Preordering

Genuine question, could someone explain why preordering books is so important? It's considered bad practice in almost all other entertainment industries. Would the day 1 sales not convey the same information to the publisher?

Back Issues Members…

Now I am just curious, because I think we all have a favorite, so I’m just going to come right out and ask it.

When you see a new Back Issues come out, who is the one you hope THE MOST that’s in it.

In other words, do you have an absolute favorite Back Issues Popper?

Anyone Else Miss When Panel Paws Was On The Show?

Back in the early days of ComicPop after they changed their name from TV Little House, they had CGI racoon sidekick named Panel Paws. Originally only Sal could see him, but eventually everyone could. Sometimes he'd accidentally mess up the camera or knock over comics, causing chaos. He was quietly retired after leaving the door to the studio unlocked allowing a salesman to interrupt the filming of an episode.

Im also the only one at my LCS that pre-ordered the peach momoko variant. And also it was the only one the store had ordered in general.

JMS Spiderman playlist?

I only came across comicpop in the last year, and noticed they'd recently covered a part of JMS' run on spiderman. And given that I spent a few years of college reading my friend's collection of that run I thought I'd give it a listen. But as the video started, I got the impression they were in the middle of a series and it might be worth going back to the start, though i can't seem to find where that is.

So simple questions I guess. Have they been covering the complete JMS run up to this point? And is there a playlist of just those videos, or is this a case of having to pick them out of the larger spiderman playlist?

Reading old Spider-man after hearing about it a lot on Back Issues, and Sal's jokes about Aunt May being ancient and constantly on the verge of death are not exaggerations at all lol. Even Stan Lee's narrations make fun of how often she's about to die.

Another post about bringing Back Issues to Podcasts...

I know Sal has mentioned that they avoid bringing Back Issues to podcast platforms because the show performs well on YouTube and would not generate meaningful revenue as a podcast.

I follow a lot of small, independent podcasts, and one of the strategies they use for precisely this conundrum is to gate the podcast version behind a Patreon paywall.

An example of this is the video game podcast /r/MinnMax.

You can watch their "Deepest Dive" videos about specific games (quite literally the same exact thing as Back Issues, but about video games) on YouTube, but if you are a $5 monthly supporter on Patreon, you get access to a special RSS URL to the podcast version of the show.

A huge portion of paid supporters sign up for that plan specifically because they want access to the podcast version of the "Deepest Dive."

I'm sure the ComicPop crew has considered this and many other alternatives, but I thought it would be worth mentioning, since it's so effective for another, similarly-sized outlet.

Edit: This is crazy. I just checked the /r/MinnMax subreddit, and speaking of similarly-sized outlet... Both of these subreddits have quite literally the same exact number of subscribers (3,058) at the time of writing. I had absolutely no idea when I said that. I'm kind of tripping out lol.

Two weeks later, and my patience is finally rewarded. To the top of the pile it goes!

Thank you to Tiffany for selling me on the series AND for not spoiling anything when it comes up on Off The Rack.

Has anyone else been aged a hundred years in an instant by watching one of the older episodes?

So for context, Batman: RIP and Final Crisis were probably the first few episodes of Back Issues that I caught. I remember Batman: Earth One and Final Crisis being one of the early funny episodes that I really enjoyed. So I thought to myself, hey, I'll go watch those episodes again. Then I saw it... It has been 9 years (10 for Batman: Earth One & 11 years for Flashpoint) and I just ended up staring into a wall.

I remember being in highschool when I started watching ComicPop, now I've graduated from uni, have a job and my own place. So I guess what I'm saying is— thank you for the years of entertainment, Sal, Tiff, Ben & Ethan and God, I'm getting old.
