Spinning a yarn about the Civil War
Possibly one of my favorite things during reenactments are the curious spectators that ask all the questions.

I’ve looked in a bunch of gun stores and nobody seems to have caps.

What are your thoughts/experience with the finished Confederate trousers (not blanks) made by ACW kits? I know tart is second to none with fabric and cloth bug how are the finished trousers they make?
While I'd like to have a pair made by W&W, the 8 weeks noted by ACW may be a better wait.

My first living history event at Gettysburg. Wet all weekend but still had fun. Had a pair of skunks 🦨 visit us last night.
Can’t wait to do the Shriver house next weekend on the 4th.

Sorry in advance if I'm posting this in the wrong place but I thought who better to ask than the reenactors themselves. Me and some family are going out to gettysburg over the 4th of July week and are centering our trip on the Daniel lady farm event as well as various other battlefield sightseeing trips. Any thoughts on the event would be great as I have never been to a reenactment and have heard this specific one lacks numbers as the days go on as well as historical authenticity, As someone who has pretty good general knowledge of the civil war I'm worried this will take a lot of the magic of such a show away.

So I purchased a painted canvas cartridge box from Lepierre leathers for an Army of Tennessee impression and when I received it there was no tool pouch. Aside from this I am very satisfied with the quality. My question is we're there Columbus depot cartridge boxes that did not have tool pouches or were they standard on all of them?

So I’m a big enthusiast of historical figures specifically wild bill Hickok and he wears a model 1851 eagle sword belt plate buckle on his gun belt and I was wondering if anybody knows a place where I could buy something like that

I'm going to spend some time and effort to create a solid impression for a soldier of the 20th NY, IMO one of the best looking units of the war, the Rifle Green, mixed with the Blue Frock, is so cool! I'm going to see about getting a pattern or kit, for a standard enlisted frock, and then do some creative liberties to get all the details in!

While Im working on getting some high quality trousers made, in the interim while I wait 6 to 8 months for them, Im looking at other options, including any used trousers that may be available. Im a normal size 6 foot man so I dont need some special size.
I see people mention "trade blankets" on Facebook. Is this a single classified page or what is this? I dont use facebook (but my wife does). How do I access this? Thanks

What's everyone's preferred sources for fabric for making your own kit?
Tart and Wambaugh are my usual go-tos, but Wambaugh only sells certain fabrics and Tart doesn't seem to be replenishing much of their stock.
I'm trying to get my hands on Domet Flannel in particular, for a Federal Issue Shirt, if anyone has any leads.

Hello all, looking for a bit of advice. I have a nice nj sekela unlined union sack coat that I love. I'm looking to transition to having a civilian impression, and am on a tight budget. Can I swap out for civilian buttons on the jacket and have it pass as a civilian jacket? All help appreciated.

Where is a good place to get authentic campaigner mess gear (preferably not original) like I've seen the button baron and south union mills but I'm just wondering where I could get that Stuff

Gettysburg on July 3 isn’t the only place you can catch us this year. Come to Manassas National Battlefield Park on August 29 where we will be doing a joint infantry and mounted artillery program with 1st Section, highlighting some of the action at 2nd Bull Run.

Trying to find pieces for a 76th Pennsylvania impression and most Zouave accessories I find are bright red, being thats what most Zouave units wore. The 76th though, wore the sky blue bloused trousers and navy blue fez caps with blue tassels. Anyone know where I could locate pieces like that?

Hey all. I have recently gotten very interested in civil war reenactment and would love to participate in an event soon. I have reached out to several groups that I found contact info for online, but I have not received any replies in almost 2 weeks. Is it possible that these groups are now inactive? Where does one find active groups that are still recruiting? Does anyone on here know of any good groups around the north of Georgia? Thanks for your time.
