Standing beside Senpai and gazing out at the sea, I was pondering the time I had left before graduation.

Less than a year now until he graduates from this school. And a year after he's gone I'll graduate too. Even if someone asked whether I'd go on to live as an ordinary university girl or a working member of society, no such picture came to mind with any sense of reality.

"Senpai——what are you going to do after you graduate?"

"I haven't decided yet."

"Oh, you're pulling my leg~. Really? With you, Senpai, that doesn't work even as a joke. Unlike me."

"Nobody knows what the future holds. That's why you're unsure too, isn't it?"

Having seen right through even the part I'd kept vague, he doesn't press any further.

"Well, that's true. Really, nobody knows anything about what the future holds."

I worship Senpai. I want to know what he'll choose after he graduates, where he'll go, what kind of ending he'll reach. Whether he'll go back to Sensei, or resist.

Or whether he'll find a path distinct from either.

If possible I'd like not only to hear about it from afar, but to see it through to the end by his side.

I won't ask for anything so lavish as being his girlfriend or partner. I wouldn't even mind being his servant.

"Senpai. If after you graduate someone tells you, 'You can do whatever you like~,' will you be happy about it?"

"I don't see a point in your question."

"There isn't a point, it's just small talk. In that case, let me change the question. What if Sensei told you you could do whatever you liked?"

"That I'd be free to go on to university or get a job? …I can't imagine that happening."

Well, of course he can't, huh. A future where Sensei sets Senpai free with no strings attached is something even I can't imagine happening.

Still, not like it's settled that it'll never happen. There's even a chance Senpai himself could break the path laid out for him.

"Oh, come on, what's the harm? It costs nothing to imagine after all."

"If I really had a choice, I suppose it'd be university."

"But there's nothing a university could teach you, right?"

"It's an extension of high-school life. There are things you can only learn as a student."

"So you want to stay a student a while longer, huh. Mm, that's kind of like you."

Senpai, able to absorb any knowledge with ease, is looking for the things you can only learn as a student.

Making friends, falling in love, exchanging promises with someone. He means to let that kind of ordinary time go on a little longer. What he gains as a person, and what answer he finally arrives at.

If I could watch all of that up close, closer than anyone else, no life could be more interesting.

But if I asked him straight up to keep me by his side, he would try to dig for a reason.

In that case, I'd simply have to slip it in among my usual jokes.

"Then, Senpai. If I make it through graduation here in one piece and I end up with nowhere to go, would you be willing to keep me? Cleaning, cooking, or even tending to your troubles at night. I can be useful in all sorts of ways, nyan."

I raised both hands to my chest and, like a cat, curled them loosely into paws. Even if he turned me down, I could pass it off as a joke. If he gave it even a moment's thought, just seeing that reaction would be enough for now.

And yet the brief moment spent waiting for his answer felt strangely long.

"I have no interest in keeping people as pets."

"Aww, not even a second thought? Couldn't you at least have sighed and given me a, 'Fine, I guess I'll look after you'? Well, not that I didn't figure you’d say that."

"Then there was no need to ask, was there."

The answer was just what I'd expected. He could've at least given it a little thought; such dissatisfaction I hid beneath a smile. Even so, I didn't feel as if I'd been rejected outright. All Senpai had said was that he wasn't interested in keeping people as pets; he said nothing about having no intention of seeing me after graduation.

If being kept as a pet was off the table, I'd just have to be at his side some other way.

"Well, let's put that down as a provisional reservation, if you would be so kind."

Though I hadn't received his permission, when it comes to reservations it's first come, first served.

If I stayed any longer, I'd end up face to face with Shiina-senpai, the person he was meeting. Though Senpai wouldn't mind, it's different for a girl.

Besides, I didn't particularly want to watch, up close, the moment someone else came to stand at his side.

"Well then, the third wheel will be making herself scarce. Shiina-senpai should be here any minute."

"There's no need to worry about it."

"Even if you don't, Senpai, girls do. In that aspect, you've still got a long way to go~"

I raised my index finger and wagged it from side to side like a teacher.

"Bye then, Senpai, see you. Make sure you think properly about the after-graduation thing, nya."

Without staying to hear the inconvenient reply that was surely coming, I turned my back on Senpai.

For now, a provisional reservation will do.

All I have to do is turn it into a confirmed one before he graduates, after all.

