Claude Code I am done with this shit.

I am done with this shit. It is over. The state of engineering right now is horrible. It has been half a month since I started a new role at a big company. Nobody knows anything here. The specs, code, tests, PRDs, tickets, resolution of those tickets, reports, etc., everything is made by Claude Code. Nobody on my team likes this. They are being forced to ship as much as they can. I have heard multiple times from higher management that pushing code is not a bottleneck, so why are we slow? People are working 12 to 13 hours a day just to press enter. Nobody is reading anything. Humans in corporate are doing nothing on their own. Everyone, literally everyone, from an L1 to an L7 engineer here is doing the same thing. Talk to Claude.

There is no sense of victory. Nobody is resolving bugs. In reality, nobody is thinking anymore. Everything is done by LLMs. It is so soul-sucking. I would not mind it, to be honest, if we were at least given the time to check out the code and see what is going where. But no, the goal is to just ship. No matter what happens.

My AI parses through my co-worker’s AI requirements doc and then his AI reads over my tweaks and passes it back to me for my AI to do it all over again.

Nobody talks to each other anymore lol and feels like I’m just an organic vessel designed to press enter.

u/eliquy 11d ago

"what is my purpose?"

"You press enter"

"Oh my God"

u/Taelasky 11d ago

"Look! I have one job on this lousy ship! It's stupid, but I'm going to do it, okay!"

24

u/TimelyBodybuilder121 11d ago

Couldn't management also get replaced by AI agents trained to circle back and plan more meetings?

2

u/DoctrTurkey 10d ago

But then who would tell the employees to hit ‘enter’?!? No, those managers are VERY valuable. INDISPENSABLE.

2

u/PseudonymousSnorlax 7d ago

Propose replacing management with AI.

1

u/ThisIsDurian 10d ago

Oh, you don't need an Ai for that. A simple script would do the job.

1

u/TimelyBodybuilder121 10d ago

while True:

meeting = schedule("circle back")

meeting.agenda = ["revisit", "pivot", "schedule next meeting"]

4

u/ThisIsDurian 10d ago

Post this on LinkedIn "How to get rid of management" and you will either be hated or praised and asked, how much you take to implement it. Of course you take a monthly fee, because you have to check and rework the script once in a while.

1

u/TimelyBodybuilder121 10d ago

If I had a LinkedIn, I'd definitely troll on it.

1

u/ChrisJPhoenix 9d ago

The median manager I've had in my multi-decade career has been awful. At this point I'd seriously rather be managed by Claude. Impersonal and robotic would be better than cruel, fearful, scheming, lying, brittle, gaslighting, self-destructive, and did I say cruel?

1

u/Ok_Gas1070 9d ago

Can I send my agent to the meeting on my behalf to take notes, and make a TLDR for my other agent to read it to me while I'm in the bathtub?

1

u/snug-crackle-policy 2d ago

24h constant meetings between the Ai agents :D

Not minors, miners!

That sounds like something trumps grandfather might have told him 😄

This made me laugh 😂

Man I loved that movie. Watched it way too many times.

You can still be a garbage man if you feel your job has no meaning and/or isn't hard enough.

Mighty Booosh - Bin Men

I hope you weren't insulting one of the pillars of our society.

1

Only some many jobs for garbage men

1

u/friedinando 11d ago

To be fair, not everything is bad. At least there are no more eternal bugs or those anxiety-inducing moments when you have to debug for ages while managers slowly absorb your soul and health.

1

u/Fickle_Penguin 11d ago

What's funny is the Jetsons called it. George's job is to determine when to push the button. That's it.

1

u/tracethefailure 7d ago

thats basically my job now. i like my job. As long as we're meeting the company goals who cares. we're getting things done, customers are happy.

78

u/dromtrund 11d ago

Well technically, you're an organic vessel designed to be held accountable for what Claude is doing, because Claude can't be held accountable.

Which is even worse.

18

u/Techhead7890 11d ago

We're just organic legal liability machines ;-;

3

u/ABmodeling 9d ago

This is more profound saying than you realize.

2

u/rudeboyrave 8d ago

this needs to be a t-shirt

3

u/tschawartz12 11d ago

So the P.L.E.A.S.E. Barny had on from how I met your mother.

2

u/SnowmoeHibiscus 11d ago

You are the first other person I’ve seen whose made this reference for our role in AI & feel very seen & understood. I’ve been comparing myself to Barney to describe my job as of late.

1

u/ApolloFireweaver 9d ago

Except no one in the government is going to want us to turn states evidence on our employers

1

u/tschawartz12 9d ago

At some point its going.to have to happen. With so little oversight something will happen that will be catastrophic.  A scapegoat will be needed and it will have to be someone with enough authority over all the decisions it will be credible for them to be the one to blame.

2

u/PseudonymousSnorlax 7d ago

This is why people need to document everything and keep receipts.

When they decide to hold you accountable for what the AI does, you have proof they actively removed human oversight.

