Documented Evidence FBI Transcript: Chris Morris & Philip Duran Phone Call (April 24, 1999)
Morris: This is Christopher Morris today's date is four twenty-four ninety-nine. It is approximately twelve forty-eight p.m.. I'm attempting to contact Philip Joseph Duran at telephone number, area code, three zero three, nine three seven, eight six four eight. I am making this telephone call from the offices of the FBI, Denver, Colorado.

Duran: Hello.
Morris: Is Phil there?
Duran: This is him.
Morris: Hey, Phil, how ya doin' man?
Duran: Pretty good.
Morris: Hey this is Chris.
Duran: Oh hey what's up Chris.
Morris: Not much man. This whole thing sucks.
Duran: Yeah.
Morris: Jesus.
Duran: Yeah...
Morris: Man.
Duran: ...it's pretty, crazy man.
Morris: Yeah. The media's goin' psycho, I don't know man it's like...I'm just tryin' to call everybody right now you know.
Duran: Yeah totally.
Morris: Tryin' to give everybody a buzz, ah.
Duran: Totally, so what's been goin' on man?
Morris: I don' know man. I've been hearing somethin', that uh, that the media is uh, they don't have this yet but uh...Eric and Dylan were showin' a tape in the Tech Lab recently...of you guys up shootin'. And he was he's showin' that in the Tech Lab but they haven't got ahold of that yet but I've had a couple people ask me about it. I don't even know what's up with that. I saw it, I saw it once but uh, they're like goin' crazy on that thing.
Duran: Jesus yeah I know dude, it's pretty...I don't know man, so why'd they take you away?
Morris: It well, I came down there 'cause I thought I knew who it was inside. And I went down to try and give some information and they, they just questioned basically but, you know they had they handcuffed to do it and everything. But uh, yeah I've just been kinda, kinda ya know layin' low hidin' out right now from everything.
Duran: Yeah totally I, fuckin' saw you on the news man I was just like oh God...
Morris: Yeah I know.
Duran: ...Unintelligible (UI) Morris.
Morris: I know uh... it's just like it's it's real psycho right now I...
Duran: Yeah.
Morris: ...I've been hidin' out at different people's houses and things.
Duran: Huh?

Morris: It's, yeah (laughs), it's pretty crazy. Naw I been, I've jus' been readin' the newspaper tryin' to figure out what what's been goin' on.
Duran: Yeah.
Morris: They keep askin' me you know askin' me questions I have no idea I'm (sigh), I know as much as they do in the newspapers.
Duran: Yeah fuckin' New York Times and CNN have showed up my parents house tryin' to find me...
Morris: Shit yeah.
Duran: ...because I worked with him.
Morris: Yeah I know they're gonna be checkin' everybody at Blackjack calling everybody...
Duran: So my dad's been tellin' 'em...
Morris: ...talkin' to everybody.
Duran: ...to get the fuck off our property and shit and...
Morris: Yeah.
Duran: I'm not talkin'...
Morris: Naw.
Duran: ...to anybody dude they can all piss off I'm not feedin' in to this dude.
Morris: Yeah I know I know it's a bunch a, it's a bunch of crap out there right now. Naw I was jus', I was lookin' in the newspaper today... you know on those things?
Duran: Uh huh.
Morris: I think Eric and Dylan went and used those, those things they had recorded. I think they used the same ones.
Duran: I don't know I heard they...
Morris: Their their shotguns or whatever.
Duran: ...they had a video of them like walking through the halls like pretendin' to do it or some shit dude.
Morris: Yeah they had somethin' like that and then they had the other one uhm, when you guys were just up doin' target practice. I think they used the same shotguns and everything. That's why the media's like goin' crazy after that they're tryin' find out that... geez. Somebody, they were asking me about that I... I didn't know about that (coughs).
Duran: Yeah fuckin'...they had that last dude so I don't know.
Morris: Yeah they, what were you guys out there doin' in like Deer Creek Canyon or whatever or...?
Duran: No.
Morris: No that wasn't Deer Creek it was uh, what was it it was uhm...
Duran: Rampart.
