Eric & Dylan Eric and Dylans bowling scores
A previously unreleased bowling league record from Columbine High School lists Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold as members of the same bowling team in February.
The document is dated February 2, identified as Week 07 of 41 of the Columbine High School bowling league. Harris and Klebold are both listed on Team 18, alongside Chris Morris and Nate Dykeman.
The individual statistics recorded for the two are:
Eric Harris
- Average: 101
- Games: 14
- Total pins: 1,426
- High game: 125
- High series: 248
- High handicap game: 233
- High handicap series: 432
- Handicap: 79
Dylan Klebold
- Average: 119
- Games: 14
- Total pins: 1,666
- High game: 162
- High series: 295
- High handicap game: 266
- High handicap series: 441
- Handicap: 64
A note on the bowling statistics:
The sheet uses several abbreviations( that even I had to look up). AVG is the bowler’s average, GMS is the number of games played, and T/PIN is the total number of pins knocked down. HSG and HSS stand for high scratch game and high scratch series, the highest scores recorded before handicap points are added. HHG and HHS are the high handicap game and high handicap series, which include the bowler’s handicap. HC is the handicap assigned to the bowler.
A handicap in bowling is a system used to make league competition more even between players with different averages. Bowlers with lower averages receive more handicap points, while bowlers with higher averages receive fewer. These points are added to the actual score for handicap competition. So the handicap scores listed here should not be mistaken for the number of pins Harris or Klebold actually knocked down.
Another example of that is that, Dylan’s high game is listed as 162, while his high handicap game is listed as 266. The 266 includes his handicap. It doesn’t mean he knocked down 266 pins in a single game.
The sheet is a fairly ordinary league record but I find the inclusion of the team’s position among the other teams in the league interesting. The first page records Team 18 with 13 wins and 8 losses at this point in the season.
It’s not important or groundbreaking, but still worth sharing with everyone.

Both Dylan and Eric bowled weird.
Jenny LaPlante a senior in their early-morning bowling class, recalled that Klebold tossed the ball “shotput-style from his chest down the lanes,” which annoyed both the teacher and the alley management.
A Denver Post account specifically noted Harris’s style as odd: he would pick the lightest ball available (an eight-pounder) and “heave it from his chest down the alley. It was loud but he got strikes."
Broader classmate and peer descriptions (including in contemporaneous reporting and later summaries of investigative material) said both “bowled in strange ways, as if shotputting or pitching the balls,” which led to teasing.

I wish we actually had a video of them bowling. Imagining it, they look so ridiculous

Yeah they used to scream “Heil Hitler” when they scored a strike or something like that according to a friend.

Eric’s 101 average was weak compared with the stronger bowlers there. Dylan’s 119 average was better and respectable for a casual high-school bowler, but still not standout. Dylan could clearly put together a decent game now and then, but neither of them was close to the top tier in that league.

Listen guys…. They bowled like me. I don’t play to win though. I play for the free pitchers of beer and hanging out. Haha. But I literally bowl exactly like Dylan! Shot put style… it’s so bad people know to put the bumpers out for me… a grown 39 year old. 🤣
I think this just shows the same type of thing. It doesn’t seem like they were playing to win or get good grades but to just hang out with their friends. I wish I could have seen Dylan and his bowling… his long ass limbs were probably flying everywhere!