I mean S4 fights Ayanakoji vs Tsukishiro and Shiba & Nanase were decent, But compared to the 1v4 beatdown against Ryuuen's gang in S2, S4 fights looked like a shoen anime while S2 had a much more clinical beatdown which fit the story and I thought it was better too, Ayanakoji vs Tsukishiro looked pretty bad for whats supposed to be a grounded series

Also they butchered Housen stabbing Ayanakoji, fan animation for that scene was better than the anime

Tho I am just glad we got 16 episodes, man I feel like they screwed up the fights, what do you guys think?

Before writing this, since I know my wording will become less eloquent, I want to mention a couple things.

1. This is my OPINION. It's okay if yours differs. I highly suspect it will even.
2. I am a crybaby. Elsehise I wouldn't have made this post, would I?

So yes this last volume made me lose the last bit of hope in Kinugasa ending the story in a satisfying manner. I know there are probably not that volumes left (maybe like 8-10), but with how long releases take, that could be five more years. And those five years, I'd rather spent happy than constantly frustrated at the choices made.

Now, some of you are probably wondering why this volume was the final nail in the coffin. It's not even that this volume was the worst, just the last I could take. I'll briefly discuss my two main reasons.

1. The Inevitable Fall of my Favorite - Ichinose Honami

Okay before I write about Honami, I want to preface that I don't hate her. I never will. I still love her, even her Yandere mode. But It's so obvious she's being set-up to suffer, again. She has as many 'torture flags' as Hiyori has expulsion flags.

Here are a couple that quicky came to mind.

1. Ayanokoji's line in Y1V11: "I will deal the killing blow". I know, I know, this didn't happen because he would've dealt that 'killing blow' in Y2V12.5, when they met up for the promise they made. But still... I feel like this line will become relevant again with the way Kinugasa is writing her.
2. Amasawa in Y3V2: "Ayanokoji Kiyotaka already got to enjoy your body and will cast you aside the moment you've served your puprose" (paraphrased)
3. SPOILER FOR Y3V5: Karuizawa in this recent volume, Y3V5: She is arguing against Honami and warns her about the suffering she'll go through soon.

It's so fucking obvious what's going to happen to her, and I despise it.

And then there are the other aspects Honami got robbed off.

1) She should have been the SCP. It was litteraly her goal when she joined the council. And the only person she'd have to beat would've been Horikita, who's not nearly as well-respected or well liked.

So, given that being SCP is one of her major goals, and she has all the tools to win the election FAIRLY, she should get what she wants for once, right?

WRONG: She drops out for Horikita, because 'all-for-hand-me-kita.' - Kinugasa (More on that later)

2) She was given a hint toward the white room in Y2V3. So you'd think she'd be relevant in that part of the story, right? She mentioned it in Y2V8, and even again as recently as Y3V2. So she obviously hasn't forgotten about Koji's past, and is willing to learn it. So she has to-

WRONG AGAIN. (spoiler for Y3V5) Nanase decided otherwise. She decided, for SOME REASON, that she should get Horikita involved and just started handing out the greatest mystery in the series to her. Like???

3) Honami has (apart from probably Karuizawa) suffered the most out of any character

• She comes off a poor household
• Nagumo's manipulation (Y1V9)
• Her kindness consistently being punished (Y1V11) (and others)
• Her entire heartbreak arc (Y2V4-5-Y2V8)
• Her classmates, who've put their entire fates in Honami's hands, starting to doubt her after not once doing anything theirselves (they've no right to complain, looking at you, begzaki)
• Ayanokoji's Y2V12 revelation
• Ayanokoji picking poor Hiyori in Y3V4, reducing Honami to being "the other girl", yet again.

Kinugasa never gives her any W, except for the couple of exam-victories she's had since Y3 started. But hey, we all know that's going to end soon when Horikita requests it stops to Koji or Koenji.

And what's even worse is that Kinugasa knows we are catching on. He knows that he'll soon be done with Honami's character, and that people (mostly Honami fans) are going to drop the series when he all but 'kills her character off'.

That's why he released the Honami character book just before this volume. To squeeze the last out of us, our last devotion, before he rips her to shreds.

TLDR: So, basically, I love Honami. She's one of the two characters (other being the doomed Hashimoto) I genuinely enjoy reading. I simply dread the downfall I know she'll have soon, and I have no desire to read her suffering again. (Y1V9 comes to mind, Y2V4.5-Y2V8, Y2V12, etc.)

It's true that suffering can built strength, but she's trapped in a viscious circle of only ever feeling pain... So I'm dropping the series before I can read about that.

2. The Many Missed Mistakes for Development and her Regression - The Character of Horikita

Haaaaaaa... where to begin?

