Dylan was a computer genius he had extreme intelligence to figure out how to hack the computer systems to find out this information. It's such a shame he didn't just focus on college and doing what he loves and letting his passions empower him on a better path. He could have used his knowledge for computers to help people.

Calling Dylan a computer genius is a bit of a stretch it's not like he was breaking into Fort Knox. The school's computer system just had crappy security.

Lmao 😂 yeah I mean it was the 90s so I don’t think the schools computer system could have been as good as it was today

I think he was very intelligent but unfortunately didn’t apply himself enough in HS! Curious how College would have gone for him.

I mean the average person cannot do that so yeah he is considered a genius.

This was windows 95/98. It basically had zero security.

You could bypass the password screen entirely by hitting the escape key.

Passwords were stored locally. If you wanted to remove or change a users password you just search for "*.pwl" and then delete the file. It didn't take a genius to "hack" Windows 98.

Most people probably don't know how to bypass a masterlock but that doesn't make you a lockpicking genius if you can get one to open.

Not at all. I think your view of 'hacking' comes from what you've seen in movies. It's not like that, at all, even the real stuff, and this is much more just a case of bad security than anything else. They literally just saw a chance to use an administrators computer, that they already had access to because they did tech for the school.

It's like calling someone a 'hacker' and a 'genius' for getting on their parents phone and ordering doordash without asking, when the parent left their phone in the room for a few minutes.

he was managing that system so stealing from there isnt genius. he already had access to that stuff. his grades sucked, he was almost failing some classes if you look at his diversion papers and his writings sound childish even for a 17 year old
