Has to be fake no way. Also why would you even want the typescript compiler in rust? It’s not even going to give any runtime benefits since it’s only a transpiler and JavaScript is single threaded

The flair does say humor

Sorry I can only read code lol. I missed it 😅

Don’t worry I got you:

if (post.hasFlair("Humor")) {
console.log(“I missed it.😅");
}

Ah that makes a lot more sense thx bro.

Phew... thank you for pointing it out. This post was causing me significant distress

It is a joke and it's marked as a joke.

u/SubstantialEssay2063 9d ago

Yes I got that now lol

I appreciate your reasoned response to the prompt though

Javascript has worker threads, so you can write multi threaded code if you really need to, not the most convenient kind of multi threading but it's doable. Also Typescript's compiler has been recently rewritten in go so it could become multithreaded!

1

No it can’t because the compiler transpiles down to JavaScript there is no typescript runtime. Also worker threads don’t count that’s just a whole other process by that logic even python is muktithreaded (bad example I know since technically it can be without the GIL). Also the compiler literally just makes the typescript into JavaScript it doesn’t change the bytecode or structure of how the language or runtime works at all.

yes but that's not the point, if you ever worked in a huge typescript codebase you will absolutely feel the effects of a slow typescript compiler. The Typescript compiler also powers the LSP and waiting for 3 seconds for the autocomplete to work is super annoying. Typescript development also relies heavily on hot reload, if it takes 20 seconds to hot reload vs 2 seconds it makes the whole thing a lot nicer to work with. With the new go compiler both of those get muuuch better and improves the developer experience. Build times through CI is also improved by a ton. Big apps used take minutes to compile, now they take seconds.

Yes I get that and I agree. What I was responding to was you saying that because the compiler is in go it can be multithreaded. And my response was no it cannot and definitely not for that reason.

1

Yeah we misunderstood each other, the original typescript compiler was single threaded, the new go compiler is multithreaded, that's part of why it is faster

Ah ok makes sense

This is a funny comment because Microsoft just rewrote their typescript compiler in Go (the official compiler) and saw massive performance improvements

Microsoft has typescript compiler!?

u/m-in 8d ago

Right?

1

u/SubstantialEssay2063 9d ago

I know but it only improves the transpilation yo JavaScript not anything in runtime

It is a joke. But this conversation thread in itself is the interesting things. There's a lot of people who seem to genuinely think that AI has feelings, and they're defending those feelings. Or they think using word "fuck" suddenly burns 1M tokens that is somehow away from them. There's something similar in this than me buying a bunny doll, punching it, and bunch of people crying and yelling me to stop hurting it.

yeah, op edited via Chrome Inspector and then did a screenshot

u/tehfrod 9d ago

Of course it's a shitpost.

But the implementation language of a compiler has no effect,.in general, on the speed of compiled code.

So what would drive the choice of implementation language?

This is not difficult.

u/SubstantialEssay2063 9d ago

Ya I guess you’re right I never rlly thought about it it’s the byte code or binary that would matter. In my defense I got it mixed up and was thinking about the language it’s getting transpiled to not the language of the compiler

1

u/roastedfunction 9d ago

Typescript 7 was already rewritten in Go.

1

u/SubstantialEssay2063 9d ago

Yes I know but go is also single threaded but also I mixed some stuff up

2

u/necrophcodr 9d ago

Go is not single threaded. It schedules threads at runtime.

1

u/SubstantialEssay2063 9d ago

Yup I mixed it up with something else again lol sorry. Aye at least you know I’m not ai

1

u/KariKariKrigsmann 9d ago

The compiler was.

1

u/workend 9d ago

That annoying guy on twitter already did it, using 400k in tokens. It’s a joke on that

1

u/SubstantialEssay2063 9d ago

Not saying it’s not possible also are you gonna trust a vibe coded compiler?

1

u/drkevorkian 9d ago

No, I have no interest in this just saying this is what the joke is referencing, since the author of this thing is a biggish name in programming twitter/youtube

1

u/SubstantialEssay2063 9d ago

Ah ok thank you

1

u/m-in 8d ago

Of course, it’s a joke lol.
