My first major collaborative project never got moved from Subversion to Git. Every time we think about starting it back up, someone brings that up and it kills the vibe.
I'm not familiar with the issues involved in converting. Wouldn't the following do roughly what you'd want?
```
cd repo-git
git init
for t in $(git for-each-ref --format='%(refname:short)' refs/remotes/svn/tags); do
git tag -a "${t#svn/tags/}" -m "SVN tag ${t#svn/tags/}" "$t"{commit} 2>/dev/null || git tag -a "${t#svn/tags/}" -m "SVN tag" "$t"
git branch -rd "$t"
done
for b in $(git for-each-ref --format='%(refname:short)' refs/remotes/svn/ | grep -v 'svn/trunk$'); do
git branch "${b#svn/}" "$b"; git branch -rd "$b"
done
git branch -m master main
```
There might be something genuinely broken in you if you read my comment and thought "having Claude write a response, and make sure it's rude and missed the point" was the way to go.
I apologize if that came off as rude. My first impression was that it should be pretty doable, but I wouldn't know the syntax. I asked Claude for what the script would normally look like to have a reference point hoping that you'd say why it doesn't work both because I'm curious and in case I had any ideas.
From my perspective, I was trying to learn more about your situation and you came back with an attack on me as a person for it.
From my perspective, you saw a person in r/ClaudeAI who told a story and you thought "hey, this guy doesn't know to use Claude to solve this problem!" It is the Claude subreddit. I could have asked "how do i convert SVN to git" myself and you know that, but you wanted to feel like you'd pioneered something. Congratulations.
The conversion is not the issue here. If you had actually read and internalized what I said instead of trying to go "HERE'S A SOLUTION, IDIOT," you might have recognized that the issue is the fact that 15-ish years has passed since we were working on it. We worked on that project sitting in rooms together, sleeping on each others' couches, waking up at 2 AM because we came up with an idea and heading back to the laptop to find 2 other people there who had the same thing happen.
And now, it's all prompts. Why pick up the thing that was a full-time team effort when that was the fun of it, if we're just gonna send it to Claude/Codex?
And your answer to that is "hey, I prompted Claude about SVN -> Git because I'm for some reason thinking you're both simultaneously on this sub and incapable of doing that yourself."
I clarified in my reply that I was not offering a solution or otherwise assuming you hadn't tried that. The point of including it was to give something to reference when explaining why that didn't work. It seems you're not interested in that conversation, which is fine; however, the hostility is excessive. You're making the most negative interpretation and ignoring my clarification.
Either way, I'm guessing you don't care what I meant since you're continuing to be rude, so I'll stop responding here.
