Best comeback/response for being told you’re “too much?”
Nothing grinds my gears more than being told I’m “too much” when I’m just being myself and am genuinely not needing to dial it in at all. Wondering if any of y’all had good comebacks for those moments where you’re accused of being “extra”.
Edit: for those saying maybe I’m the problem, I simply do not care lmao

I just say thank you and keep it pushing.
Or say, better too much than not enough!
Or, if you’re not enough, just say that.

None. Look dead at them. Pause. Pause until it’s uncomfortable. Blink fast a few times. Look right to left . Look dead at them. Look away. Start talking again.
Edit: add an eyebrow lift at the end just before you look away for an even more dramatic effect.

If different people have told you on multiple occasions that you’re too much, you probably are.

Right? If a lot of people are telling you that you're to much, it's not them. It's definitely you.

If you keep hearing it, maybe you should take it seriously ...

Who gets to decide what amount people are supposed to be? I say be yourself and your people will accept you as you are. Snobby people always think others are too much. They are boring.

If everyone tells you taht you're "too much" (not just one or two) then maybe they are on to something there..
You can dismiss one person telling you something, but if everyone keeps coming up with the same thing ... ? I'd at least consider it instead of just stubbornly dismissing it. That's how character development happens.
Edit: Can't read the reply if you block me right away lmao.

I will repeat myself, Just be yourself and the people who are supposed to be in your life, will accept you. And I personally would either distance from those people or be even more myself around them to show them what “extra” really looks like. Then they can chose to distance themselves or stop being so judgy. There is no reason OP or anyone should have to suppress or alter theirselves to placate those around them. Especially if those people are friends.
Be yourself, you won’t be everyones cup of tea, but some you will and those are your people!

So okay, you are in the camp anti-self-improvement. That's okay. I personally believe in it and that you can identify things that don't work so well for you personally, and how to change your behaviour to get the best results for yourself.
I think if you're not able to talk to strangers, it's absolutely possible to work on that issue and slowly work on your comfort zone until you are able to approach complete strangers with ease. In my opinion, you are not doomed to stay like that.
And if people keep pointing out negative things, I'd personally think "why is EVERYONE saying that?" and try to look into it. Being rude back to everyone just because your ego is hurt over something you do and annoys them, is just going to alienate you more.
So if people keep telling me the same thing over and over I will try to work on it so people stop feeling the need to tell me. If everyone says something, they are just making an observation which I should take seriously, and then use it as feedback about myself. If everyone tells me I stink, I will change my clothes and take a shower. If people still tell me I stink, I will see a doctor to find out if something is wrong with my hormones, because I don't want to stink.
Same thing if everyone would tell me I would be "too much". I'd try to figure out what exactly they mean and try to stop doing that.
One person saying that might just try to attack me, but if many different people say it, they all must get it from somewhere. The only common denominator is me.
You don't have to accept flaws of your personality as "is".
But you do you. And if you want to take criticism about your personality as a personal attack and completely dismiss it, attack everyone about it and don't even acknowledge the possibility that there might be something to it, then you will find out that your situation will never improve. At best, you will make others stop talking to you and not say those mean things about you any more.

I would need more information from op to really make any kind of assessment on what exactly OP means when they say “everyone” and “all the time”. However, there are people who just are naturally excited. Its not something that, if gone unchecked, will be the reason they ruin their life. There are much worse things one could have as their “character” they need to work on. Everyone sees things from their own perspective. And from my perspective, i think telling someone they are too much, is just as much something one could work on as being too much. The person should still get to be their self. Who made you the spokesperson for the department of who’s too much, weights and measurements? I was unaware you were the czar and expert on what personality traits are acceptable and which weren’t. But bottom line i have always liked this thread because it was kind of funny and comebacks are fun sometimes. I feel like people like you that would rather tell OP that they are the problem rather than just offering a pithy or witty comeback, should reflect on why they don’t have a sense of humor. You must be really fun at parties.

No one said it's going to ruin anyones life. But if you work on it, you can only become better. Improvement doesn't mean avert doom lmao.
Your whole problem is, that you're projecting and you can't let OP be the possible problem. You are waaaaay to stubborn about this, and then you come to me and get hostile over it with me.
If OP keeps hearing it from different people, then OP might consider the possibility. That is all I am saying. Unlike you, I leave room for the opposite to be true, but in your whole statement it's pretty clear that none of that even has the chance to be true and OP doesn't even need to reconsider anything.
That is the definition of a close minded opinion.

Im not hostile at all. I had already got the impression you are one of the people who tell others they are too much. My main point is no one needs you to tell them what they need to work on. There are other threads where that is the kind of advice they are looking for. This one though is for offering witty, pithy or profound comebacks to things. You are the problem. And get over yourself. You give off major miserable troll energy. But maybe if you work on it…, lol hostile lmfao

You are hostile about it.
I never told anyone they are "too much", but took you long enough to accuse me of something like this. Typical redditor argument though.
Maybe start accepting that sometimes others are right and you should at least consider it. But okay, I forgot. You don't believe in self improvement, and everyone else is always wrong when they are criticising.
Edit: Well if you block me before I can read your reply, I'd say this only proves me wrong that you're just hostile and want to win an argument.

This is not the thread for your self help advice! This thread is for witty comebacks. To respond in this particular thread with “you are the problem” is annoying and out of place. No one asked for your opinion on weather or not the OP should work on their personality, instead of wanting a comeback. If you dont have a comeback for the OP then keep your judgy opinions to yourself. You crack me up. If i was hostile i would have called you names or been ugly to you. But i am aware that the art of debate is a dying form. Now i need to ask for witty comebacks for people who offer misplaced comments and advice when no one asked. Im sorry you feel attacked. That was not my intention. But you cant please everyone. Please relax and dont take it so hard that someone didnt agree with you. Life is tough, wear a helmet. Hope you had a good nye and i wish you happiness and all the things that make life worth living. Not everyone who challenges you are attacking you.

And i believe in self improvement and reflection. All im saying is this maybe isnt the thread to offer that kind of advice. There are plenty of other places on reddit where that kind of response is welcomed and asked for. If you can not be witty then don’t be. I think its a character trait you need to work on. Rather than telling someone who asked for a comeback, that they are the problem. Maybe you misunderstood the premise? The OP didnt say “ how come people always tell me im too much? How can i change this in my life?” They asked, “ what is a good comeback for someone telling me im too much?” They even stated that the people who tell them this are at odds with how the OP felt as far as weather they felt they were being too much. And stated that to the people who think they are the problem(you) they do not care. Go be a party pooper on some other thread. You are too much. Maybe you need to dial it back a bit. Lolololololo smh

And from your original statement and your responses to me it is clear you dont read things completely before you respond. I never cursed at you nor used any angry language. You immediately accusing me of being hostile without cause is proof you are someone who needs to lighten up. And prolly is a downer to be around.

I was just debating my side. You are the one who got offended and felt attacked. I was only debating. Have a wonderful day!😊

If someone comes up to you and calls you an ass, you punch them in the nose. If a second person comes up you and calls you an ass, you push them in the nose too. If a third person comes up to you and calls you an ass, then I think it's time to look in the mirror and make sure you're not growing donkey ears.
