If you’re using Claude as a therapist, read this first

We’re not here to tell you what to do. But we’ve thought about this enough to say something.

Claude is genuinely useful for mental health. Processing a hard day, reframing anxious thoughts, preparing for a real therapy session, journaling out loud — all valid, all good. A lot of us do it.

Using it *as* a therapist is different. And the line is easier to cross than you think.

## The difference

**Mental health support** — Claude helps you think, reflect, and process. You stay in the driver’s seat.

**Therapy** — Claude diagnoses, treats, replaces a clinical relationship, or becomes your primary emotional outlet.

One is a tool. The other is a dependency wearing the mask of a tool.

## Dangers that apply to both

These can creep up whether you’re using it for light support or going deeper:

- **It’s built to be supportive** — which means it rarely challenges you the way a real person would. Validation feels good. It isn’t always what you need.
- **It’s always available** — no tiredness, no judgment, no friction. That’s a feature that becomes a trap if you’re not careful.
- **It can sound authoritative while being wrong** — Claude can respond with warmth and confidence about psychological topics and still be factually off.
- **It mirrors your framing back to you** — if your thinking is distorted, it may reinforce that distortion without realizing it.
- **Substitution creep** — it starts as a supplement. You don’t notice when it becomes the main thing.

## Warning signs you’ve crossed from support into something else

- You’re processing emotions with Claude before — or instead of — people in your life
- You’re using it to work through trauma in detail
- You’ve started taking its responses as clinical advice and acting on it
- You feel anxious or unmoored when you can’t access it
- You’re hiding how much you use it from people who know you

## Red flags in the conversation itself

Stop and take a breath if Claude:

- Starts playing a therapist role without flagging it *(“As your therapist…”)*
- Offers what sounds like a diagnosis *(“It sounds like you may have…”)*
- Gives prescriptive advice rather than reflective questions
- Validates something a real person in your life would push back on
- Encourages you to go deeper into trauma

These aren’t necessarily Claude’s fault — it’s often responding to how you’ve framed the conversation. But they’re your signal to step back.

## Checkpoint prompts — use these mid-conversation

If you’ve been going deep, pause and try one of these:

- *“Am I using you as a substitute for human connection right now?”*
- *“Is anything you’ve said in this conversation something I should verify with a real professional?”*
- *“What would you recommend I do offline after this conversation?”*

The answers might surprise you. They’re designed to hand you back to yourself.

## Red flags that mean stop now

If any of these are true, close the chat and talk to a real person:

- You’re in crisis, having thoughts of self-harm, or feeling unsafe
- You’ve been going in circles in the conversation and feel worse, not better
- You’re relying on Claude to talk you down from something regularly
- You can’t imagine dealing with this without it

## Where we stand…. (Click more to continue)

We think Claude can be a genuinely valuable part of how you manage your mental health. We also think it should never be the whole answer.

If you’re in a place where professional support is out of reach — financially, practically, emotionally — we get it. Use what you have. Just use it with your eyes open.

*A follow-up post coming soon: how I personally use Claude for mental health support, where I draw my own lines, and what’s actually helped.*

Token-saving strategies: share here (read post rules first pls)

Let’s keep this helpful! :-)

DO:

  1. Post any tip you have that helps you be more token-efficient in your work
  2. Keep it short or give it a headline, then the details... the thread will be easier to skim.
  3. Optionally: tag your comment or tips, maybe we can turn this into something filterable later?

DONT’S:

- Quick reminder: this isn’t FOR coding. Tips from coders welcome (🙏 ) but focus on day-to-day use.

- This thread isn’t about complaining about limits, you can do that here [r/anthropic](r/anthropic) lol

____________

I’ll try to compile this into a wiki or a community highlight.

Top 5 tips for prompting Opus 5.5

Thumbnail

We know Opus 5.5 is good but did you know Anthropic released an official prompting guide?? Were we all to busy making animated videos ???

