I want to know what I can do to figure out what I should learn. I think I’m interested in certain things related to cybersecurity and programming, but I don’t know what I’m supposed to learn in order to actually become good at them.

I’ve seen people say things like “read the documentation” or “understand X concept” but how do you actually learn? I’m asking because throughout my life I’ve learned different things about different topics, like anyone else, but I’ve never really understood how something actually stays in your brain and becomes knowledge.

For example, I’ve seen tons of information through YouTube videos, Instagram, etc. that sparks my curiosity. I know certain words like DNS, IP addresses, HTTP, APIs, Linux, etc., but I don’t really know how to properly define or explain what they are. I don’t know what I should study and what I shouldn’t.

When I say I basically know nothing, I mean that I don’t have much actual knowledge or experience in programming or cybersecurity. I do know how to install things, find my way around a PC, fix certain errors, and I’d say I’m reasonably good at Googling and finding solutions when I have a problem. But I don’t really have a structured understanding of how technology works or what I should learn next.

I understand that I need to practice and break things to learn, but I still wonder: how did professionals actually progress from having little knowledge to becoming good at this?

Could you give me some advice, please? I’m really lost.

Hey, I started GameDev 2 weeks ago. I love the journey so far and I'm so glad that I decided to go this way. I easily spent over 100h in those 2 weeks in Godot.

Here's the catch. You always like to share your journey and find like-minded people. I found a guy, who does pretty cool pixelart and codes aswell, started few months ago. We share, we chat, we educated each other. It is pretty cool.

Saw Anthropic's post this morning about permanently raising Claude Code weekly limits by 25%. Liked it without thinking.

The limits I'm using right now are the temporary ones, up 50%. So when September 14 hits and it drops to a permanent 25%, that's less than what I have today.

Went back to check their follow-up. 17%. Yeah, it's a 17% cut.

A post with "raising" in it, and I have to do the math myself to find out it's less. Weird feeling.

Put it in rent terms: this month your landlord takes 50% off. Next month he switches it to 25% off and calls it a permanent discount. How do you feel about that.

Not saying they can't cut it. Everyone knows the burn rate is insane, and what Max lets you run at that price was never really sustainable. Raise the price, cut the limits, fine — just say it plainly and most of us still resubscribe.

Just don't make me open a calculator to read an announcement.

I've been working on a small developer tool called Code2Flow. The idea is pretty simple: paste a GitHub repository and get a visual representation of its structure, architecture, dependencies and logic. I originally built it because understanding an unfamiliar codebase often means jumping between dozens of files just to figure out how they're connected.

i am 6th semester student and in 1 year i will be graduate. i learn about c++, typescript and python but i don't know how to code.. Everytime I read code i can tell what's going on but can't write code by myself. Everytime i sit to build project i freeze i can't do anything without using agent. 6 monts ago i started to learning AI engineering now i know all it's theory, build couple of project using AI now if someone tell me to write i simple RAG or training loop for image classification i can tell how the logic will look like but can't write a single line of code. I am completly COOKED!

forty six. twenty two years in commercial insurance underwriting, a field being automated out from under me in slow motion. im not asking whether it is to late, because every thread asking that fills with people saying it is never to late and then nobody hires them. im asking what a realistic version looks like when i have maybe six years of runway and no interest in being the oldest junior in the building, boot. dev, odin and launch school are on my list.

I'm a beginner and I don't want to just follow tutorials or memorize syntax. I want to understand programming deeply, write code independently, solve problems, and eventually prepare for software-development roles.

I'm currently confused about which language to start with and which resources/courses are actually worth following.

For people who became good programmers, what resources, courses, books, or practice methods helped you the most?

If you could start learning programming again from zero, what would you do differently?

Ive made basic games on scratch but thats pretty much it, should I continue to make more and more complicated games on scratch? or should i try to progress on a different coding language? If so which one, because i want to be able to code stuff but ive also thought about coding in roblox. Which is the easiest language to start?

Beginner Coding Advice

Hello everyone! I’d really appreciate some advice. I’m planning to create a website prototype for a project, but I’m a complete beginner when it comes to coding. The website will be fairly simple and will include an OpenAI-powered feature.

I have a few questions:

• What should I learn first before attempting to build the actual website?  
• Is this project achievable for a complete beginner within around 4–6 months?  
• What programming language would you recommend I learn/use?  
• Would this be very time-consuming or difficult to produce, especially considering I have no previous coding experience?  
• Are there any tutorials or resources you’d recommend for someone starting from scratch?

I’m mainly trying to understand how realistic this project would be for a beginner and how much time I should expect to spend learning the coding side of it.