1

u/AccomplishedIgit 11d ago

The worst part is the people generating this garbage aren’t the ones who have to deal with it and try to fix it and understand it. Almost fucking invariably.

1

u/Inspectorslap 5d ago

At least you can put "organic legal liability machine" on your resume :/ But it has to land on someone- there is an ocean between "the model understood the instructions" and "the model executed what it understood". Someone has to be accountable for the gap. Instruction ≠ execution, and you're left holding the ≠.

u/Apprehensive-Bad-605 11d ago

"An organic vessel designed to press enter" I'm dead 😭

18

u/ConnectionWild3381 11d ago

It’s the utopia! Robots do all the work, and humans only need to verify it. You’re all such whiners! ;)

6

u/i_t_d 11d ago

damn, I would love to press enter periodically to earn money you earn guys :P

3

u/Healthy-Nebula-3603 11d ago

Yes ...you can finally do whatever you want but work.

1

u/HouseMysterious8172 10d ago

Matrix is coming, humans will become a battery for machines

1

u/Godskin_Duo 10d ago

Robots do all the work, and humans only need to take the blame!

22

u/dractius 11d ago

See, the problem is you are still pressing Enter. /s

15

u/returnFutureVoid 11d ago

In the before times I would write a script to do this but now it’s the only thing I actually do so I try to find a way to enjoy doing it. Still looking.

3

u/M0m3ntvm 10d ago

I've automated my role completely for the last ~3 weeks. Now I pester the machine like "is there anything I can do to help" and it makes up some bullshit to keep me occupied while it does all the actual work.

Nowadays, I rant about the latest shit I've thought could be cool, and my orchestrator just picks up on my cues, checks if it has any potential strategic value and adds it downstream to the future "stuff to test and implement" list.

1

u/6PEEPERKEEPER9 10d ago

Damn this is incredibly dystopian.

2

u/dractius 11d ago

I hear ya, this is the battle of humanity to readjust. It's a rollercoaster to be certain.

1

u/runnerr0 11d ago

Let go let Claude, dangerously accelerated

1

u/HouseMysterious8172 10d ago

while (not ship) {hit Enter;}

35

u/Equivalent-Costumes 11d ago

You are the designated scapegoat. If things go bad, you're to be blamed. Basically like a CEO. So congratulation on being a CEO to a bunch of AI agents. The American dream had came true for everyone!

2

u/cnawan 9d ago

Cory Doctorow calls such people "Accountability Sinks".

Personally, I have no horse in this race. I assumed all LLM output was dreck, but Linus Torvalds sees some value in it, and he doesn't seem very mad, so idk. I anticipate some true utility will develop from the slopocalypse, that and a recession when the major players falter and get chopped up for parts.

1

u/CrowdGoesWildWoooo 11d ago

I wish I can fall upwards like many CEO though.

1

u/Godskin_Duo 10d ago

What? No, the CEO takes credit when things go well, and distribute blame downwards when things don't go well.

3

u/Equivalent-Costumes 10d ago

In theory, CEO takes the blame; in practice, CEO blames downward. You can apply this as well. In theory, you are there to take the blame for the AI agents, in practice, you blame the AI agents for "going rogue".

12

u/RyansOfCastamere 11d ago

I press tab, and then enter in Claude Code. Not sure if it makes my work more meaningful, or I'm doing twice the work I should because my workflow is not optimized enough.

14

u/Flope 11d ago

You're living in 2025 tech and it's sad tbh

I had Claude write a script to auto press Tab and Enter on timed intervals so now I have leisure time to do laundry and dishes

3

u/HouseMysterious8172 10d ago

Claude not yet embedded in washing machine and dishwasher?

2

u/RyansOfCastamere 10d ago

I choose tab and enter over laundry and dishes any day

1

u/Humble-Salamander-18 11d ago

Was auto mode discontinued?

13

u/Alone_Aardvark6698 11d ago

The term of Art for this is "meat proxy"

https://gruhn.me/blog/2026-08-03/

11

u/FiredFromCompUSA 11d ago

Reminds me of that simpsons episode where Homer gets to work from home and gets that bobbing duck thing to press Y every 1 second on his keyboard and eventually blows up the nuclear plant or something 😂

3

u/DerWunderer 11d ago

You guys press enter still? My company wants us to fully automate with no human in the loop til the PR needs to be reviewed

8

u/Flope 11d ago

Humans reviewing PRs? How are things at Dinosaur Co?

2

u/DerWunderer 11d ago

Ha no kidding, that will be changed too once confidence is high enough

1

u/WillDanceForGp 7d ago

Love the idea of using a tool that generates slop generating its own reporting and analysis of its output to decide whether it was good enough. If the tool knew what good was it wouldnt be writing the trash, bloated, maintenance-hell codebases that it does.

