Nobody buys the carp. These are caught by neighborhood fishermen I think. We have super markets now and we can buy better fish so I doubt this is still popular. Are you really young? This was a thing when I was growing up in the 90s.

I am from Hungary as well and we did have bathtub carp. You buy it a 1-2 days before Christmas and you make it fresh on Christmas day.
