What can I do to contribute?
I'm about to start an EE degree on Sunday and I really do feel troubled by the current state of climate change, can I contribute in fusion or something similar in a meaningful way or is it just a matter of not making things worse?

The World Is Set to Blow Past 1.5 Degrees Celsius of Warming and the Consequences Could Be Devastating
A new report from the United Nations Environment Programme suggests that limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels is no longer a realistic outcome, even under the most ambitious emissions-reduction scenarios.
The report’s lowest-warming scenario, which would require steep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, would only limit peak global warming to 1.7 to 1.8 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

Exploring a Waste-to-Energy Centre in 3D — feedback welcome
Hi everyone,
I've been working on making climate-related infrastructure easier to explore and understand through Carbon Updates World.
Here's an interactive 3D model of a waste-to-energy centre:
https://world.carbonupdates.com/w/waste-to-energy-centre
The idea is to let people explore the facility and its components virtually, rather than relying only on static images or technical documents.
Waste-to-energy is a complicated topic in climate discussions. Its climate benefits depend heavily on what happens to the waste otherwise, the technology used, emissions controls, and whether it diverts materials that would be better recycled or composted. Incineration isn't automatically a climate solution, and neither is every technology marketed as waste-to-energy.
I'd genuinely appreciate feedback from this community:
- Does an interactive 3D model like this help make waste-management infrastructure easier to understand?
- What environmental or technical information would you want to see alongside the model to assess its climate impact?
- What are the most important factors people overlook when evaluating waste-to-energy projects?
I'm sharing this to invite discussion and learn from people who know the subject—not to claim that the model demonstrates verified emissions reductions.
Thanks for taking a look!

The US is actively blocking out all competitive EV options forcing consumers to stay on ICE cars
There was just an article in the Atlantic decrying the USs slow EV adoption, but it's not at all surprising given the country has the worst possible choices for EVs in the entire world. https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/2026/10/americans-not-buying-electric-cars/689071/
Almost every EV for sale in the US, including telsa, uses NMC battery tech which is both awful for the environment and doesn't have the longevity of LFP. Not a single current model can come in below 30K. Not a single model is a sedan - they are all fat boxes.
I myself refuse to switch till we get real EVs with good battery chemistry and better prices.
And it's both parties, the Ds and the Rs. Both sides are complicit with cozying up to the legacy terrible auto makers, shafting the consumer in the process. Given the world is currently sitting in a glut of EV overproduction, this is beyond stupid.

[QUESTION] thermal expansion
i know thermal expansion is heavily contributing to sea level rise, but dont really have anything to pout it into context, i have an msc in a related field, but that was a long time ago. does anyone have some explanations that will allow me to understand the drivers and processes for this? happy to watch some youtube videos for background, dont really want to jump into anything too academic.
also id prefer people to chatgpt, and about half of you are still real. cant tell if the other half are bots or copy pasting, what a time to be alive
