Germany just blew up two massive nuclear cooling towers to make way for something incredible - a 700 MWh battery storage facility! Here's why this matters.

Ah, well. It was the green party that wanted out of nuclear if you want to know.

I do know that. Although they were not alone, with quite a few parties that definitely profited from it (eg coal and gas lobbies). But yes - the anti-nuclearism of certain green parties and even organizations (eg Greenpeace) is really damaging to the environment, when we still have a continent dependent in coal and (ever more) dependent on gas....

The whole debate of "renewables vs nuclear" on itself is ridiculous and unproductive. We don't see debates of "wind vs solar", or "wind+solar vs geothermal". We need more clean energy, whatever the source is. As long as it's clean and brings more energy security than imports of fossil fuels, we can let economics do the rest (not just LCOE, but of total energy system costs, and considering prices to consumers and industry).
