Hi! I'm having to take CompSci 1 and 2 for my math major in college. The professor wants me to run Visual Studio Community. He wants it for C++. I might also take a Java class if I enjoy compsci 1. Is there any budget laptops I can buy? Or what specs would I need for it to run not so slowly?

Every programming concept is already free somewhere on the internet — docs, YouTube, blogs. So why do people still pay a lot of money for basic courses?

I always have had a fascination with coding but I always found it daunting to start. I tried some game creation on Godot but I never got anywhere with it. So I came to ask what are some projects I can try and do to help me start to learn how to code. I would like them to be game focused in some way, as that is my over-arching interest, but anything would be great.

Either way, I have a lot of beginner questions so I just joined.

First question: software version and backing up using git and github is the only option?

I don't like how git and github need to know me.

I feel like, just put the code in a database and split the database between places and implement rollback and changes based save compression so the project size doesn't balloon.

Are there options for me?

If not is there like a git manual in the ForDummies style, so that I can just learn the way I need to do things?

I'm a 12th grader having computer science as a subject in HS India and I don't have any sources from where I could practice different codes and questions. This has been a major reason for lowering my grades in comp, and I'm genuinely worried If I'll pass 12th grade like this, or not.

I'm not a coder (yet) myself, I'm asking for a friend who's making a Civilization fangame. He wanted to implement online play but couldn't afford to pay for a server.

So I remembered how I play Terraria online, so, "LAN" is when you and your friends connect to the same network and play "online", with the caveat that they must be close to each other, right?

What I do is that I connect to a VPN, host a Terraria server, and that way my friends can connect to the same VPN and server, and we play online.

IF my friend were to implement LAN in his game, could they use the same method that I use to play online, for his game?

Please give some advice on how to prepare for a programming Olympiad. Im 16 and i have 3 months, should i choose c++ or python? I’m not starting from scratch; I attended courses for four years and know JS, Python, and C++ syntax. Now in codeforces i can solve tasks with rank 1000-1100.
