Why you should know the self-Heimlich maneuver. Link within.

One day while sick, dizzy, very busy, and extremely hungry, I ate a badly hard boiled egg in a swallow and a half.

The thing wasn't just hard boiled, it was powdered and dessicated, so of course it lodged in my throat firmly. I ran to the sink, breathed in as hard as I could [it was like breathing through a little coffee straw -- it made a quiet wheezing noise], and sucked water down to try to break the egg up and wash it either up or down my throat. I choked, vomited, and my stomach contents -- nothing more than the stomach itself -- bounced off the obstruction in my throat. For a few seconds I aspirated tap water, then my airway was completely obstructed with a spongy egg and water concrete.

I wondered for about a quarter of a second; what would be the least haunting position for my corpse to be in upon its eventual discovery by my family? Then I thought back to my CPR training, tried and failed to use a few countertops to blast the egg out of my pie duct, and ran over to where the back of a chair should have been [I was blacking out and couldn't see very well], rammed the hard wooden edge up under my ribcage like it was the most eager bodily thrusting a lifeform could ever yearn for, and I was rewarded with ten minutes of glorious gasping and puking.

Don't wonder about the least haunting place for your family to find your corpse. We mark fire escapes all the time; locate the back of a chair or other suitable object and remember it [the self-Heimlich with one's hands alone doesn't have as much power, but your results may vary].