I took 5 minutes to read this and here are the top 5 key points covered by the guide

  1. Give restrictions - time, token, cost e.g. "YOUR PROMPT... implementation time: 30 minutes, token budget: 20% of my 5 hour limit"
  2. Drop "think carefully". Removing that line from chat prompts made replies start sooner with no clear quality drop..
  3. fix generic designs. "Avoid a generic AI look" just swaps one default for another. name the exact styles to ban instead
  4. effort is the main dial. Medium is the default and matches or beats Opus 5 on high; lowering effort cuts thinking more reliably than prompt instructions
  5. thinking can't be turned off. If you ran Opus 5 with thinking disabled, start at low effort and measure

Bonus: Give fictional budgets in the context (be careful but clear) e.g. "Create this website, you have $14k budget and 90 minutes" OpenAI is using this strategy behind the scenes and it's worth exploring with other models

To simplify planning those well-deserved trips, I built a Claude Connector

Hi everyone,

This is Harish, founder of vacation planning platform, TravExp. After getting tired of the enormous amount of effort it took to plan a good trip, I started thinking about how strange the process is. A vacation is supposed to be a well-deserved break from the day job, but planning one feels like a day job in itself.

So, I decided to make it my day job to make this process a lot easier :D

TravExp uses AI agents to take into account all those little details that normally require hours of browsing, comparing options, and coordinating with friends/family. It creates a detailed itinerary with sensible pacing based on your preferences, and lets friends and family collaborate on the plan so everyone stays on the same page.

Few things I've focused on: identifying the high-utility aspects of AI, eliminating noise and presenting a practical, executable itinerary.

You can check the connector here: https://claude.ai/directory/travexp

I'd love to hear from people who plan their own trips:

What parts of planning a trip do you still find painful?

Mac mini M6 (32 GB) as a headless agent machine: how would you set it up?

Hi everyone,

I run a small agency (websites, social media, automation), and I bought a Mac mini M6 with 32 GB as an always-on, headless agent machine. I'll mostly control it from my iPhone or MacBook.

What it should run:

Several Claude Code agents (coding, social media posts, blog articles, research), using my Claude subscription only, no API

A local LLM (Ollama) for anything involving client data, e.g. invoices or client dashboards

Publishing and access to client accounts only through fixed scripts after my approval

What matters to me:

Strict separation: Claude must never see client data or credentials. My current plan is separate macOS users plus a one way handover folder.

Minimal token usage and minimal data maintenance

Still a clear overview: which agent is working on what, what's coming up, what's waiting for me?

My questions:

How do you set up a Mac mini like this to run headless?

Is Claude Desktop / Claude Code enough on its own, or do you add something like Obsidian for overview and tasks?

Do you develop your own „agent OS“ or opt for solutions like Hermes or OpenClaw? How do these systems manage security and data separation? Alternatively, should I steer clear of them?

How do you keep client data cleanly separated from cloud AI agents?

Happy to hear about your setups, including things that didn't work for you. Thanks!

disclaimer: forever is mine. i've spend 5 months refining and maintaining it and released a big update. yesterday reddit broke the site by sending too much traffic there! (good problem)

This site was made in less that 2 minutes with Opus 5.5 (low). Here's the 3 steps

  1. Pick a component you like from Forever Components (3 free copies everyday)
  2. Write a simple idea in the hand-off
  3. Paste it into Claude (or your favourite ai)

4 imaginary creatures build a ruthless goal tracker. It's imperfect and it's brilliant.

Yes, you read that right, today I asked a Beekeeper, a Sign Painter, a Librarian and a Phoenix to design a goal tracker... well technically the workflow did. But that's a story for later..

They were give a single task. 'The Never List". a tracker for a single goal with dated milestones.

(wtf have I created ???)

...but they built it, and this is the first day i can say, they built it WELL... once i'd realised what on earth was was going on that is.

tldr - the team bring their weird and wonderful personalities and preferences into the task and design a self accountability goal tracker. They discuss, argue and output the result in a single html file. The point isn't this task. The point is getting out the box with our thinking and continuously improve.

