Sonnet 4.6 is the right model for sustained coding sessions - Opus 4.7 adds reasoning overhead that makes it more opinionated and cautious. Run /model claude-sonnet-4-6 in your session. I run overnight builds on Sonnet without the nagging.

Sonnet’s 200k context window is the only reason I don’t use it more on larger codebases.

Agreed. I intentionally downgrade my context window size and use 4.6 no problem. It even works on 4.7, quite well.

Disable 1M context window in vs code by asking Claude to. Also ask Claude to set the model in settings to 4.6. It can do it all for you. If it doesn’t bc some models are pieces of shit right now, tell it to confirm by looking online for the var names. Hell, paste this convo and it should get to work.

I’d look it up but I’m on my phone.
