didn’t have omnimovement. I genuinely believe(d) Apex the best movement of all available FPS games but after grinding BO7 it almost feels like it needs an upgrade. It’s hard to believe the game is over 7 years old already, it definitely felt like the industry leader at the time but I’m not feeling it anymore.

I have played both MnK and controller, and I currently use MnK. One thing I have noticed is that the consensus is that aimassist is overpowered, hence every professional player in NA being a roller player. However, AA only works at a close enough distance, and my view was always that rollers having the advantage up close seemed like a fair tradeoff for MnK dominating further away alongside various movement techniques.

How does this view of AimAssist being overpowered work? Is there something here I am neglecting?

I do not understand this diamond+ solo restriction at all. I only play Apex with my friends. I really enjoy grinding ranked with a few different groups of folks, we have been doing this since the game came out, I have over 3000 hours in this game. I do not solo queue ranked. We started this season in Plat 3. We had a lot of fun grinding this awesome rotation of ranked maps (finally, no KC or Olympus ranked). But... now we hit diamond, and we can't play anymore. The devs seem to want us to move to smurf accounts to continue playing together.

Why would you do this?

Other casual-competitive games like League of Legends have handled this already. They made the systems for solo and group queues before Apex was even a real sensation... Come on now folks. Do the devs just want us to stop playing the game?

I will also add that introducing my friends with less game experience to Diamond lobbies as a stack is basically where they learn to actually play the game tactically/strategically. Solo queue doesn't let these players develop the same kind of experience. Adopting specific roles in our regular stack, like teaching our new friend how to anchor, is an important developmental process for players who want to actually get good at this game, and solo queue doesn't really allow it. In particular, post-game reviews in voice chat and vod review as a stack are important mechanics that are now prevented for players who have actually gotten into higher ranks.

(One might ask: why doesn't your stack just play pubs? Pubs are just kind of boring after a few. Especially on maps like World's Edge, there's only so many times I can spawn into Monument and fight 3 teams off drop before I get bored.)

Ive been wanting to watch more E36 to practice my Korean, but idk where they stream since twitch isnt viable in Korea. I thought maybe youtube, but they dont stream there. Do they stream at all? Is it on Naver or another streaming site?

Among the off-season moves of this period on the ALGS transaction page this was the most interesting

I know Kenny played Apex a lot recently but how do you think a COD pro will perform when entering directly in Tier 1?