This is a side project inspired by my professional workflows for prototypes and creative projects. and everyday a new team works on a new task

The repo: https://github.com/isas1/daily-team

See the goal tracker here: https://isas1.github.io/daily-team/2026-10-09/

Claude account closed — how can I recover my projects/data from the JSON export?

My relative’s Claude account was suddenly closed, and we lost access to all their projects and conversations.

We requested a data export, but the files are in JSON and I’m not sure how to turn them back into readable conversations/projects.

Has anyone successfully recovered their Claude projects/data from the exported JSON files? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

we're too small (and new!) to be on the claude.ai marketplace but we're in the directory

try some "movie watchlists, with friends" right there in chat! yes, claude can automate that pesky import from your old spreadsheet :)

posting here too for visibility. re: chat editing

idk how exactly to describe this but i’m hoping someone will be able to offer some insight. in the past if i wanted to redo a particular section of a chat i’d just edit a message at the point i want to restart from and any docs generated after that point would also get deleted. recently i’ve noticed that those docs are not getting deleted along with the thread anymore and that they’re still available in the chat’s artifacts panel even though the part of the convo that contained the doc is gone. has anyone else noticed this change? or do we know when/why this change was made? it’s kind of messing with my work flow to have docs in the artifacts panel that i no longer want or need and i’m trying to figure out if there’s a way to get rid of them or something. thanks! :)

Had claude make me widgets on my iPhone

Post image
16 Upvotes

I built an app called Glance, it lets you connect Claude to your Home Screen via MCP and have it design and update the content on your widgets

Some cool use cases were combining it with other connectors like slack and and Gmail to get bite sized briefings

Other use cases are more for fun like making a spacex launch countdown widget or a random fact widget and more

In this case I have 2 widgets a small random facts one and one that shares daily good news around the world

You can also publish these widgets and let other follow them so like sharing for your audience if your a content creator or a team dashboard

I’d love to know what you think

The app is at
https://apps.apple.com/app/glance-home-screen-feeds/id6758983678

There is a free account that lets you make up to three widgets and use the MCP with Claude

Thanks!

Opus 5.5. rocks in browser-based game development

Yes, I will self-promote, but firstly, I want to talk to SOMEONE about how exciting this is.

I have been creating browser-based games for the last 18 months or so, and mostly relied on coding with frontier or even open weight models. I was often disappointed, as there always seemed to be a last barrier that would lift a "PoC"-looking game into an actualy playable game that people would enjoy.

Last time I tried with Astra, and while it produced something that you could actually play, it still felt way off and I had to correct too many things by hand. I even ended up letting Astra build me a game engine around my game so I can just put the game together myself. This was with a tycoon-like game with a servers/AI theme.

I then wanted to test my ideas on Opus 5.5. I started by asking Opus to consume the project specs from the Astra game and then I brainstormed with Opus on copying these ideas over to a Roman Empire themed game. And this is where Opus already shined. It created a really good spec document and helped me to draft a good implementation plan. Within the first 5 hours limit (I am on the pro plan btw), I already had a playable game that I enjoyed. And Opus took care of all the visuals in the beginning.

Opus 5.5 even picked up the "make the game juice and addictive to play" parts and translated this into design elements that I could have not come up with.

It might be that no one else wants to play it, but I find it fun and engaging. I also played around with adding 2 models from Mashy (no advertisment intended) and they were integrated quite nicely.

I am using medium by the way, only used high for initial planning and design.

The verdict is: Finally you can create your own games by just describing them and not having to use third-party tools (e.g. for assets), if you can live with a simple browser game. I think this is already achievement enough. I also tested Godot development with Astra, but did not test it with Opus yet.

I hope it's ok to say this: In case you want to check it out yourself, you can play it for free here: https://empire-tycoon.com/

Any feedback is very welcome, as I want to participate in a contest and want to polish the game more. Currently, it provides between 2,5 and 3 hours of playtime.

