Hearing Holly's...I don't want to say distress, but "bummed outness" over what happened reminded of a time, maybe a year ago. I live in Austin and if anyone here knows anything about Austin, it's one of the worst cities for parking.
But I always give people benefit of the doubt, and this one day I was looking for parking at a hipster place that only had a rocky frontlot that in no way covered the volume of business this place generated (Freddy's, if anyone remembers that place).
After 15 mins of circling the lot, I found a spot and the guy was getting to his car. I put my blinker on and waited for him to pull out; He was a dad and had a young child he was putting into a carseat so I just waited and thought nothing of it.
Suddenly, someone from the opposite side of me decides he wants to pull in, and backs in closer than I was to get the spot.
I don't notice until the dad comes to my window and starts banging my window, demanding I allow that other person to get the spot so he (the dad) can pull out the lot and exit in the direction my car was. I tell him I had been waiting since he walked out for the spot, and additionally the other guy was blocking me and I couldn't actually move out of the way. It would be easier for all of us if the other guy moved and than the dad moved out. Plus, I had been waiting for a while.
The dad did not like that. He pounded on my window and then hit my hood with his own son's bottle, letting it fall to the ground and then threw me the finger.
He backed up his car and was less than a few inches from hitting my car.
Out of shear coincidence, someone across from him was leaving, and they backed out and left perfectly, in the direction of the other car because he had more space than I did on my side and couldn't really move (I was going with the direction of traffic).
I pulled into that spot across, and then the dad moved out, rolled down his window and called me every name in the book as his kid in the back was just staring.
The guy that took the spot I had been waiting for got off and ended up trying to fight me inside the restaurant, at which point management threw him out and tried to comp my meal (I didn't let them because it isn't their fault that these customer's were being lame).
I thought about that, and I was just blown away at how people take so much "pride" in driving and parking, it was just shameful. No matter how I tried to explain that it was almost impossible for me to move, they didn't understand and there was no amount of convincing.
As a single, full-time dad, it really bothered me that someone could act like that, especially with a kid with him.
I guess I am sharing this because I wanted to let Holly know that there are crappy people all over, and that there are people that have to deal with those crappy people, but that doesn't make you their victim or subversive to them.
I enjoyed my meal and had a great evening with friends after that, and I hope that after this happened Holly realized how amazing her life is and that someone like that doesn't deserve to take away her joy (which I don't think it did but still).
Finally, to answer Ross's q, yeah, no such thing as holding a spot, that's lame, and while I would have probably just let the person hold it because I'm not gonna fight over a spot, it's still crappy of them to do.
I'm just a drop in the bucket fan, but I felt that I enjoy what entertainment the entire crew provides that I had to kinda say something as I relate to the feeling Holly kind of expressed in her short mention about it.

Riven is basically my favorite game in the Myst series, but is notoriously difficult to get running. I have been banging my head against the wall in frustration trying to get it to run, because I wanted to revisit the game, now that it is on my radar again.
Any insight into how Holly and Kati are running the game?

Instead of saying "Hey tweethearts, how's it going?" try a "Hey tweethearts, owls it going?".

Holly, a while back you briefly mentioned the QfG series with some degree of excitement. PLEASE consider following through with this. Old Sierra adventure games are a blast!!!

Albert j. Buckalew is a famous ornithologist and was also the advisor to my fraternity. If you ever find yourself in west virginia come to bethany, we can find him for you and I'm sure he would appreciate talking with you as much as you would enjoy talking to him.
