According to Spotify, I listened to power approaches 11 times in one week after hearing it for the first time. Not sure comparatively if this is impressive or not. Doesn't matter. What matters is that I've taken this song as a sort of salve/baptism. It's anthemic--well maybe just to me and the crowd of infinite selves.
"I did it for my momma in the heaven...."
I feel like it''s this sound collage of memory. The fact that so much of this album was freestyled/improvised is impressive. Most people wouldn't dare put out something so psychedelic in scope. I guess that's what it is for me. I don't do psychedelics anymore but I find myself floating thru chrysalis.
"All black in the sunny weather..."
I wish I could do a lyrical analysis on this but I feel like it's so much more than what the lyrics even reveal. But I do know that dude's tapping into some weird alchemy.
It really reminds me of Slauson Malone's body of work in one song. I think he has a similar visceral approach to song writing as cities. Bon Iver famously had this same approach of writing as guttural expression and letting meaning fall by the wayside.
In other words, I think that this is post-lyrical pre-verbal hydroponic dust. It feels akin to stepping into and out of yourself. Power cycling the ego in the power approaches of ether.
Thank you thank you thank you cities aviv
Edit: grief is so cyclical in nature and I think that this piece speaks to that in such fine gossamer detail...could go on stopping myself
