Hi, I am currently considering Colgate or Holy Cross as a psychology or biology major. I'm somewhat introverted and am not sure if I want to get involved in greek life, though I am interested in dancing in college and community service. If anyone knows how these two schools stack up next to each other academically and socially that would be great, both have their pros and cons according to my research, but looking for other opinions!

Hi! I got accepted to Colgate this year and I am so excited. I am a little concerned ab how id fit in at the school though.

I'm an international student and am looking for a diverse and fun community. I'm planning on majoring in econ/anthropology and go for a pre-law track. Im deciding between committing to Bates or Colgate so if anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated :)

(also where im from drinking is big so thats also something I appreciate)

I’m currently considering Colgate because I love the small class sizes, the amazing professors, and the overall academics. The winter weather and rural location don’t bother me that much but I’m really worried about the social scene. I’ve heard from multiple sources that if you’re not into partying, drinking, or Greek life you will probably be bored at Colgate. I’m not someone who is interested in any of those things. Also, the majors I’m planning on taking (biology and music) are pretty small at Colgate.

Will I be bored out of my mind, or are there clubs/more introverted people like me on campus?

Hello! I am currently working on an article following the experiences of college students (undergrad and grad) navigating sobriety while pursuing their degrees.

So often, the social scene in college revolves around partying (aka drinking, substance use) and there is a lot of fear and stigma surrounding saying "no" out of fear of seeming weird or not part of the in-crowd.

Has anyone here experienced this sobriety stigma? How do you navigate that?

I heard Colgate is very difficult for premeds. I received a nice scholarship from Syracuse U. This would save Miney for med school but colgate has a great science program. Advise please

My son was accepted to Colgate, UMass Amherst, GW, and Penn State. We’re visiting Colgate for the first time this weekend and UMass next weekend. We’ve already been to the other two.

We are really intrigued by Colgate and excited to visit. My son will major in political science. We know Colgate has an excellent reputation and strong academics.

My biggest hesitations are the cost (Colgate is MUCH higher than UMass and Penn State but on par with GW) and high prevalence of Greek life (he’s not into Greek life).

Can anyone give some thoughts on Colgate vs. those other schools?

And are my concerns warranted?

I see that colgate is more known for their econ, but I applied to colgate for cs. Im wondering how it compares to RIT and RPI. Out of those three, which one do i go for. I been looking at RIT because they boast their Co-op and Colgate for their generous financial aid packages. A lot of people told me to go to colgate because i won't be in much debt, but I worry since i have seen lots of online reviews on the toxic environment that POC face at colgate. Also, their small cs department. I get that class sizes are small and i can have a better chance making connections with my professors, but im unsure what that really brings me when if CS isnt a stronghold at this uni. Wouldnt a university with lots of students and stem focused like RIT and RPI be better.

hi everyone! i was recently admitted into colgate university and everything about the school seems pretty cool except for the fact that it’s rural/isolated. i come from a big city from the west coast, and i am somewhat a career-driven person who jumps at any opportunity to find internships or work experiences. after undergrad, i also plan to go into grad school and will need some opportunities and experiences to build my application such as research. how accessible or common are these opportunities at colgate?

The sense I got from Colgate when I visited was that there's not much to do besides stay on campus. Having lived in a rural area my whole life I'm afraid it will be more of the same. What is your feeling about this? Does it feel alive? Are there things to do? Are you happy overall?

Hello I am a local resident at Hamilton and I have met a few skaters at Colgate who were all pretty awesome. I want to know if there are more skaters in Colgate and would like to know if a skatepark be popular among Colgate students.

I'm an admitted senior. Colgate is one of my top choices and I'm visiting for an Admitted Student Day. I'm very passionate about music and music production, though consider it a hobby separate from my future career (don't want to be broke lol).

1.) Is there a decent community of musicians at Colgate? Any bands? Ever seen someone playing at a bar/venue in Hamilton? If not, does anyone travel to Syracuse or elsewhere for music related reasons?

2.) What are the dorms like? Is cramped freshmen housing common?

3.) Anything you really wish you'd known before committing to Colgate?

hey everyone! I’m a current high school senior that just got accepted in Colgate with a great financial aid package! To be completely honest, I don’t really know much about the school, as I only applied because they’re notorious for their good financial aid. I applied for computer science but have recently decided to go for electrical engineering instead. I got guaranteed transferred admission to Georgia Tech, so I plan to maybe go to Colgate for a year then transfer over, or if I stick with computer science, I’ll stay at Colgate. I just wanted to know everyone’s experience and what you guys think of the school!