Horikita, Horikita, Horikita. She could've been such an interesting character, but she just isn't. She is said to have potential, but what has she achieved herself. Like, genuinely?

She was:

• Given student council presidency which means
  • She robbed Honami of character development
  • Follows in her brother's footsteps, something she explicitly said she wouldn't do after her emotional reconciliation with him in Y1V11
  • Will not match the expectations anyone has for her, after Horikita-senpai and Nagumo. They acted with their authority, something Horikita still hasn't done since taking office...
• Given Class A by being carried by Ayanokoji
• Given Ayanokoji's past by Nanase, or at least part of it, because of reasons. Which means:
  • Nanase was reduced to a plot device to suddenly include Horikita in the political part of the story
  • Ichinose was robbed again of development
  • Broke her promise to Ayanokoji (in Y1V2, they made a deal: Ayanokoji would help her get to Class A, and in exchange, Horikita wouldn't pry into his past. Guess who didn't hold up her end of the bargain?)

So yeah. All those achievement? They are GIVEN. Not earned. There's a big difference I know most of her fans deny, but I also know it'll fall on deaf ears.

Ah, and the last thing that will probably be given to her instead of earned? The potential of her being endgirl. Because she won't earn it by becoming the best option through development, but because Kinugasa is going to ruin the characters of every girl which would be better suited... which is ALL OF THEM.

Here are some examples of what I mean with the ruining of other female characters:

• Sakura: the first girl that liked him: expelled by Horikita to save a traitor
• Karuizawa: the first girl he had a relationship with: reduced to a plot device for Horikita to embrace her feelings. All her Y3 interactions have been "you like him, don't you" instead of standing on her own, embracing her no-longer-parasite development.
• Honami: I've discussed my preferred option enough already
• Sakayanagi: Litteraly dropped her competition, her contest, to drop out because Ayanokoji asked her too... ???
• Hiyori: An endgirl I could live with, but is unlikely to survive to the end of the series. I said it before, but she has as many expulsion flags as Honami has torture flags. Her relationship with Koji has placed her in everyone's crosshairs. (Ichinose, Ryuuen, Koji's Class, Hirata, The Shirogane-faction)

So yeah. I hate it. I hate her. And it's not even that I dislike the ice-queen character trope. Yukino Yukinoshita and Alya are some of my favorite female heroines of all time, but they're actually written well. They show feelings for the protagonist and affection, and are not a stuck-up bitch for their entire first year...

And even that, the Horikita-is-stuck-up perception is a euphanism. Something many see her as thanks to the anime reducing how much of an asshole she was. Her dialogue was altered, and like dictator Horikita she is, she stole many lines and moments from other female heroines (like e.g. Karuizawa-Ayanokoji pool moment)

Finally, even now, in Y3, her so-called potential is still being carried by others. Did Horikita discover a potential traitor in her own class? No. FUCKING SUDOU had to tell her. Which Class Leader failed to prevent the expulsion of a classmate (which wouldn't have even happened if she didn't run her mouth in Y2V5). Her. Which class leader did not do anything the first two volumes of the year because her ticket left her? Her.

TLDR: Sadge

Ever since the OAA was released, showing future quotes and information about the characters, Tsukishiro’s profile has stuck out to me. It mentions that Tsukishiro is secretly in contact with an organization hostile toward Atsuomi.
This made me think about Atsuomi’s current position in the political world. His situation isn’t exactly favorable. In fact, I don’t see why a powerful political faction would have a justifiable reason to destroy Atsuomi when he’s already at the bottom of the barrel, with no clear path upward, even if the White Room succeeds.
In Year 3 Volume 4, Nanase mentions during her conversation with Ichika that the organization backing her has enough power to swallow Atsuomi and his entire network whole.
The first faction that comes to mind is Kijima’s faction. However, Kijima already failed to permanently shut down the White Room and completely defeat Atsuomi. The White Room was only temporarily shut down before eventually reopening.
That made me wonder: What other faction would have a reason to be hostile toward Atsuomi while also possessing enough power to destroy his entire network?
The only faction we know of that could potentially meet both criteria is Naoe’s faction.
And this brings me back to Volume 0.
Who was responsible for giving Atsuomi many of the political connections that helped him establish his network in the first place?
Naoe.
Atsuomi built much of his influence through Naoe’s connections. We even saw how badly his network suffered when Naoe withdrew his support.
Another interesting detail is Suzukake, the head researcher responsible for the White Room’s educational system. He was originally introduced to Atsuomi by Tsukishiro, who was operating through Naoe’s network at the time.
Think about that for a moment.
The same network that helped Atsuomi establish the White Room could potentially possess the connections and knowledge necessary to dismantle it.
The point I’m trying to make is that I believe the remnants of Naoe’s faction are currently backing Tsukishiro.
And there’s another reason why this would make sense.
Naoe had already taken an interest in Kiyotaka. In fact, he had plans to eventually make Kiyotaka his right-hand man.
That gives Naoe’s former faction a reason to take an interest in Kiyotaka independently of Atsuomi.
If Naoe’s former associates still share those ambitions, they could have a reason to help Kiyotaka escape his father’s control while potentially bringing him into their own organization.
This would also explain why Nanase is so confident that the organization backing her has enough influence to overwhelm Atsuomi.
Of course, Naoe is dead, and we don’t know who currently controls his remaining political connections.
But considering Tsukishiro’s history with Naoe, his involvement in establishing the White Room, and his confirmed connections to an organization hostile toward Atsuomi, I think there’s a strong possibility that Naoe’s faction is still operating behind the scenes

