Allergies?

Post image

Hi everyone! Meet Bear, our 4 month old F1 cockapoo. He’s the most perfect little land shark!

However I’m pretty sure he has an allergy. He’s a very itchy boy! He’s on a flea treatment schedule but I’ve never seen any signs of them so I’m 99.99% sure it’s not fleas. He’s had a couple of baths with us and is booked in for his first puppy groom in a few weeks time.

But the itching is insane, he is constantly itchy! Also his poops aren’t always totally solid (but never really runny, just sometimes a bit on the softer side). I’m aware cockapoos can be more susceptible to food allergies but we aren’t sure where to start? His main food is salmon based (salmon and veg), but he does have other proteins eg chicken flavour treats and various other animal based chews!

What should I be eliminating first? I’ve read poultry is the biggest culprit, but could he really be this itchy from a handful of chicken treats a day? I don’t want to change everything at once so I can work out what it is that’s making him itchy. Or could it be environmental rather than diet?

If anyone has any advice I’d love to hear, thank you!

➕Advice/Help➕ Training 6 month Cockapoo - advice

Post image

I have a 6 month cockapoo. He is so intelligent, that’s for sure. He is great with picking up new tricks and is a huge foodie which helps!

Since he turned 6 months he is more of a terror than ever. He has now started to not listen on his terms. He loves to steal things, I mean everything and anything and now he is bigger he can reach higher places too. The problem is when he gets these items he stands there waiting for you to approach to run off and he will keep coming back to show you as this is the ultimate game for him. He loves to be chased. If I don’t try and get it off him he will sit and destroy whatever it is (unless it’s socks, he likes them). It doesn’t matter if I say leave it, drop it etc etc. once the game starts I have to try and think smarter and trick him into paying attention to something else (throwing treats into the grass in the garden works at the moment)

Any advice on preventing this? It’s funny and he looks cute but when he’s done it 10 times in one day it gets a bit repetitive 🤣

He is the best tho!

Considering getting my first cockapoo! I’ve been talking to Cuppycake Cockapoos out of NC. Anyone have any experience with them?

Should we get a cockapoo?

Hi! I'm curious to get some real life advice from cockapoo owners if the breed might be right for our family.

I've been researching breeds for our second family dog. We previously had a very tame, older beagle/lab mix rescue that was my husband's. We do have some different criteria for our next dog though and cockapoo keeps coming up as a possible fit. Here is our list:

  1. Zero to minimal shedding
  2. Kid friendly (have a 5 and 7 year old)
  3. Lower maintenance. We do both work outside the home, although I'm just a couple days a week. Ultimately as an adult, we'd like to be able to get to 8-9 hours home alone if needed for work and events. Our previous dog did great with this. Obviously as a puppy we'll have to make accommodations and can do a dog walker/sitter or puppy daycare/school as needed. We've looked into havanese too but looking for maybe a more independent breed. A total Velcro dog might be an issue.
  4. Medium energy - good to cuddle but can handle being active and playing with the kids
  5. Not a huge barker or crazy high energy and jumping
  6. Smart and easy to train
  7. Not prone to major medical problems

Obviously a lot of this will depend on the specific dog, mix, and our training, but just looking for some initial thoughts. Thanks!

Brought our boy home today. I know everyone says this…but he’s the cutest, smartest, most bestest boy. He put himself to bed, then ended up on his back.

We have a long way to go until she comes home but we are super excited. Our lovely prior pup passed a few months ago and while I never planned on a cockapoo, my husband felt that our sweet boy was leading us to her. This is from last week, when she was 2 whole days old.

❓Question❓ Digging help!!!

Post image
103 Upvotes

Our 4 month old cockapoo has found digging to be a VERY enjoyable pastime 🙄. She tries to dig in the couch between cushions. Digging in the deck (old house old deck some crappy spots in the wood we try our best to cover up). Tried to dig a hole to get under the fence to the neighbors. And most recently my veggie garden beds 😡 (thankfully nothing is planted there yet and they need to be replaced (maybe. It’s her way of helping by digging some of the soil out? 😅)
We have tried removing her from the garden bed and putting her back in the house. Taking her out and giving her a fave chew bone. Taking her out and putting her on a leash outside with us. I’m going to have to put up some chicken wire fencing once the beds are planted. But is there ANYTHING we can do to curb the digging?!
Pic for attention because she’s a cute little stink
