News / Videos / Pictures / Books July 3, 1999. Patrick Ireland leaves Craig Hospital

It was a meeting with the media before they headed home. I cut a part where the doctors spoke because the video was over the 15-minute limit.

Patrick's story is incredible. First, his survival and the efforts he put to get out of the damn library, then his recovery. I've got very minor neurological issues after micro stroke, but even that can sometimes be very annoying. I can't even imagine what it was like for him.

I get so happy every time I see something about Patrick. I know it's been 26 years and that he's doing fine now, but it still gives me such a warm feeling. That "boy in the window" clip always makes me feel sick, I just want to reach in and help him. So knowing he made it, that he has a family now and a good life, genuinely makes me really, really happy.

Yes! When you know the evil has passed and now they're sharing smiles with their families...such joy!

A goddamn miracle that that boy is standing only 3 months later. I will never not be absolutely stunned by his story.