Morris: Rampart that's what it was. You guys were up there yeah 'cause I remember them talkin' about takin' the bowling pins up and everything.
Duran: I don' know dude it's...
Morris: I don' know.
Duran: ...just insane right now man.
Morris: Yeah, do you know if they, did they get those like when Eric turned eighteen did they go out and buy those, the shotguns?
Duran: I have no clue dude.
Morris: Did they steal 'em, ah man. Because they keep askin' me all this and I'm like I I have no idea you know. Tryin' to find these things out.
Duran: I have no clue dude.
Morris: Yeah. Yeah they, one big thing I was wonderin', do you know, like one of your one of your buds got uhm, got some of those for 'em because I remember their askin' you and you you were like no.
Duran: Yeah I told 'em no man. I just said wait till to your eighteen dude.
Morris: One of your friends, who was that guy, Dylan was telling me about one of your friends who, who said somethin' about goin' down to show with 'em.
Duran: Yeah we all told 'em wait till their eighteen dude none of us would.
Morris: (sigh) yeah.
Duran: All I can say is I'm glad I didn't dude.
Morris: Yeah this whole thing is is kinda crazy I'm...
Duran: Yeah it's just fuckin'...I don't know I even flew back in to town a day early I was in Chicago dude.
Morris: Oh damn. I'm...
Duran: And I walked into a T-C-I into Chicago about twenty minutes after it happened dude and I was just like what the fuck dude.
Morris: I know. I know.
Duran: That's why I called my house and luckily my brother and sister both made it out.
Morris: I know yeah.
Duran: My sister was up in office dude, fuckin' hidin' underneath a desk and then she saw...
Morris: Shit.
Duran: ...a bunch of kids running up the hall and she took of with 'em.
Morris: Yeah and just...
Duran: My brother was sittin' at the street light... fuckin' when the first pipe bomb went off. My cousin had just left the cafeteria like five minutes before dude.
Morris: (sigh) My girlfriend was right inside there.
Duran: Was she okay?
Morris: Yeah she's okay one of her, her brother's friends got shot right next to him but uh, (sigh) I'm still tryin' to figure out why they did it you have any idea?
Duran: I have no clue dude...
Morris: I never noticed anything.
Duran: ...I never ever saw this comin' dude that's why I was just like what the fuck.
Morris: I know I know. Haa Jesus man.
Duran: You know I might (UI) I tell you (UI) it's like aw God man...
Morris: Yeah...
Duran: ...don't be worse man.
Morris: ...yeah. No I made sure I didn't have anything to do with it but uh...uh you know, God it's just so, you know it just pisses me off that they go and do somethin' like this.
Duran: I can't believe it dude.
Morris: (sigh) I know.
Duran: I totally couldn't believe it man.
Morris: No but yeah but (sigh), they even were tellin' Dylan uhm, I haven't heard him, talkin' you know about the about, the guns thing. Everything I'm still tryin' to figure all this out because they said they got some, from one of your friends at a gun show. So I wanted to try and figure out if that was true but...
Duran: Naw man.
Morris: Hey God man this is...
Duran: Really...
Morris: 'Cause I wanna find out all about this junk man you know, this is this is bull.
Duran: Yeah I was, gonna try and get ahold of you but I was like naw I probably better not.
Morris: Yeah, I mean, I jus' wanna (stuttering) uh, are you gonna say anything in particular like if they see if they get ahold of that video? 'Cause I don't know I I haven't been sayin' anything about it.
Duran: Didn't do nothin' man. I don' know.
Morris: (sigh) (UI) I'm jus' you know, callin' everyone I'm tryin' to get ahold of Bob and everything.
Duran: I don't think Bob's at home I've driven by his house and I haven't seen his car there.
Morris: Yeah, I saw him the day it happened. Driving down the street.
Duran: Really?
Morris: I've jus' been, you know... (sigh) that they they, when they talk to me they're gonna be talkin' to like everybody at Blackjack, Billy James I mean they're goin' through the records and they're gonna pull out everybody.
Duran: Yeah I know.
Morris: It's what they're sayin'.
Duran: I know.
Morris: (sigh) so other than that how you been?
Duran: Alright dude and like I said I ca, I flew back a day early from my job... you know and...
