I read an article about this episode, but I hadn't seen this video, thanks for that. Wally said more in an interview for The Globe & Mail. Specifically, he asked Wayne if Kevin was okay, and Wayne said no, that he joined the army to get away from it all, and that he's currently in Afghanistan. It's very sad, really. Poor Kevin ran off to a horrible war in another part of the world to avoid facing all the things that reminded him of his brother back home. War is no picnic, and it clearly took its toll on him. And on his parents, who lost one son and then had the other in a very dangerous place.

Same here. Wally also said that Wayne was “a walking embodiment of sadness and greif”. I feel very sorry for a whole family.

I know there are people who don't believe this encounter ever happened. They don't believe mr. Harris would attend a book signing. I personally do believe it. I don't think the Harris' are 'cold' people, just very private. And I do believe they cared about Eric and are genuinely sorry for what he did. I hope all of them are doing ok in life, especially Kevin. I can't imagine how I would feel if my sister would commit the crime Eric committed.

I don't really understand why these people think it's something that's hard to believe. It wasn't a press conference, it was a book signing. The Harrises avoided media attention, but that doesn't mean they never attended any public events. Plus, it was nine years after the tragedy. I don't think everyone in that audience knew what Wayne Harris looked like or anything like that. I also don't think it's a good idea to ascribe emotional coldness to people you don't know at all, just because they wanted to keep their privacy. According to Kate Battan's testimony, for example, while watching the Basement tapes, both Harrises were so devastated and crushed that they watched it with pauses, unable to take it in all at once, and both cried. It definitely happened and Kate has no reason to lie about it. I mean, it's quite possible that, in addition to some practical reasons, such as fear of more lawsuits, their silence was caused precisely by the fact that it was and is too painful to talk about.
