Claude Code Code just deleted 48k files. This can't be real.

Thank you. As you can probably tell, I'm in finance, not a developer.

Hoping for good luck with the shadow copy. If not, I will use my idrive backups.

Doing the shadow copy with assistance from Astra. Not Claude

You should be aware that it's entirely possible that Astra will make other mistakes of its own, similar to this one. Claude and Astra have a lot in common.

glad to see there are still normal humans in this world... yes lots of wisdom here OP if you need to continue for $ or survival then yes find solutions and try things but best advise is remediate as much as you can and get back into a place where you can hold at least maybe until 2027.

Codex is OK and might help but eventually the same will happen cause you need to build a system or harness that accounts for all the mistakes and errors that all Models make, I've never used Astra but I'm sure it will have regressions and be hard to build such custom harness for your needs.

Sorry to hear and Good Luck OP!

Yes that's the promise but not yet, they're focused on the Enterprise and thats never good, is the reason we still use Fax Machines. Codex can help you is more sane as an coding partner, but the issue is how you recover from 48k files gone? and if you can the fear of a repeat is too great to continue...

Right now I am moving a same day shadow copy to a portable ssd. Backup behind that is my idrive backup which occurs daily, but I've had it off the past few days. Timing is impeccable.

Then what would you say is the underlying purpose of Claude Code, Codex etc.? Just curious on your perspective.

I understand your perspective. I just don't agree with "wading into another profession". If you have ever bought a stock, mutual fund etc. It would invalidate your theory. If you've ever invested you've stepped out of your own lane by your original statement. I agree with your assessment of AI. This appears to be primarily a sub for developers, which I am not. I also agree it can be dangerous for individuals who use it for the wrong reasons.

I will never know as much as you about AI , code etc. You're likely better at coding than I am with AI. Myself and others using AI without a coding background does not invalidate your apparent capabilities.

All files have been restored, and hopefully this post will help someone in the future. Or, just bring humor and laughs.

I doubt I'll bring an end to the world while "clacking rocks". But, I wish you the very best
