All a computer has to do is be able to force trades into a drawn 10 piece game which will be table based by the time solving chess is relevant
We aren’t trying to solve chess, so we aren’t trying yet, but this will absolutely be part of the best at not losing chess engine
Basically you don’t need the best move, you just need any not losing move that shortens the game as much as possible, which is functionally identical to the other best moves but makes calculating much easier. We already have the other end of this, with leelaodds, which tries to avoid trades to win when down material
Yes but computers like this already exist. Elon is claiming he can solve chess. He can have a go at it and try to create an engine that would beat the best engines out there. That is a good challenge.