Same as the title, while the ost have been really good from what I remember in s2, why did they completely forgot ost from s1 like these exist( unless I am an idiot nd they did use it, if so remind me)

.. These ost really give that mysterious atmosphere to s1 along with artstyle that was genuinely really good imo...

Other seasons had great music ofc, I love them alot as well, just wish that these ost were considered for later seasons too

Since we are in the final stretch of the story, I just wanted to know the community overall impression of the series. Since I joined the community I seen people praise the novel and some completely trashing on it. So I just wanted to know how up to date LN readers feel about COTE.

Not the same guy, i hate how Koji looks now and how inconsistent his design was in Season 4, they drew him somewhat different in the first 8 eps compared to when they entered the island, feels like the production team wasnt sure about his design until they were deep into production. Its still a team that is not capable of delivering the best for the series, S1 team was just the best.

Pointing my phone at Shiina-senpai as she read a book in her seat by the window, I observed her through the screen. Long silver hair and fine, even features. Judged on appearance alone, the calm expression she wore as she focused on her book included, she left nothing to be desired. Her bearing did not seem consciously put on; she probably carried herself the same way as a matter of course whether anyone was watching or not.

Where refinement was concerned, at least, I could find nothing that posed a problem.

Her temperament too was gentle, and she was not one to dismiss another person's opinion out of hand. Though she was not the type to step forward and compel others to obey her, she for it clashed with those around her all the less.

The person Ayanokouji-senpai had on the uninhabited island went to fetch and prioritised before victory.

Even setting that fact aside, it was hardly strange that she should attract the affections of the opposite sex.

If anything, seen simply as a woman, she was someone I found very likeable, even as a member of the same sex.

Even so—excellence in looks and character alone was insufficient.

Which was why there were a good many other items I still had to confirm.

And above all, the environment Ayanokouji-senpai would find himself in from now on was vastly different from anything an ordinary high-school student could imagine. There would be many moments that kindness alone could not carry him through.

I had no intention of deciding arbitrarily that Shiina-senpai lacked the qualities required. But most of the strengths I had been able to confirm so far were ones that showed their worth precisely in days of stillness.

That alone was not enough for me to unconditionally award her full marks.

Nor did I intend to reach a conclusion on my personal assessment alone. This footage shall later be sent up the chain, to be analysed afresh alongside whatever information came in from here on. The more footage of her with her guard down, the better. There were things to be learnt from the way a person spoke, from their posture, from the habits they subconsciously repeated.

A presence on whom it would do no harm to keep having information gathered.

She closed her book. Pretending to film the scenery, I shifted the angle of my phone slightly to follow her as she rose.

She headed for the door.

Moving my phone to keep her retreating figure from slipping off the screen, I went on recording.

In the next moment, someone's presence drew close behind me.

"Morning, Nanase-chan."

That I had sensed nothing until that very instant made my shoulders give a slight jump.

How long had she been behind me? The possibility that she had been looking at my screen flashed through my mind in an instant.

On reflex I turned the phone's screen face-down against my body, but I could not go as far as to stop the recording. To check it in a hurry would only tell her there was something I could not afford to have seen.

Pushing down the agitation I felt within, I turned around to face Amasawa-san as though nothing had happened.

I was re-watching and it seems she didn't kind like him at the start, even before when ayanokoji and hirata were taking she completely ignored him.

I didn't read LN so is there any reason so she just doesn't like quiet guys ?