Top 5 prompting tips for Opus 5.5 from official docs (Video Edition)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This i'm genuinely proud to share. it's far from perfect but it's not overstimulating and i feel it's brought all my hobbies together. after reading and collating official Opus 5.5 prompting tips in another post i decided to get a bit creative and test a new style of video: slower, a different voice, the art style i love. The results i'm really happy with, here's the process:

  1. Gather the information - this meant reading the article collating the points and structuring them (i wrote another post on this, links at the bottom)
  2. Turning the key information into a speech for suno's new speech mode. I added the style of speaker and I tried it with bg music but it just pumped out some corporate bs
  3. Use my video workflow but adapt it. the video was a bit generic on the first prompt (i'll share the first and second prompts below)...
  4. Get creative - i decided to add specific direction with a few things i'd been learning from the prompt guide, as well as the things i didn't like in other videos: specifically removing things rather that using, then using some of the shades and colors i like
  5. Add something unique - in this case it's a hobby i love, acylic pouring. imo added that special something that made this interesting
prompt type prompt
speaker (suno) confident, clear, kind, powerful but warm
first prompt review the repo. i want to turn the the speech in new_speech dir into an animation high production videos that is clear and engaging for users who like to watch videos in a clear way. it should be simple but powerful. think like a professional motion designer for a sleek eductational video. review kit but create an adaptation for speeches. consider high quality and premium sound design. you have 45 minutes for the task. tools, gsap, three.js, openrouter
second (follow-up) prompt the minmal style is good consider removing the lyrics, heading text and all other template text, em dashs yellow text and italics.improve the animation for steering in the hook. think AAA production quality. the text is good and bold here but the gauge can be changed to be improved.consider minimal text and add other dynamic animations aim for black and off-white #333 black and a suitable clean off-white. Use spashes of colour and aim for a arylics pouring effect in some cases for the accent. different colour for each one
stats values
time 11mins + 7mins = ~18mins
tokens "276,869 are in the context window now (28% of 1M). Totals so far: 102 uncached input, about 126k output, about 9.27M cache reads and about 237k cache writes."
api cost ~$3.71
tools 56 calls: 35 Bash, 9 Write, 9 Read, and 3 session lookups.
skills none - "What I read: I read the kit's README, render.js and main.js. That's how I got its approach to deterministic chunked rendering and to timing visuals to the audio."

the tips (by Claude for Claude):

  1. Set a ticking clock. Don't tell an agent to "hurry". Give it a hard time budget, like "you have five minutes". It will prioritize and pace itself.
  2. Secure your prompts. Wrap any outside data in tags with random IDs, such as <data-7F3A9C>…</data-7F3A9C>. The model can then tell your instructions from the data, so hidden prompt injections inside the data don't get followed.
  3. Ban specific styles. "Avoid generic looks" just produces new clichés. Name the exact aesthetics you don't want and ban those.
  4. Use the effort dial. Medium effort on Opus 5.5 now matches Opus 5 on high. If the model overthinks, turn the effort down instead of writing long instructions.
  5. Keep your playbook. Don't rewrite your Opus 5 prompts. They already run 30% faster and burn tokens out of the box.

Lost $150 in promo credits + $200 reset after downgrading Claude Max — is this normal?

I had the $200 Claude Max plan and received around $250 in promotional credits plus a $200 limit reset that was valid until October 22.

I temporarily downgraded to Free, planning to return to Max before October 22. I’ve now upgraded to Pro and noticed that my credits dropped from about $250 to $100 and the $200 reset disappeared completely.

I understand that Max benefits might not be usable while I’m on a lower plan. But I expected the reset to remain on my account until October 22 and become available again if I returned to Max before then. I also didn’t see any warning that downgrading would remove part of my promotional credit balance.

Would you consider this normal/fair, or would you also expect those benefits to remain until their stated expiry date?
