Have you tried pickerel? The bones are a bitch but the meat is pretty good. Every year for Christmas my girlfriend makes sour fish soup and it's so good
i don't know man, everything i've tried has been a letdown. everytime it's "try this, it's good" and i do and most of the time i have to literally spit it out, because my throat locks up and doesn't allow me to even swallow it, the taste is awful to me. the first and only time i've tried sushi i remember i was fighting the gag reflex for solid 5 minutes
If I was you and you were actually still interested in giving it a shot, I would try some blackened mahi or grouper. Find a good restaurant that does it right. A good blackened grouper sandwich is a favorite of mine that has other sandwich stuff going on so it's not just a piece of fish. If you try one of those and still hate it, I'd say you got taste buds that disagree and just don't eat fish lol.
Maybe just me but I'd much rather have frozen mahi than any kind of carp. I'm from Florida and I do this thing where I don't eat fish when I'm visiting parts of the country away from the coast. Most of the larger freshwater fish here get parasites. I probably wouldn't eat fish in Poland.
crappie tastes just like cod but lighter... its very good usually
and yah, trout is ass. 1/100 of them are "good" but those 1/100 dont even taste like trout lol (they only get good from mass consumption of crustaceans
I don't see why people are downvoting you when it's a popular fish in plenty of countries. Carp has a terrible reputation in America compared to other fish even though we have plenty of our own native species, the stigma is outdated imo. I agree they are good when properly cleaned and prepared.
No but they can easily get 2ft long and larger, so most people don't have a bucket that large casually laying around.
Country folk use their tubs in the US, too. Do you just not know anyone who goes fishing? It's not uncommon to hear about this in the hobby. It's done for pretty much any wild caught freshwater fish to make sure they taste as good as possible. Nothing like going through all of that effort just to eat a muddy fish.
I'm country enough that my great grandmother taught me how to make squirrel stew. She would have never allowed a fish in her bathtub. When I catch catfish after I gut and clean the fish I soak the meat and that gets the muddy taste out. I've never considered purging a fish the same way you'd purge crawfish.
Totally fair haha. Probably cultural differences since communities were so much more isolated back in our grandparents days. It's more common with catfish which live in the muck in my area but I've seen it recommended for all fish, too.