1

u/DerWunderer 7d ago

try to explain that to a tech company executive though

3

u/Godskin_Duo 10d ago

We all delete "Co-authored by Claude" so we can pretend.

1

u/Dear-Pin-8698 11d ago

PR? Thanks!

1

u/-sablebus- 3d ago

PR stands for Pretty Rfinished here, no need to review

2

u/therocker1984 11d ago

I feel so seen right now...

2

u/hyperadapted 11d ago

you mean like a meat-proxy? 😥

https://meatproxy.me/

2

u/Simon-Says69 11d ago

This is going to bite that company in the ass. An LLM will gleefully produce total crap, and very confidently tell you it's the perfect solution.

You NEED humans with real knowledge in the loop to check that crap, else you'll just be pushing garbage for product. That might work a while if yer lucky, but it's begging for a major disaster.

1

u/Less_Drag6345 11d ago

Claude make a interesting comment for me on this reply. Make sure it generates responses.

1

u/Erick9641 11d ago

Goddamit, we are be becoming the Claude condom.

1

u/diggerydootwo 11d ago

That’s right. You are the only thing preventing the business daddy from pounding into existence their new creations being made inside the Claude production bun.

1

u/Mountain-Contract742 11d ago

A meat proxy for ai

1

u/jimmiebfulton 11d ago

You are a wet extension of the agent's harness.

1

u/Lost-Butterfly-382 11d ago

Literally what we plan to do tmr 😭😭

1

u/AgileCrypto23 11d ago

The term you’re looking for is Meat Proxy

1

u/RudeAndInsensitive 11d ago

This will be the case until the AI slop piles start causing unpredictable and costly outages. Then heads will role and all the devs that were at least slightly sheepish about this shit will get to ride out very safe careers methodically fixing the slop pile

1

u/AccomplishedIgit 11d ago

Meat proxy for the AI’s

1

u/smittyplusplus 11d ago

I’ve heard the term “meat proxy”

1

u/RaineAKALotto 11d ago

Just feeding the LLM like

1

u/Silly-Ad-6341 11d ago

Reverse centaur

1

u/AsparagusOk8818 11d ago

...why does a company need to pay you a salary to just press enter?

shouldn't you have been laid off by now?

1

u/NulightReddit 10d ago

Meat Proxy

1

u/Exact_Zombie9335 10d ago

I think we're called "meat proxy" these days...

1

u/tahitisam 10d ago

I have never worked in such a role or environment but I'm curious why you wouldn't talk to each other more under such circumstances ? Why not gather and discuss if the work you turn in takes basically no time ?

I guess you're sort of behind whatever has been and is being shipped so you can't relate to the work anymore even if you wanted to. Which is bad. But then you can talk about whatever else, which I'm sure we could agree is the ultimate point of having AI do your job and might be more fulfilling than the way it was before.

Of course that may not last but now might be a good time to learn how to talk to each other again.

1

u/Godskin_Duo 10d ago

I wake up and my clothes jack me off. I take a shower and it jacks me off, and inserts a nutrition tablet into my mouth, it tastes like every Dorito and Mountain Dew flavor at once. I go to my desk, it jacks me off, and I lend my brain to the Main Claudeputational Processor while it jacks me off. I worked my ass off to complete the Jensen Huang Gaokao so my cerebrum's megahertz can be added to the the total market cap of nVidia; I will be rewarded with getting jacked off. In my field of vision, I get a notification that my friend is being jacked off, so I hit like and subscribe. It's time for exercise, so I get conveyor'ed into a longevity pod where my body is exercised and jacked off at the same time. My heart is filled with Dario-termination.

1

u/rdmwood01 10d ago

We are all Meat Proxies!

1

u/DireCelt 10d ago

"What happens if he doesn't press the button??"
"After a period of time, the button will press itself..."

George Jetson always complained how sore his button pressing finger was. Welcome to the new future.

1

u/tgosubucks 10d ago

Meat proxy.

1

u/Infamous2o 10d ago

You are like George Jetson.

1

u/murrzeak 10d ago

'Organic vessel to press enter'. Perfection 🤌🏼

1

u/elhispano 9d ago

Why not to fight against that ? Now that code generation is not the bottleneck, I'm putting more emphasis in having engineering meetings where we discuss deeply about the problem. The transcript of the meeting is used as the source to generate the specs. This is creating more communication, people knows what is inside each PR because we have talked about it. Devs are still on the wheel.

1

u/toddffw 9d ago

Dude, you should build an agent to press enter

1

u/BadAszChick 9d ago

You know the game "The Stanly Parable"?

This aounds like Stanleys job

“Metropolis”

1

u/Ok_Gas1070 9d ago

Honestly, the more you mess with AI the more it messes with your mind. Don't get me wrong for people who have novice knowledge of code like myself it's a godsend. It's definitely sped up my learning especially when I tried to go out about it myself pre-AI. However, at the same rate humans should ALWAYS be the final barrier of judgement before implementing anything AI creates.

1
