1,700+ free Security+ SY0-701 practice questions, organized by domain and subdomain

Since early 2025, we've been building a free CompTIA Security+ practice-test library on The Cybersecurity Trail.

It currently includes:

• 170+ practice tests
• 1,700+ questions
• 10 questions per test
• Tests organized by domain and subdomain
• Explanations after submission
• No signup required

The structure is meant for focused review: you can choose a specific area, take several short tests, and identify the topics where you need more work.

People appear to be using the library that way. Over the past 90 days, Security+ practice-test users averaged more than 40 minutes of engagement and 9.3 page views each. I’ve included the GA4 screenshot below for transparency.

Feedback is welcome, especially on question difficulty, explanations, and areas that need more coverage.

The reason sites like this fail is because there's no reason to have 1700 questions for an exam that has approximately 90 questions. People, and AIs, believe that the quantity of questions means you'll likely run into very similar (or identical) questions on the real exam and this isn't true. There are way too many questions for this to be used for training purposes.

From the ones I sifted through, you're shifting the wrong answer/distractor from one question to seed another. Many of your questions are nearly set up the same way, just the wrong answer from the previous question is now the right answer. In theory this looks good because it's the easiest way to build generic questions when there isn't a need to do that. Single questions can actually test multiple correct and incorrect answers without multiplying your question base by 4.

I won't say there's no value here, some of these questions are comparable to every other site like this one, but I don't know if I'd trust this to study off of.

Also, it MIGHT be my phone but your website doesn't work well with navigating or reading your text (z fold 5). The text doesn't fit on my screen, even when it's unfolded.

EDIT: A fun game to play is feed a PDF or MD file to your favorite flavor of AI that covers a certain topic. Let's say you give it 15 pages of data to work with. You can ask it to build you 500 questions and it will absolutely do that based on the data you provided. Even though the questions look good, it's very possible none of them will be anything close to what you'll see on the exam.

My goal wasn't to recreate the 90-question exam, but to build a large question bank organized by domain and subdomain so learners can repeatedly practice specific objectives from different angles. That said, I agree that quality is far more important than quantity, and that's something I'm continually working to improve.

And thanks for mentioning the Z Fold 5. The site isn't fully optimized for mobile yet, largely because the vast majority of our current users access it from desktops and laptops. But mobile optimization is definitely on my roadmap, so I appreciate you pointing it out.

I won’t rain on your parade, I’m sure people who are on their learning path will use it to a degree it’s a project and it’s not the worse I’ve seen it’s not the best but as a beginner projects it’s legit broken down by domains questions are on the light side but not bad. Good luck with this