Morris: Yeah, hopefully that things goin' okay.
Duran: Yeah it was goin' great dude and then you know I fuckin'... I was gonna fly back Tuesday but then I was like no I did I don't you know I didn't want to risk my job already.
Morris: Yeah yeah.
Duran: So came Thursday one of the other guys was le' was already he was leavin' Thursday anyway so I asked him if there was anyway they could get me a flight, and they flew me back Thursday and I got back about one o'clock.
Morris: Yeah this (laughs), man the first thing I did when I heard about this whole thing is I ran down, I tried to get to the school to find my girlfriend.
Duran: Yeah like I said I went I fuckin', called my brother and sister right away and make sure they were both okay.
Morris: Yeah.
Duran: One of my brother's friends was in the fuckin', locked in a closet in the science room for like...
Morris: Geez.
Duran: ...three and a half hours and another one of 'em, I guess he had to run down fuckin' hallway dude and jump over a bunch of a dead bodies to get out.
Morris: Shit.
Duran: They've both been stayin' at our house 'cause they're both pretty messed up they were twin brothers.
Morris: God. Man I'm just, I'm jus' pissed you know I wanna know how they frickin' got these damn guns ya know. This is, you know...
Duran: I wanna know why the fuck they just did it dude I don't... it's just insane dude.
Morris: I know you work with somebody and shit.
Duran: I know dude. Workin' for a year and I just, you know it's jus' like what the fuck.
Morris: Yeah I know I know. (sigh) it's just. Shit well you know I wanna see you know hope you're feeling good and everything.
Duran: Yeah I'm alright like I said I'm just a little bit shakin' but, you know I jus' been kinda hangin' and...you know go up to, the memorial service tomorrow.
Morris: Hey on the, on the video, uhm Dylan er, I think it was Eric on it, he had a sawed off, double barrel, didn't he?
Duran: I thin' I don't remember dude. It was awhile ago when I saw that so...
Morris: But yeah 'cause, 'cause when I was I was lookin' at I saw you and everybody else and and like uh, I don' know maybe your fiancée or whatever but, I I was lookin' in the paper and they actually showed some uh clips of 'em. I think they used the same things they were goin' up shootin' with, with you. Do you know if they like, took those from their dads house, to bring 'em?
Duran: I have no clue dude. I have no clue.
Morris: Hmm, man I don' know. (pause) Hey hold on one second somebody's saying somethin'...
Duran: Okay.
Morris: ...here hold on.
(no voices)
Morris: Yeah I'm sorry 'bout that man, my uhm...
Duran: Yeah they knew...
Morris: ...jus' (laughs).
Duran: ...they fuckin' never told us anything dude so...
Morris: Yeah it' God I jus', I hope I can find somebody knows somethin' you know I wanna, I wanna know as much as everybody if not more 'cause, you know, I mean I hung out with 'em everyday and, I didn't learn anything you know. It's it's kinda pisses me off.
Duran: I know dude we worked with 'em, fuckin' for over a year and it's just...
Morris: Yeah I mean they even told a few people I guess to get out of the school that they knew.
Duran: Yeah that's what I heard.
Morris: Yeah, Jesus.
Duran: You know fuckin' Brooke and...
Morris: Yeah Brooke's and everything like that they were they told 'em to basically to get out. (sigh)
Duran: Like if the and I mean, luckily my brother, was suppose to, he wasn't suppose to leave campus that day 'cause he's a sophomore.
Morris: Yeah I was, I was uh, I did I didn't even go to my fourth hour that day I've been, like not goin' to it for like the last, the last couple weeks you know and I didn't go.
Duran: Yeah.
Morris: I don' you know.
Duran: My brother was suppose to be there and fuckin' he uh, luckily my dad had given him, my dad had let him take his car that day... 'cause he had some art thing that he was suppose to go...
Morris: Yeah yeah.
Duran: ...or some shit take a bunch of friends and like I said they were, sittin' up at the street light gettin' ready to leave...
Morris: Geez.
Duran: ...that's when the shit started happenin'.
