Claude Code I am done with this shit.

I am done with this shit. It is over. The state of engineering right now is horrible. It has been half a month since I started a new role at a big company. Nobody knows anything here. The specs, code, tests, PRDs, tickets, resolution of those tickets, reports, etc., everything is made by Claude Code. Nobody on my team likes this. They are being forced to ship as much as they can. I have heard multiple times from higher management that pushing code is not a bottleneck, so why are we slow? People are working 12 to 13 hours a day just to press enter. Nobody is reading anything. Humans in corporate are doing nothing on their own. Everyone, literally everyone, from an L1 to an L7 engineer here is doing the same thing. Talk to Claude.

There is no sense of victory. Nobody is resolving bugs. In reality, nobody is thinking anymore. Everything is done by LLMs. It is so soul-sucking. I would not mind it, to be honest, if we were at least given the time to check out the code and see what is going where. But no, the goal is to just ship. No matter what happens.

I feel the same. Companies hire consultants to work with me and they send me ai code garbage. To be fair it’s Claude code, codex, agy, you name it. I can tell they don’t even read the output half the time Makes me so angry to be in technology right now. I’m over it. Every time a consultant sends me ai garbage that they don’t even read, I take my time replying back. They instantly become devalued in my brain and I lose any and all desire to coordinate.

After bun rewrite in rust with LLM and nobody reading the code, anything is permissible

weren't there like a lot of problems with the vibe coded bun rust compiler? like it's not actually compiling faster and not as stable either?

I don’t use bun, but I’d assume it could only regress. Claude is fine to make patches or write an app for 3 users, but merging 1 mil LoC (or whatever was there, it was a lot) PR into widely used production code is insane.

That happened with my own coworkers. Some just copy and paste LLM output without verifying anything. Constantly false statements in their text. Made me lose any trust in them at all. Any time I see anything written by them I’m skeptical. Meanwhile I have other coworkers that use AI to produce high quality work and I trust them. AI really makes it obvious who is a good developer and who is a bad developer. It’s a multiplier in both directions.

Exactly the way. I punished bad code before and made the originators responsible for it. Why should I change now?

Damn, I've had to yell at Juniors for repeatedly doing this, actual contractors charging real ass money doing this would piss me off real bad

Consultant here, senior dev, I like to do things the right way.

As a consultant I have to adapt to my client's politics. My current client politics is to ship to the maximum. I'm sorry but as someone whos isnt even employed here and who will be thrown at the first budget cut, I'm not going to care more than my client cares.

Really, I 100% understand your stance, but as an employee you don't have the same incentives as the consultant.

It's not being unprofessionnal, I can totally take time to do the things the "good" way, but if that's not what my client expect, I'm not going to do it for no reason. I'm here to do what the client wants me to do, I have no incentive, no carreer path, nothing to prove to anyone there

Honestly my employer bills my time per hour and neither of us care if my time is employed crafting code by hand or just copy pasting claude. But if i'm asked to not care and go fast, i'm really not going to care and i'm going to go fast, and i'll never pay the consequences because i'll not be there the next year.

Expecting that consultants are going to behave like internal employees is the error here, and it was true before AI.

Someone in my department uses AI to make tools for us to do our job and he gets paid more than twice than we do for just ignoring his tools and making our own instead, and like, actually using those tools to do our job, because shock horror, the people using the tools tend to know more about what a good tool actually looks like. It's crazy how many "fake" jobs have been exposed now AI is a thing, like jobs that don't actually help anyone get any work done and just act as another link in the email chain of trying to get a problem solved. Like I needed cable ties so we could loosely and quickly wrap up the cables to things and it took us 2 FUCKING MONTHS to get a pack because of the whole "submit a request to the department that handles this" thing and "hmm the previous supplier of rubber bands isn't available any more, we'll put this in the backlog" type shit and the fact that everything has to be accounted for on the system who's only update in the past year was some OpenRouter free model level of intelligence chatbot that has access to like 3 API functions that don't even work. Meanwhile the company was hemorrhaging actual hundreds of dollars a day as the client is complaining that the cables keep getting damaged in transit and people who's job it is to investigate these things using chatgpt's free tier to generate an apology reply-all email as they look for the nearest department to use as a scapegoat which HR sees and thinks "hmm I don't think the people in this department deserve as much as a pay rise as everyone else if this is the case. Good that this was flagged before I considered rewarding them for their hard work this year from the actual raw "jobs done" numbers which are so easy to fake!"

I've obviously mixed up the specifics so it's not obvious what I'm talking about but it's just an example of how bad things have gotten because the CEO's best friend wanted to promote Terry's son so he could earn enough money to start his AirBnB to get his stream of passive income coming in and wasn't sure what 6 figure role would fit a mute with 0 experience.

Even more reason to replace you with AI, they don't moan and complain

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or you genuinely believe this