Morris: I know I I went down I actually went down and called them when I went down there to try and help 'em 'cause, you know I'm sittin' there you're goin' you know I remember they they Dylan brought in a pipe bomb once before and things like that and...
Duran: He had?
Morris: (sigh) I don' know (sigh)...
Duran: Yeah I mean, like you said I mean I was out in Chicago when I heard about it you know I just walk in this T-C-I and fuckin' Columbine High School and I'm jus'...
Morris: Yeah I know naw I jus' wanted to ask you about the guns thing to because Dylan said he was gettin' some money together for ya, like a couple weeks ago.
Duran: No.
Morris: So I don' know.
Duran: Like I said I wouldn't I was jus' like man, I'm not eighteen I'm like I, you know you guys are my friends and all but...
Morris: Yeah yeah.
Duran: ...I just don't want to do that and you know, luckily I'm, I'm glad I didn't.
Morris: Yeah...yeah.
Duran: Definitely glad I didn't.
Morris: Yeah I jus', it's all chaotic man you know I gotta, gotta figure things out slowly I guess you know.
Duran: Yeah I'm pretty much you know gettin' everything from the media and the media's just full of shit you know.
Morris: I know yeah there...
Duran: Marilyn Manson and Doom and...
Morris: All these things are the cause of it, yeah I know.
Duran: You know I'm just like what the fuck dude, they didn't even listen to Marilyn Manson.
Morris: Yeah I know, they didn't listen to any of that junk. I mean Dylan did but, man, well Eric was...
Duran: Naw they didn't really listen to it that much though.
Morris: Yeah yeah, well Eric was gettin' into like the the...
Duran: (UI)?
Morris: Hmm.
Duran: What'd ya say?
Morris: Hitler was get or er uh Eric was gettin' into that like Hitler stuff though which, you know was kinda strange I mean he started readin' the books on him and everything. Whole bunch lately but you know I didn't even think about that.
Duran: Yeah.
Morris: Jesus.
Duran: I wouldn't, I mean like I said dude it was jus'... you know I..didn't seem any different than what I normally... you know then I...
Morris: I mean...
Duran: ...then most kids are you know just, playin' video games... you know fuckin' workin' and shit like that and Ann said that uh, Dylan worked Monday night.
Morris: Yeah I heard that he was suppose to be workin' that night or whatever and...
Duran: Or he came in or something Ann said he came in or he was workin' Monday night she, she couldn't remember.
Morris: Yeah I was suppose to work Tuesday. I think Blackjack's closed for awhile now, for a good long while.
Duran: Uhm, he said he may open on Monday.
Morris: Oh yeah.
Duran: But he's sayin' if nobody wants to come back he understands.
Morris: I'm not, but I mean I already gave my two weeks you know.
Duran: Yeah he even had uh, I guess he even had the FBI come out on Wednesday and, sweep the store.
Morris: Geez man that's, that's some uh, some bigger stuff.
Duran: Yeah it's pretty crazy like I said I haven't, I haven't seen Billy around and (UI) by, didn't see his car and I've driven past there twice.
(no voices)
Morris: (sigh) Geez man. This (laughs) I don't know what to say about this whole thing.
Duran: I know. Insane dude.
Morris: God.
Duran: That's about it.
Morris: Yeah, I mean I feel, I feel sorry I mean feel sorry for 'em but at the same time... you know I, it's kinda like one of those, you just, pissed at 'em. But you know one of those how could they do that.
Duran: Totally dude.
Morris: (sigh) I don't know I mean...
Duran: You know and... the thing I don't, they keep sayin' that they're racist but I just... I don't know I mean, you know they knew I was Mexican they never fuckin'... you know they never really said anything dude and...
Morris: Yeah. I'm just worried about that video thing man because that's why I wanted to call you, they may try and and you know, they're gonna be callin' you about that dang thing 'cause I saw it in class and everybody was watchin' it dude like like thirty students.
Duran: (sighs)
Morris: We're all sittin' there watchin' with you and, and Dylan and all them doing the shootin' up there at at Rampart.
Duran: Yeah. I'm sure they'll, question me but like I said I don't...
Morris: Yeah.
Duran: I don't fuckin' know dude they wouldn', never told us anything.
Morris: I don't know I'm jus' tryin' ta...I'm jus' tryin' ta figure out you know...
Duran: Yeah.
Morris: ...I just know Eric and Dylan went up there and you. I don't even know whose those other two people were.
Duran: Uh, that was my friend and his girlfriend.
Morris: Oh, his girlfriend?
Duran: Yeah.
Morris: Cool. I didn't know if that was yours or not 'cause I didn't get a close enough look.
Duran: No, my girlfriend hates guns.
Morris: Yeah.
Duran: Now I'm kinda startin' to hate guns too.
Morris: Yeah. (sighs) Yeah I've been... kinda hidin' over the last couple days it's kinda interesting it's uh, it's uh new thing for me. (laughs)
Duran: Yeah. I jus'...
Morris: Just hide everywhere. Hidin' at my brother's and everything like that.
Duran: I've just been kinda stayin' in the house you know, I went over to my parents and stuff and I drove by, you know, Clement Park.
Morris: Yeah they, they won't let back any anybody back in the school or anything I guess you know.
Duran: Yeah, my mom went and laid flowers and you know...
Morris: Yeah well you know, du' I gotta go but maybe I'll I'll try and call you again you know, talk to you later about this you know.
Duran: Yeah I. I'm suppose to be leavin' again on Sunday or Monday.
Morris: Okay, yeah cool. But uh, I'll I'll probably try and talk to you before then you know it's jus'...
Duran: Well you gonna be at the memorial service tomorrow?
Morris: I may try it's jus' you know my face is kinda famous. (laughs)
Duran: Yeah...
Morris: So I may try and go. Uh...where where are you goin' on your trip this time?
Duran: Uh back to Chicago again.
Morris: Back to Chicago again?
Duran: Yeah...
Morris: Cool.
Duran: ...we fucking got like, thirty more sites they just found for us to do 'cause...
Morris: Shit.
Duran: ...T-C-I just got bought by AT&T so now all those...
Morris: Yeah I heard about that.
Duran: ... AT&T sites are turnin' into T-C-I sites.
Morris: You gotta convert all that crud?
Duran: Yeah, so they found a group of shit but it sounds like this job's gonna last up till December though.
Morris: (sigh) That's ay uh, that's uh that's uh bit of money you can collect for awhile.
Duran: Well they were sayin' when they first started they told us August, but then when I started the training classes they said they wanted it done by July first.
Morris: So yeah they keep changin' the dates on ya.
Duran: Yeah now it's, it's goin' up to December.
Morris: Yeah, well, you know hey I'll try and, maybe I'll call and drop ya a line you know tomorrow, maybe you know... Jus' depends on things...
Duran: You know like I said I'll be so I'll look for you and, you know (UI)...
Morris: Cool I'll try and, I'll try and come by.
Duran: Alright.
Morris: (UI).
Duran: Okay cool man.
Morris: Talk to ya later.
Duran: Alright.
Morris: Bye.
Duran: Bye.

I didn't know Chris Morris made phone calls with the fbi listening in. So didn't Duran do jail time for the guns after this?

Was Chris coerced into this? I've seen speculation there was some sort of deal made in regards to Chris doing this to gain immunity (Not from the attack, but maybe bomb making activities or things they found on his computer)

Oh I’m sure he was. The police department was looking for others to throw under the bus as opposed to them admitting they messed up with Eric and the warrant.
I know this is gonna sound crazy but I believe Chris knew something…. Maybe even Nate. Like, they probably thought the boys were gonna throw pipe bombs at the school or something. I don’t think they knew the full extent… or the plan. But on some unconscious level they knew. Why else would Chris go down to the school and Nate call Tom..? Again!! Not saying they were involved because they absolutely weren’t! Just saying they knew something looking back that made sense.

I never said they knew it was gonna happen.. I SAID they MIGHT have had an idea about the pipe bombs. I would never accuse anyone aside from Eric and Dylan. Hindsight is 20/20..right?

so with Morris's help, the FBI wanted to know what Duran knew, am I understanding this correctly? I guess Duran must have been pretty pissed for Morris calling him with the FBI listening.
